Working towards proper communication all throughout a group can be very difficult. It takes a leader strength, confidence, and so many more important traits to maintain a successful group. Though the leader is the one who takes most responsibility, everyone in the group must put in the effort to have proper communication with one another. There are multiple factors that can inhibit successful group communication and prevent them from achieving an Egalitarian type of communication amongst the group members, which can drastically affect the outcome of what the group is trying to achieve. It is important for a group to facilitate healthy and egalitarian communication to ensure that they will be successful and achieve their final goals. To begin,
there are many different fixable factors that can attribute to unsuccessful group communication. Many of these issues may or may not be in one’s control. First, Communication Apprehension is typically one of the greatest issues that inhibits proper and successful communication in groups. Communication Apprehension is especially difficult because it has to do with group-members’ own personal feelings about sharing their opinions and ideas with groups. In the article Communication Apprehension: The Quiet Student in Your Classroom. ERIC Digest, the Hillary Taylor Holbrook writes, “Communication apprehension (CA) has been defined as an ‘individual level of fear or anxiety associated with either real or anticipated communication with another person or persons’ (McCroskey, 1977),” (Holbrook, 1987). Those who struggle with Communication Apprehension have a very difficult time participating in any sort of group work or activities because of their high levels of anxiety that are associated with communication. This can inhibit successful group communication because it can be a setback when group-members are asked to share their personal opinions or ideas. It is important for the group leader and remaining group members to take Communication Apprehension into consideration when communication in a group setting, and they should consistently remind all group members that they are working in a safe and positive environment. To add to this idea, successful group communication can also be inhibited by group-members’ sensitivity of cultural differences present in the group. When one is part of a group, they should be aware that it is possible for the present cultures of that group to be versatile and individually unique. However, there are many that do not realize this fact, and will sometimes even try to avoid groupwork to ensure that they do not have to deal with this type of personal conflict. In Communicating in Groups: Building Relationships for Group Effectiveness, Joann Keyton writes, “You cannot avoid groups. Regardless of your experiences with and feelings about groups, it is unlikely that you will be able to avoid participating in them,” (Keyton, 2). As Keyton states, it is almost impossible to avoid participating in groups. In order to ensure that group-members find comfort in the community that they belong to, it is important that a safe and positive environment is established by the leader and group-members. Whether this consists of ice-breakers, different social events, or other methods, it is essential for all group-members to get to know and understand each other. By doing so, there will be no conflict regarding sensitivity to cultural differences throughout the group, and they will be more successful in the end. All in all, managing a group and maintaining successful group communication can be difficult. Whether it is regarding issues in our control, such as sensitivity to cultural differences, or out of our control, such as Communication Apprehension, it is important that proper and fair communication habits are promoted throughout the group. Every leader and group-member should consistently provide a safe, fair, and loving environment to each other, so everyone can feel accepted and encouraged to put forth their best effort and to be themselves. Group work may be a difficult concept to grasp at times, but if everyone puts in the work and effort of creating a safe and accepting environment, they will achieve the most successful and egalitarian form of group communication.
Without communication, no one knows what is happening therefore creating chaos and an unsuitable environment to work in. I know that communication is, if not, the best quality a leader can possess through personal experience. I have been president of my FFA chapter, vice-president of many other clubs, and an order-following member of numerous clubs since I have been in high school. Through these organizations, I have come to notice that if there is no one talking to and communicating with each other, nothing will get done. Every leader in any organization needs to have the quality of being an above average communicator because I believe it is the best characteristic one

As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
The first chapter of “Working in Groups” focuses on group communication, the first aspect being the key elements of group communication (Engleberg and
Have you ever wondered what the line is between crazy or sane? Is there a way, a definitive test, that can tell for sure whether or not a person is crazy? If you take the time to study psychology and specifically the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, you are sure to find out that you can easily be diagnosed with some level and type of mental disorder. This line of questioning is what begins, in my opinion, one of the best TED talks I have viewed. In his speech, Answers to the Psychopath Test, writer and filmmaker Jon Ronson takes the listener on an amazing journey that explores the strange and maddening world of psychopathy.

If we were not able to communicate, we would not be able to interact with others; therefore we would most likely be unsuccessful in leading our lives to their full potential. There are two types of communication, which are verbal and non verbal.
For example, my group communicates quite clearly and effectively with one another, which has created more of a positive sense of equal interaction and bond between each member over the course.

There are many different benefits to having diverse dynamics within a team. Communication seems to be the key to making the dynamics of a team work. A team is very much an interpersonal relationship with many potential benefits as well as pitfalls. The dynamics can often cause conflict within that team which can negatively affect the team's performance. It is common for people on a team to try to ignore or bury problems due to a desire to not create a scene. This can be very destructive because the issues do not get resolved. There are some specific steps that can be taken to resolve that conflict. When it comes to resolving an issue, the methods of doing so can be as dynamic as the team itself.
Effective communication encompasses many concepts. For a leader to be effective, one must be able to build relationships between different parties. In order to build a good rapport, one must be able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of those involved, and within oneself. Acknowledging these differences will allow for a better collaboration between team members. A leader must also have the ability to put conflict resolution theories into practice. Allowing differing points of view may challenge the original idea and will make for a more thorough decision making process. Although this may seem counterproductive, it actually ensures the best possible outcome. One must be consistent in the message presented yet be flexible, approachable and maintain a positive attitude. Allowing for different perspectives to be heard will allow team members to feel valued. This flexibility helps to solidify the concept that everyone is in this together; thus establishing an environment where all team members can have a buy-in. Encouraging team members to voice opinions and give feedback produces an atmosphere of constructive give-and-take; a real t...
Based on the small group that I joined in communication class, I will talk about what is working well and what is getting in the way in our group. Then I will discuss about what I can do to improve the group and the things about group project if there is a chance for a start over again. At last, I am also going to talk about what I think that I learned is an important lesson in this semester.
Hello, First things first, I would like to welcome you all to this team. I know it can be nerve-wracking to start working on a new project but I would like for everyone to get to know one another so we can help each other transition into working as a team. It is very important for all of us to feel that we belong and that we are all here to accomplish the same task. It would be advantageous for us all to find some time that we can set aside to discuss the purpose of this team, the norms that are expected of us, the roles each of us will fulfill, and to establish short term and long term goals.

The intention of the discussion remained vague throughout out the meeting as there failure in the communication system. The group members did not seem prepared for the discussion. Based on the fact that as at 800 CST there were only two members of the team who had spoken of the issues that were relevant to the discussion, the group members were scantly prepared. It is clear that everyone did participate equally in the discussion.
