Did your phone just ring? Or was that your computer notifying you of a new email? Since the Digital Revolution and the addition of digital electronics like the personal computer, software-based technology has always been an essential aspect of our lives. Something that would have taken up an entire classroom can now fit within the grasp of your hands thanks to the efforts of various computer scientists and engineers, making our lives much easier. My passion for both software and hardware behind it stems from having been fortunate enough to be introduced to it at a young age. What may have originally been a simple fondness for video games developed into a curiosity regarding the nuts and bolts of the computer and a dedication to improve them. Subsequently, I plan to pursue software engineering in the future. Software engineering encompasses various principles from both the computer science field and the computer engineering field to develop practical uses of software within hardware we use on a daily basis. With the passage of time, technology dependent on software has become increasingly prevalent. Software design and development is a field that requires various skills and abilities. Companies engaged in the development of software should provide an inclusive work environment where the different strengths of their employees are recognised, utilised and respected. Software development involves far more than programming skills. Personnel are required with strong communication, teamwork, attention to detail, creativity, design and problem-solving skills. Different personnel will possess these skills in varying proportions. It is the job of management to foster and encourage the development and enhancement of skills in the workplace.
With all the technology today, the Internet is still off-limits to certain people. Everyone does not own a computer and because of this, everyone is not computer literate. Mostly middle and upper class people have their own laptops, or computers, and are able to pay for Internet service. Other people, like student's who use their schools computers or people who go to libraries, are forced to use whatever equipment is available, which is, in most cases, not top of the line and sometimes may or may not have the Internet. Soon this world will be computer-based and if you do not have your own computer or at least access to one, you will be behind. The Internet is an important part of computers considering the many uses it offers.
In programming, computer engineers instruct computers how, to do their jobs or desired functions line by line. There are many forms of computer software engineers. There are computer applications software engineers who analyse user needs and designs and then build, maintain, or perfect specialized utility systems or applications already within the system. Computer applications engineers have a multitude of computer programming languages they have to use on a daily basis. Generally the favorite languages used are C, C++, and Java. The less popular languages that are used are Fortran and COBOL. Software engineers may also also develop packaged systems, systems software, or even create personalized applications. Computer systems software engineers are responsible for designing the maintenance and construction of a company's computer systems, while also planning the systems future growth. Computer systems software engineers analyse the needs of each specific department while working with a company and advise the company on which technical direction to follow. Computer systems software engineers often help set up the technical systems of the company within the departments. The computer systems software engineers will also sometimes set up the companies intranets systems. Specifically the ones that link the company's computer systems with the organization and make communications between departments run faster and smoother. Computer
I chose to pursue on being a computer hardware engineer because I like taking apart and building computers and I would like to be able to construct some components that would go into a computer. I am kind of fascinated on how much there is to know about computers to even buy parts yourself and build it. Later on, I will start to study on what computer hardware engineers really do on their jobs. I know they usually work in groups because the task computer hardware engineers have will usually be really hard to do alone. When I am in college, I will most likely get an internship to gain practical experience.
Engineers have the potential to turn dreams into reality, which is why I decided to major in Computer Engineering. I want to be a computer programmer to make new app, or be a hardware engineer to design new devices to serve the society.
Some said it maybe cliché to have your childhood experiences as your points to derive you to plan your future. Well for me it is never an ending possibilities to have a childhood experienced that will determine you to get what you really want. From an early age I have always been deeply interested in gaming. I was the only girl in the family that really into games and computer systems. I can always remember the feeling of wanting to know just how the games were developed and design, how the console and system works and what else they could do.
If nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computer and Information Technology have domineered since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood.
I am fully aware that yours curriculum requires that I summon all my resources and I aver that I have the necessary commitment, intelligence and stamina to look forward to do it all. I believe that my experience of working on various projects coupled with my professional working ethics will not let your expectations down. In the engineering education in general and especially in the software engineering education, we often hear that “someone who is interested in becoming a researcher should not be in a software engineering degree program; they should be in a computer science program”. However, we firmly believe that the research is an integral component of an engineer education and in the software engineering field there is a need for professional skills and talents in the emerging research fields specific and relevant to software engineering.
Then my interest in computing ultimately has not been restricted to the classroom and college life. It was when I visited my friend’s software company that builds essential components of a smartphone application for the government. Rightly so, just watching my friend working has given me a totally new perspective on how certain things function, and even how business operates in broader spectrum. I quickly was fascinated by the computer systems at his work place, which greatly sparked my interest in computer science.
