Many people in this world want to make a difference in life. However, most people do not want to put in all the effort that it takes to do so. The job of a pediatrician is life-changing to many. Unfortunately, it takes drive and effort that many people do not have, to become a pediatrician. A pediatrician’s job is a highly-skilled and interesting job because he or she has the privilege to deal with and help as many children as possible. What is a pediatrician? Pediatricians are doctors who specialize and focus in caring for babies to young adults (Career Cruising). They deal with childhood diseases and the care of infants with health and sickness (Elberts). The typical upper age limit of patients is from age twelve to age twenty-one (NetMed Pediatrics). They have to treat their patients as if he or she were going to change the world. Pediatricians complete many tasks in a day’s time. They perform physical exams and order tests that will diagnose diseases and injuries that have occurred. They advise surgery and medications and may also help patients through puberty and family problems (Career Cruising). It is their responsibility to make sure the patients are not only healthy, but also safe and happy. Some pediatricians communicate with social workers, family members, and health care workers to understand the entire situation as best as they can (Career Cruising). If the patient seems to have more personal problems, pediatricians have the opportunity to send them to other doctors like a psychiatrist for treatment. There are few jobs in today’s world that are essential to our society and being a nurse is one of them. Diane Marks Nurse Clinician of Pediatric Allergy at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg Manitoba granted me the privilege of sitting down to discuss her career . Through this interview I was able to gain perspective on how being a pediatric nurse encompasses more than what is written in the job description. It is more than just needles and antibiotics, but many times it means being a mother, a sister, a friend, a councillor, and many other roles in the patient’s life.
Kids aren’t like adults, their bodies are growing and changing constantly and require specific knowledge to understand. I find it interesting learning about children’s mindsets and how their bodies are different from adults. I have always had a passion for working with kids and anytime that I have gotten an opportunity to be around kids and working with them I take it. I love being able to help kids feel better and to see them develop physically and mentally throughout time. Seeing a kids’ reaction to learning something new or feeling better is a highlight to my day which is why I chose to pursue my career in pediatrics as a pediatric nurse.
Every little kid has high expectations for what they want to be when they grow up. Some dream of becoming president of the United States of America, or becoming an Astronaut, a lot of little kid ’s say that they want to be a Doctor. What kids do not understand is that there are many types of doctors, like an orthopedic surgeon, who works with feet, or an oral surgeon, who works with the mouth. Another similarity to a doctor is a nurse practitioner.
Children get injured or sick every day, and it doesn’t matter whether the child goes to a doctor or a pediatrician they are still tended to by a pediatric nurse. A pediatric nurse has to have many qualities. They also have to take many different classes. A pediatric nurse’s pay can vary from location to location depending on where they are working. Pediatric nurses must endure many different things to make it into this particular work field, and have many different qualities.
After high school people go to college. College is the step where they will figure out their life-long job. I’ve always have wanted to go into the medical field, but didn’t know what I wanted to do in it. I decided I would like to to be a pediatric oncologist. A pediatric oncologist is a physician that specializes in pediatrics. Pediatric oncologists receive further training in medical oncology. Pediatric oncologists help kids who are fighting cancer.
Every kid thinks they know what they want to be when they grow up. It changes over the years though. When I was around seven years old I wanted to be a pop star. This dream was based on a disney channel show called hannah montana, about a teen girl who lives a double life as a pop star. When I was around ten years old I wanted to be an actor on a sit com. Then I discovered basketball. I started playing all the time. I had “hoop dreams” as one would say. I wanted to be a WNBA player. That's what I said when anybody asked. By 9th grade reality caught up to me and I lost touch of that dream. Being a WNBA player would be almost impossible for me. So would playing basketball in college, but I still want to pursue it. I realized I was way behind in terms of basketball skills compared to other girls in the 2018 class. I adopted a love for biology and math. Those tie into what my real dream is.
Although more than ten years can pass prior to the moment one first calls oneself a pediatrician, the hard work and dedication pays off when one saves the first life a helpless child. Throughout the long process of applying for school after school, obtaining scholarship after scholarship, and proving one’s medical skill with each and every exam, one must feel true bliss when grasping the newly received medical license in one’s hands. A career in pediatrics will allow one to save the lives of young people who haven’t yet truly lived.

From treating kids to reassuring anxious parents, I have found all aspects of pediatric speciality interesting. During my time with 'shaishav organization ' and ‘Smile foundation’ gave me a strong grounding in many of the roles and responsibilities of pediatrician and has definitely been a life altering experience. Another good aspect of this job is that they only focus on the health of children rather than all of the age groups. An adult and a child are so different they are nearly two different species. If a child is brought to a doctor who specializes in all age groups, the child would not be getting the same kind of attention that he or she would be getting, compared to that from a doctor who specializes only in children.
