I feel very fortunate to have found my supervisor. She is so knowledgeable and generous with her knowledge. In our reading this week I believe my supervisor would be defined as expressive (Russell-Chapin, 2016). She is easy to talk to and she likes to hear about all of my concerns, including logistical issues. After the second week, she started to encourage me to come up with my own solutions. She no longer provided me with readings and long dialogues of what to do next, instead she would ask me what I thought. I truly enjoy these conversations and she guides me on a path to follow my own instincts and to trust my judgment. At the beginning, I asked a lot of questions and almost wrote down the entire session, word for word. I can
The intention of this written essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my views on reflection and the issues surrounding reflective practice. It is based on nursing skills that I used during my practice placement, most importantly reflecting on the professional value of privacy and dignity.
...r me to express how I am doing. The best way to utilize supervision is to know how to debrief effectively. Knowing what is triggering, what is stressful, and if the coping techniques are working, are important things to discuss during supervision. Utilizing colleagues within the agency is also a great support system. Even if you are not able to discuss the case, coworkers can still understand and help debrief feelings related to a case.
In regards to supervision, Miss Servo explained her cross-cultural relationship with her African American supervisor and her views on their affiliation. It was explained that her supervisor, the assistant principal, observes two separate class sessions within an academic quarter and provides constructive criticism; in addition to, having two meetings a year to describe progress and areas of improvement. The interviewee elucidated that she feels that she can be open with her supervisor, but with hesitation. Miss Servo explains that her supervisor does not do observations on a timely basis and sometimes will not receive feedback until weeks after being observed. Continually, she feels that her supervisor acts lost and that she will pick out
Supervisors showed independence and increased confidence in themselves and their work. With their newly gained confidence supervisors are more assertive and initiated both tasks and projects. Bosses one, two, three and four all agree that their supervisors are applying what they learned from the classes. For example, boss four can attest to their supervisors “enhance their problem solving skills giving them the tools and resources to effectively problem solve.” Similarly, boss five recognized that as a result of the New Supervisor Series their supervisor took on extra duties and is more confident working independently. The New Supervisor Series placed emphasis on human resources policies and procedures helping to sharpen the supervisor’s knowledge and focus attention on best practices. In their responses, the bosses frequently commented on the supervisor’s awareness to different policies. Comments relating to Mason policies similarly stated, “better understanding of these policies”, “knowing best practices” and “understanding the process.” Learning and understanding the A-Z hiring process was the most
First, the supervisor needs to take on a strict supervisor role so that he can better promote the personal growth of James within the profession and help his clients. After this has been achieved, James will have a better chance at being able to grow and help his clients as he will have to do the same with the husband of the couple he is counseling.

Once an issue or problem officer is identified, the supervisor must take a proactive approach to resolve the problem. The supervisor, if appropriate, could start with alternatives to discipline. These alternatives most often come in the form of coaching or informal counseling/training. According to Laurence Miller, "The difference between coaching and counseling lies in their focus and emphasis. Coaching deals directly with identifying and correcting specific problematic behaviors." (Miller, 2006) Counseling, on the other hand, is more of a collaborative approach where the supervisor and employee resolve the issue together.
The term reflection means the examination of personal thoughts and actions. For nurses this means focusing on how they interact with their colleagues and with the environment to obtain a clearer picture of their own behaviour. This means it is a process in which a nurse can better understand themselves in order to be able to build on existing strengths and take appropriate future action (Somerville, 2004). Reflection is a way to bring your own intuition along with empirical knowledge together. Reflective practice in nursing is guided by models of reflection. Reflective practice model serves as a framework within which nursing or other management professions can work. Reflective practice model is also a structural framework or learning model that serves the purposes of a profession and is particularly applicable to health related professions. Reflective practice enables practitioners to learn to value themselves as significant people with values and feelings that are important factors in giving care. Whilst reflective practice allows the nurse to recognise the value of their experiences, they may also need support to work through a difficult situation. This is where reflection aids nurses in dealing with these challenging experiences (Johns, 1995). Reflection on experience offers nurses the opportunity to reflect on caring in practice in ways that its nature can be understood, where the skills necessary for effective caring can be developed and most significantly, where the values of caring for people can be highlighted, both to the individual nurse and the world in general (Johns 1996)
To diagnose my learning needs I must be honest and realistic about myself. The strengths I have as a leader consists of personal mastery and building a shared vision. Personal mastery is the discipline of continually clarifying and deepening our personal vision, of focusing our energies, of developing patience, and of seeing reality objectively (Senge, 2006). I have always strived to improve myself so that I can excel in every task that I set out to do. There ...
I start my writing process with a list of possible topics to research. Once I have chosen a topic, I tend to do some initial research to get ideas for subtopics within the paper. I then start my online document and work on my introduction and, more importantly, my thesis or hook statement. I also add a brief explanation of the topic of each paragraph and proceed to look for evidence such as direct quotes to support the body of my paper. After I have found my evidence, I am able to develop my ideas around it. Usually, if I feel that the paragraph does not fully support my argument or topic, I add in more evidence and continue to build the section. While working on my body paragraphs, I also tend to go back to my introduction
When considering how to promote dialogue during our class facilitation, my goal was to encourage myself and my classmates to draw connections from our case study articles to the overarching themes of the week. In order to be an effective action researcher you need to be able to understand the main idea from a research article, but unless you are aware of the varying theoretical worldviews and their implications on an researcher’s methodology, ethics, and area of focus, you risk lacking full comprehension of the author’s perspectives and the perspectives of the research project’s participants and other stakeholders. Due to the fact that a major aspect of this class, as well as future action research, is developing an in-depth understanding of research articles, this activity seemed valuable for both ourselves and our classmates.
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to have an empathic relationship with my client, and gathering story and find the strength of my client is part of getting to know my client. This time I had set a realistic goal that my client can work toward without feeling that he is not in control of making the decision. The next is stage restoring finding what is not working now and trying to find an alternative that will work then take the action of letting the client go or
As a master tutor for Art I I have had to interact with many different type of students and artist. I had many successes as well as areas of improvement which I intend to solve. It has been my first year being a master tutor for an art class and I find it is much different than any other subject. In core classes it is easier to provide help to every student because the student knows that there are certain rules you must obey whereas in art, you are free to express yourself. I have learned very much from my first semester and I intend to improve ten fold in hopes of helping my fellow alumni as well as myself.
...rks. In a word, the MA experience was considered to be a bridge that combines the student learning with working skills, it would be of great help for my future career.
Throughout this term, my fellow classmates and I have had a chance to participate in a group project with two or three of our peers. The general topic was a vivid problem in a industry. Our class had a very wide and diverse sets of topics: from Styrofoam, to industrial hacking, to corruption in an influential international organization like FIFA, and so many more. Our group decided to develop a project named “Outsourcing and the price we pay for brands”. The name itselves is somewhat self-explanatory, however the problem is so much more complicated and interesting. In this paper, many struggles and concerns, of the group and of my my own, will be unfolded as I reflect the progress of this project.
