I read this book in 5th grade and still remember it as if I read the book yesterday. Little did I know, back then… that this was the first small step to what lead to my inspiration in choosing a future career. The motivation Peg received from Dr. Bevis was similar to that I received from Dr. Wayne, my pediatrician, when I would get sick and visit his office.
7th grade brought opportunity to discover more about medicine. Mrs. Barrett asked us to research an interesting careers. I picked pediatrics. I chose to tap into a first-hand experience by sitting down with Dr. Wayne. Every patient to him was like solving a Scooby Doo mystery. A surprised Dr. Paul Bowman, Chairman of the Pediatrics department decided to call my bluff and invited me for an interview. After visiting with me and viewing my portfolio, he immediately put me under the directive of Professor Basha who was conducting research on pediatric brain cancer. I really got a new enlightened appreciation of the intensive research I was working alongside a team of eight other graduate student researchers on Ewing’s sarcoma and Medulloblastoma.The diligent work helped build my attention to detail as micro-pipetting was minute work. Protein extraction was another crucial task I became skilled at. This was very exciting because it was the center of all research as we were dealing with the actual cancer cells and testing them against various chemotherapy
What began as tutoring sessions designed for a child to learn how to solve fractions evolved into the moment that forever parallels my revelation to become a doctor. When I first met Abby, she hid behind her mother and struggled to even count. After this disclosure, Abby began talking to me, her grades improved, and she accumulated several friends. I soon realized that the greatest lesson I taught her was not cross multiplication, but the belief that someone understood her and that she mattered. Additionally, she bestowed me the moment that began my journey to become a doctor. I just had yet to realize it.
Many years ago there was a small boy who was woken by a loud scream. Terrified, he ran from his room to find his mother unconscious on the floor. His little sister was screaming as he pulled his mom onto her back in desperation. In reality, he didn’t know what to do to save her and his helplessness was due to his lack of knowledge. She passed away that night. That boy was me. Our past defines us no matter how we protest; it can either pull you down into failure or lift you up towards success. From then on, I was drawn to medical sciences and used that helplessness to motivate my education.
Screech!!! The bus’ brakes scream upon stopping. I look up to see buildings that look like stone and marbled statuses. The buildings stood tall with tan shiny finishes. The grass was too green to be true and the atmosphere felt like home to me. I had embarked upon a journey that I never thought would be. I was here, here at Emory School of Medicine. Numerous of people walking around with white doctor coats, teal scrubs, and soft colorful crocs. I was a part of an elite group of about thirty high school students, who would soon be a part of Emory’s School of Medicine mentoring program, called Emory School of Medicine Pipeline Program. This program introduced intercity students, such as myself, to the world of medicine. This inspired students to become future medical doctors, nurses, and other medical professions. This program greatly influenced my interest for medicine.

Ever since I was a little girl, my motivation to pursue a career in the medical field was evident. While other children my age watched Cartoon Network, I found more value in shows like ‘Trauma: Life in the ER’ and ‘A Baby Story.’ It wasn’t until high school that I decided I would become a nurse, specifically. I cannot say that I had a revelation or a particular experience that swayed my decision. However, ever since I began pursuing the career of nursing, I discover each and every subsequent day that it is what I was put on this earth to do.
Every little kid has high expectations for what they want to be when they grow up. Some dream of becoming president of the United States of America, or becoming an Astronaut, a lot of little kid ’s say that they want to be a Doctor. What kids do not understand is that there are many types of doctors, like an orthopedic surgeon, who works with feet, or an oral surgeon, who works with the mouth. Another similarity to a doctor is a nurse practitioner.

Since I was a child, I have always known I wanted to become a doctor, but I did not know what kind of doctor I wanted to become. Did I want to become a doctor to earn a lot of money and live a prosperous life, be respected in society, or so that I could simply help other people? The answer came to me not too long ago while I was volunteering at the Methodist Richardson Hospital. During my time in the children’s ward reading books with these children or even just talking to them, I felt a sense of fulfillment. Seeing these children with life threatening diseases, such as cancer, smiling happily as if nothing were wrong, living their lives as if they were not stuck in hospital beds made me just love them and their positive attitudes. Working with these children helped me realize that whatever I did in life would be focused around children such as them. The volunteer work I committed to at this hospital helped me realize the career field I wanted to go into, and it also taught me how important it is to keep the new generations yet to come healthy, and a massive risk factor that would risk the health of children is childhood obesity.
I will talk about the profession pediatricians, because it is a profession that it interesting. It is said that children is a joy to work with, and hopefully being a pediatricians is as much fun as it seems. In this paper, I will look into how to become one, what their works tasks are, and the salary, and how it is to be a pediatrician.
Many people in this world want to make a difference in life. However, most people do not want to put in all the effort that it takes to do so. The job of a pediatrician is life-changing to many. Unfortunately, it takes drive and effort that many people do not have, to become a pediatrician. A pediatrician’s job is a highly-skilled and interesting job because he or she has the privilege to deal with and help as many children as possible.
A documentary Doctors ' Diaries produced real-life stories of seven first-year medical students from Harvard University. The film shows emotions and mental stress that goes through medical students while becoming a doctor and how it affects them. Medical students choose medicine or pre-med as a career to help save people, but the challenges interns interfere with are their personal life and education. At first, the interns were excited about their future and then over time they became tired and damage in certain ways; Tom Tarter was one of the interns that had to go through their medical education, internship, and family life at 21 years old.
On stage, I anticipated third place, but was once again stunned when I placed second. This whole experience was life changing. Working for the National FFA Convention, I developed a work ethic to stick to something, and to do my best, even if it seems impossible. I also gained communication skills, and the ability to work outside my comfort zone. Even now it is hard for me to interact with others, but this accomplishment taught me that I can do hard things and I can communicate effectively. I learned how to perform research and express my findings. This experience was also very valuable for it directed me to my career path. It opened up doors as to my abilities, and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams without fear. It taught me that failures happen, but enduring effort will turn failure into success. In my interviews, I learned that complete honesty is far better than false cover-ups. I became the person I am now because I was blessed with the experience. This project for some may be seen as a great award, but for me it's an invaluable occurrence which had more life skills and experience than a piece of paper can ever
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.
