There are three ways for a high school student to stay on track as those businesses keep on growing and they are how to pay bills, taxes, and insurance. Those are the three important ways to survive after high school. Majority of our parents are from the baby boomer generation didn’t know how to pay bills. Now days bills are paid electronically or through checks. This generation wont struggle as our parents did if we learn how to pay our bills the new way. The second important factor, is to know how to file taxes. No one likes his/her money dedicated from their paychecks. Same as paying bills, lots of our parents didn’t know how to fie taxes, therefore, they give it to someone who knows and they charge them money. However, if we learn how to file our own taxes, we won’t rely on someone else. We all need insurance to survive. Weather it is car insurance, health insurance, or property insurance, we need at least one to survive. The Lack of health insurance coverage is most often the result of a combination of things. These factors include employment status, financial conditions and even health problems.(Feldman 2012) These three things can been seen as reasons why coverage can be difficult to obtain. In most states, insurers may deny applicants for coverage completely. At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
Public education could have done a better job promoting what happens at 17 or 18 when graduating. We were briefly advised to go to college or go into the workforce to become employees. As students, we had been told college makes you more money, and that we were all encouraged to apply. I doubted the majority of students took the responsibility to look at costs of college, tuition, and housing and understand the loans and how long it would take to pay them off. It felt that we hadn’t been taught the value of money, only that we needed to make a lot of it. I had been fortunate for working in a bank my high school years that I had understood more than others about loans, rates, mortgages, and credit cards. The financial aspect of life after high school was rarely brought
As I thought of this article, many of the issues I have faced as a single Hmong woman in her mid-twenties came to mind. Should I discuss the functional reasons why marriage is so important in the Hmong culture, especially for women? Or do I talk about the lack of eligible, older Hmong men? Better yet, should I complain about the attempts by my relatives to find me a good husband as if it were an unfortunate circumstance that I was single instead of a conscious choice? Thinking it over, though, I decided that all those questions boiled down to one fundamental truth – the Hmong community is still trying to learn how to treat the increasing number of Hmong women who, like me, are making the choice to stay single in their mid-twenties.
