College is where you put your knowledge from high school to the test. They expect you to know what they are talking about or have some type of knowledge of it. Professors cannot one-on-one help you because time is limited and there is too many to help. So colleges created tutorials is the place to which you go if you need help on you school work. Tutors can also help you in these sessions and all you have to do is explain to them exactly what you need help on. They will go through a process where they want you to tell them everything that you know and why don’t you understand the concept. From there they will set up a plan to where they can help you with that concept. For one of my philology classes I could not understand the concept cognition from my professor. It was difficult for me to grasp the concept so I found time from work, home, and school to attend a tutorial. Once I signed up for a session, I sat with a young adult who look as if they could be a professor with their perfectly done black starched wide leg slacks, a crisp white button down shirt that was bright and clean, and clean black pointed heels . She was very polished with her hair pulled from her bare natural face with a hint of natural makeup into a nice bun at the nap of her hair. She screamed professional and ready to work. In the session she was nice and determined to help me understand my philology work. She went through strategies and …show more content…

Making sure that you turn in your work when you are supposed because the professor will not reminding you. Your environment is much larger than a regular high school classroom. Responsibility, hard work, self-discipline, note-taking skills, test-taking, and time-management skills will need to be a key characteristic needed in
It is the American dream to get out of high school and to start working towards your degree, right? Perusing a degree in the United States is not as dream like for some students. Many factors such as the learning environment, where you come from, and the knowledge and will power can shape how the higher education experience can go. While not all of these factors necessarily point to a rough or tough college experience, but also show that we as a nation could help our students be more educated and prepared to pursue and finish a degree. All students should be given equal opportunity and tools to become a successful member of society.
Many parents tend to question if they or their child is ready for early college. They fear their child isn’t mentally or emotionally focused to go off to college by themselves. What they don’t realize is students going to college early bring about better jobs, connections, opportunities, and a better experience.
A $60 billion plan is being invested by Barack Obama for two free years of community colleges for American citizens in order to help with financial need. That means Obama is trying to get community colleges to be free to students that need extra support as they are living or growing up in an unstable house. Yet, community colleges being free would cause problems for many students that do not belong there. Money then would be given to all the students that are attending a community college, even though some of the students do not need extra support, nor want to be there in the first place. By doing research, it shows that community colleges are affordable to those that put forth an effort and universities would be shied away due to the price
Preparing for College after graduating from high school is considered to be as one of the most thought by students. Even so, most students nowadays are uncertain whether attending college will be a good advantage for them. Some believe that it is a waste of time and money, but most people consider it as a reason to thrive in life. Unlike High school, College is certainly different because it determines your future and should be taken more earnestly by the students. College education is a worth of cost because it basically provides students with great benefits, which can be a good help in shaping their future goals.
First of all, many high school graduates cannot handle college. Isabel V. Sawhill and Stephanie Owen describe college as a place, “one can obtain a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree”. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. For example, if a student is enrolled in four college courses and is in class a minimum of four hours the student should spend at least four to six hours of studying. This may be extremely agitating and stressful to a student that is not good at studying. The new college student may realize that the schoolwork is too much for him to handle and instead drop out. In Pharinet’s blog post, Is College for Everyone? He states that “…it is estimated that in the U.S., approximately 50% of students who begin college never graduate. There exist students who are not yet ready for the academic and financial challenges of college. There exist students who do not have the desire for college or learning.” This statement is important because if 50% of students that begin college never gradua...
It's known that college it will not be easy and things will not be handed to you. In reality, your education will determine how far you allow your american dream to take you. Everyones dream is different and furthering their education may not be in their cards. I will say that having a long term of schooling does not necessarily terminate you from being great, but it would help tremendously. America still provides access to the American Dream through education because for the most part, you have student loans and scholarships.
It is 2am and you wish you had more time for sleeping. You have had a long day between school and work. Probably tired and overwhelm of all the homework that you have to turn in this week. Sometimes you may ask your self the question, “Is it worth the effort I am making to go to college?” I am sure that some of you have had those days were you wish you can stay at home watching TV, playing video games, sleeping, and not worrying about studying for a test. How many of you have felt this way at least once this semester? Turn around, as you can see you are not the only person that feels the same way. However, I will like to tell you the reasons why you should graduate from college. Today, I will talk about the knowledge you get from going
Expectations are another difference between high school and college. Students are expected by society to graduate from high school, therefore stripping the need for knowledge and replacing it with a need for a diploma. In high school, one is expected to show up on time and is punished if they do not. Some high schools have a room called sweep, or something of that matter, for students that are unable to make it on time and are forced to sit in a chair and stare at a wall. Nevertheless, college expectations are not as strict. In college, students are not expected to graduate, but instead are projected to educate and better themselves with or without a diploma. The reward is a career, and doing what they desire in life.
A college education is necessary today in society. Students can focus on their academics and try to get a high score. The cost of education for each student has become more difficult to afford. Thus, many students and teachers wonder if free college tuition must be granted. Free education must be responsible and funded by the U.S. government because it will help students focus on their studies, and encourage them to work harder in school. Even thought many people think that education must be free, it is very important for many reasons such as the economy, quality of education, and value of a college degree.
Before going to college we first have to go to high school and get a diploma or GED. Whether it be homework, classes, or how much trust is given to them, many people have different experiences in high school. The time
It may be a thrilling ride at first for some, but once one has really experienced the college life; one will wish upon a star to be a part of high school all over again. Many of the rules and basics of college are similar to college; they are just a little more advanced. College is very expensive and voluntary; although one can receive scholarships and have a free ride to attend any college of their choice. During the time at college, one learns a lot of responsibility from completing work on time to real-life situations. College classes may vary from small to large depending on the course class and whether one attends a community college or university; and one will most likely not take classes with his or her peers that came along to attend the same college. Instructors will tell the students or give a syllabus for everything that is required throughout that whole semester for a student to pass on to the next year or class, and it is up to the responsibility to keep a track on the due dates for the course’s work. While high school tells one what courses one will take, college is a place where courses are took upon what one will like to pursue their career in. Classes in college may only meet once or twice a week, time varying from thirty minutes to even three hours. Attendance in college is left upon the student. No one is going to call and check to see where one is at, that is
Being a teenager isn’t easy. You have a lot of things on your mind, a lot of things to worry about, a lot of things to carry and when I mean carry, I mean both physically and mentally. During the 17 years of my life that I have lived so far, I believe that I have never carried this much before. Part of it I think is because it’s senior year. Actually I think that 's the biggest reason why I feel so much pressure on my shoulders. I’m pretty sure that everyone can agree on this, especially if you’ve been through it before. I’m not talking to the adults of course because I know your lives are difficult and what not, but I’m mostly talking to the teens who are currently going through the same stage of life that I’m in right now. Now I’m not saying my life is difficult in any means because I know that I
Schools can give responsibility to students but never without a cost. Students should have to chance to prove their worth to schools and show how responsible they can be as adults. When students go to college classes as high schoolers they sometimes tend to have more free time during those times. If a child has enough responsibility to take those classes they should have enough to leave school and be trusted to come back to school after their free time is over. Although leaving school early is not something that is smiled upon it should be because some students are ahead and can work their schedule to allow extra time because of hard work in early years.
School plays an important role in our lives. Many people will spend more than fifteen years at school in order to get the qualifications that are required to work in a specific field. Those years are broken down into several levels, some of them being more enjoyable than others. Two very important levels that people go through are high school and college. Even though some think that these levels are almost the same, there are significant differences between them. The cost of high school is not the same as the cost of college. Also, some differences apply from an academic point of view. Typically, the social environment also differs from high school to college, which can be related to the question of freedom versus responsibility.
While many people attend and graduate high school, many of them won’t experience the same in college. In a lot of instances, a high school diploma can be more beneficial than a college diploma. College diplomas cost a lot more money and takes up extra amounts of your time. This is the reason students and others, believe college is a waste of time, it’s a trap to get the new working class in debt, and isn’t anything you can’t live without. Unlike high school there isn’t as much pressure placed on students, there won’t be any debt waiting on them, and high school can more beneficial depending on what your trying to accomplish. High School can be necessary for almost everyone while college can be optional for some.
