- The first video Strictly Come Sword Dancing – Stone Monkey is typical folk dance. It’s performed by 6 men which one of them is talking to the audience about the story of the dance. All the men are wearing the same folk outfit that is made out of black shorts, white shirts, red belts with yellow emblem, striped socks, and same shoes, which actually reminds me of some kind of tap shoes. As a prop all the man except the one who is talking are using special typo of sword. It’s not a typical sword because this one has a handle from both side so two man can hold it from both sides. The one man who is talking seem to have different type of sward with only one handle.
- The second video How to perform a Victorian-style Morris Dance – with the Hammersmith

The men were the one playing the bag pipes and creating the music while the woman were dancing to the music with swords as their props laid on the floor. All men and woman were wearing traditional Scottish kilts, stockings, and red and black jackets with hats for men and scarves for women.
- The fifth video Castle Walk – And excerpt from How to Dance Through time vol. 2 was very interesting to me. It looked like many different styles of dances put together. I really liked the energy of the dance and that it was performed by one man and one woman. The outfits of the dancers are interesting because it looks like a man is dancing with his maid. I am not sure if that’s how it should be, but I think it’s somehow refreshing.
- The sixth video Swing Time – Rogers and Astaire is one of my favorite video because I love old school movies. In this video there are two man and one woman. One of the man performe a dance with the woman while other man is watching. Woman is wearing dress and the mas has suit. I am not sure what color because it’s a black and white movie. They both use they shoes to tap in the rhythm, which is similar to a tap

I would disagree with the theorists that say that we now do most of our social dancing "on the internet" by watching videos, making our own version or tribute video and re-posting. Yes, I do believe that big part of that is true, but I do not believe that it’s most of the social dancing. What about dancing in clubs, dance schools and classes, flash mobs, dancing at the weddings, and more. As our textbooks states: “Communal Dances are an important way of transmitting culture to the next generation” and definitely agree with that. I am from different country which is different culture and people form my country have their own communal dances that are transmitting to the next
After watching the videos most made me feel same as in our book Bill T. Jones says, “Make something beautiful…Make something that comes honestly from you. Dare to fail.” That is exactly ho I felt after watching most of the videos. They were full of emotions and contact. The movements were very touchy feely and emotional with a story to tell; especially, the one called “What is contact improvisation?” I did reminded me of some of the previous choreographies we watched. I most of the videos there was a lots of ballet movements except the “Rennie Harris Puremovement │ Jacob 's Pillow Dance Festival 2009," which I actually enjoyed the most. I also did see some jazz, and musical, but not tap. If I look at previous video from Bob Fosse and his “Sweet Charity”, I don’t really see any connection between the videos we have see in this chapter.
... social dance. Many people in today’s society enjoy social; dancing. Chapter eleven dance concert, properly planning and establishing a dance concert is of the utmost importance. The partnership with the lighting designer usually takes priority over all other factors. One of the most important issues concerning customers has to do with mobility. The dancer must be able to move comfortably in the costume. The task of producing a dance concert is an overwhelming and tiring one. Chapter twelve dance in education and career in dance, many dance educators present the argument that teaching and learning dance as an art form is obviously absent from the American student education. There has always been and always will be people who have a love, desire, and passion to instruct and learn the art of dance, will ensure an important place for dance in higher education.
...ating with each other and these are the same values that are being passed on to this generation. The dancers in South-central Los Angeles, uses this form of art to express their feelings and it a form of communicating just like their ancestors did back in there days. At the same time, it allows them to have a much deeper connection with their roots.
The dance I want to talk about it “Diversions of Angles” by Martha Graham. First of all I liked the title of the dance and it had the most appealing color scheme and music to me. However, the dancing is the important part! The movements in the dance varied. The woman in white was less active than the woman in red. The dance looked like a story. The men in neutral colors moved around the woman a lot, they were very coordinated and looked very tall and upright. However, the woman in red and her male partner went closer to the ground much more. They were both much more fluid and they moved across each other in an romantic sensual way.

To begin with, many of the social dances that are popular today are come from dance instruction songs made relevant by popular culture. Dances such as the “Dougie” and the “wobble” have become popularized through the sharing of there accompanying music videos and songs. The music video for the song “Wobble Baby” by V.I.C has over twenty three million views on Youtube. The movement of the “wobble” is a slight lean while slightly bouncing the body up and down. I find the performance of dances at clubs and parties such as the “wobble” to be both embarrassing and entertaining. It was an interesting experience to watch my peers learn the social dances during our hip-hop class. Many of my peers appeared to be very uncomfortable while learning the
Dancing is something that the Jacksons are just naturally gifted at, not only because of how they execute it, but the way they can tell a story just from their movements. The dance moves in this music video reminded me of a fluid robot. When it comes to Michael Jackson’s legendary moonwalk, it truly embodies what I think of someone from the future. His dance moves resemble to me, what I would think a robot or alien-like lifeform would move like. His dancing is so animative and futuristic, but he completes each move with such ease to the human eye, but that if we were to try it we would fail
“Call and response” is also utilized, which is when the DJ and the dancers will communicate in order to maintain a certain hip hop flow, and to encourage audience enthusiasm. The moves, along with the music works together to emphasize the rapid rhythm breaks. The dancers perform moves that involve flips, upside down movement, and spinning, along with “drops” that were smooth transitions to “front swipes, back swipes, dips, and corkscrews”.” One dancer even performs a “chair freeze” which was originally one of the most popular break dancing moves, and is when the arms and upper body support the body while the legs and lower half of the body are free flowing (Forman & Neal, 2012, pg. 58). These moves require much momentum and balance, which according to popular b-boy Ken Swift, is an essential aspect to this hip hop movement (Forman & Neal, 2012, pg. 59). In both films, b-boying or breakdancing is a way to resolve some type of conflict or competition due to being able to “attack without mercy yet still see their opponents as distinct and valuable human beings” and avoid any unnecessary violence that already occurs in drastic rates within inner city neighborhoods (Chang, 2006, pg.
When VH1 got a panel of “music industry experts” together to decide on a list of the greatest music videos ever, it was Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” that was the video of choice. Close behind on the list were videos for songs such as Madonna’s “Vogue” and Jackson’s “Thriller.” It seems to me that there is a significant theme all of these videos share…DANCE!
The first social dance explored was ballroom dancing. Ballrooms were a place of courtship; therefore, these dances were always performed by a male, female couple. Traditional gender roles began the dance as the men always asked the women to dance. As the dance began, the bodies were transformed into vehicles to connect these opposite sex partners. However, societal rules applied to this dance because partners must be from within the appropriate class, the intentions proper, and the movements executed in a specific manner. The woman’s role was essentially to avoid a misstep of tripping on the man’s feet, since the male always led the dance.
Overall, I believe that STEPS Youth Dance company successfully delivered an entertaining piece that highlighted the moments of Fight and Flight in our lives using many different techniques such as props, colourful and dark lighting, symbolic costumes, choreography and entertaining music.
The opening sequence also has a connotation of power and masculinity through Dance, instead of physically fighting, although in the world of the film we are to believe they result to violence and being physical, during their routine neither gang actually lays a finger on each other, making the routine more
Folk dance is also a popular types of dance. Folk dance is a variety of dances that reflect a certain culture. There are many types of folk dance including aboriginal dance, clogging, irish dance and square dance. Folk dancing started in the 18th century, the steps were then passed through the generations.
