Every little kid has high exceptions for what they want to be when they grow up. Some dream of becoming president of the United States of America, or becoming an Astronaut, a lot of little kid’s say that they want to be a Doctor. What kids do not understand is that there are many types of doctors, like an orthopedic surgeon, they work with feet, or an oral surgeon, who work with the mouth. Another similarity to a doctor is a nurse practitioner. They do many of the same tasks, like performing minor surges, fixing broken bones, or simply giving a routine check up. Becoming a nurse practitioner takes many years of schooling, good grades, a lot of time and dedication, and money. Many nurse practitioners specialize in different fields. One might specialize in becoming a Geriatric nurse practitioner. A geriatric nurse will design workout programs for recovering patients, and might also act as a counselor to elderly patients. Another field that someone could go into would to become an oncology nurse practitioner. An oncology nurse usually works with the cancer patients. They conduct checkups, and record the process of the patient. A psychiatric nurse practitioner is a popular field that a nurse might go into. Psychiatric nurse practitioners tend to hold a higher level of education, like a PhD. They act as a therapist to troubled patients, and can also prescribe appropriate medication. I plan to pursue a career in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. This career take many steps to complete. But it is different routes you can take and different programs you can enroll in for this profession. Family Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medication and diagnose patients and give treatment. They can work either in hospitals and or clinics as a primary healthcare provider. They can also order specific x-rays and test that need to be done for a patient. The nurse practitioners interact with less patients in a clinic than in a hospital. Np’s have privileges to prescribe medications in every state.
A Nurse practitioner is a licensed independent healthcare provider who practices in a variety of settings and provides nursing and medical services to individuals, families and groups in accordant with their practice specialties and state guidelines. The Typical things they do or the typical activities they do depend on what work category the Nurse Practitioner is in, Some order diagnostic testing, view results, while some act as a Primary Caregiver when a Doctor is not around or available, while others keep up with
The nursing shortage is divided into four different categories. The four categories are as follows; "willing nurse" shortage, funding or perceived funding shortage, shortage of understanding that nurses are needed to deliver care, and nurse education and empowerment shortages (What is the nursing shortage and why does it exist?., 18 October, 2007). To be able to repair this major problem, all four segments of shortages need to be addressed. The first nursing shortage, A "willing nurse" shortage, is the simple fact of not enough supply to fill the demand of nursing positions. This shortage occurs either because there are simply not enough nurses to fill the open positions, or because experienced nurses are opting out of nursing and the willingness to provide care due to the current occupational environment. The second nursing shortage is the funding or perceived funding shortage. This shortage is merely due to nurses not feeling as if they are being compensat...

Define Nursing Nursing is a knowledge-based profession within the health care sector that focuses on the overall care of individuals. According to The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), “defines nurse practitioners as registered nurses who have received graduate-level nursing education and clinical training, which enables them to provide a wide range of preventative and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. They deliver high-quality, cost effective care, often performing physical examinations, ordering tests, making diagnoses, and prescribing and managing medication and therapies”. Nurse Practitioners are able to specialize in a particular area, such as family and adult practice, pediatrics, and women’s health; and refer patients to other specialists when necessary. Some nurse practitioners work under the supervision of a physician while others run their own practices.
I want to be a nurse, specifically a nurse practitioner. I have always been fascinated with the medical field and see a bright future in it for me. I have the opportunity of meeting new people every day with a variety of personalities. There is always something new to discover in this field. A nurse practitioner's job is to be able to diagnose and treat illnesses. They also prescribe medicine and run physical exams. I am highly interested in pursuing the career of a nurse practitioner because the healthcare field is always in need for medical professionals, it pays well, and I am helping people at the same time.
A career in nursing is extremely important in today's society. Without nurses to assist doctors in the care of patients, the quality of patient care may not be the same. Nurses do not just serve a great role in our community, but they also are just as needed as a police officer patrolling the streets or a teacher in the classroom. Although it may seem very easy to become a nurse, one's desire must be very strong in order to to actually pursue a career in nursing. Pediatric nursing is not just a profession that one would desire, but is a profession that is widely needed.
There are several different paths aspiring nurses can take. From becoming an RN to Advanced Masters and Doctoral Degrees. The one being focused on here is a Practitioner. “Nurse Practitioners are one of the four classifications of Advanced Practice Nurses” (“Nurse Practitioners” Volume 4 593). If a career in Psychiatric Nursing is in your future; for high school you should have taken, or will take, mathematics courses, and sciences such as biology, chemistry, and physics (“Psychiatric Nurses” Volume 5 151). Once graduated from high school, you must have completed a four year college program, and have your Bachelors Degree, you are able to go for your nursing license. In order to receive this license you have to pass the National Examination. Once passed you can work as an RN (Registered Nurse). Then focus on psychology and go for your masters (“Nursing Education”). This is a difficult career that requires a lot of education and time put into it.
