The present is the result of the choices we have made and the future will be of those we make. After my graduation in Computer Science Engineering from Amrita University, in a quest for gaining industrial exposure, I took up the role of ‘Associate Software Engineer’ at IP Infusion- a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced Ethernet and IP services. There I was fortunate enough to work with cutting-edge technologies. Right at the onset of my career, I was asked to manage a research project on my own, which though was challenging, I thoroughly enjoyed. Within 6 months, I was promoted to the role of ‘Software Engineer’ with additional responsibilities of meeting with the client executives and discussing their specific requirements. This exposure to technologies and responsibilities made me realize that there is a part of me which wants to do something which will benefit the whole society. I believed that there is a lot more I needed to learn so as to focus my energy towards this end and hence, I took up the decision to pursue higher studies. My passion towards digital technologies began early. It started as a fascination for computer games, evolved to a curiosity for networking and finally to an appreciation for computer security. And so when it came to deciding the stream for my graduation, the choice of doing it in Computer Science Engineering was obvious for me. Throughout my undergraduate programme I was introduced to a well-organized curriculum covering various aspects of Computer Science among which a few subjects caught my close attention. The field of Operating Systems acquainted me with a whole new array of ideas. To understand those concepts better, I worked with ‘Minix’ operating systems which ... ... middle of paper ... ...portunity, but also a great challenge in terms of security. The idea of making a commendable contribution to the computing world by helping protect the information has led me towards building an expertise in system programming and networks, which I believe are essential skills to being a security researcher. The EmEA scholarship would aid me in this endeavor by allowing me to take up the excellent Masters Programme in Information technology at Uppsala University. I aspire to take up courses such as the Secure Computer Systems by Bjorn Victor and work under the guidance of professors like Dr. Joachim Parrow, which would prepare me better for pursuing my Ph.D. Moreover, being in a top international university would broaden my horizons by providing a multicultural experience and contribute to my personal development by enhancing my leadership and interpersonal skills.
