For my observation I went to the Starbucks in Belton right after school. While I was there I looked at what kind of people were there, and how their conversations differed. My studies showed how people can have completely different interests based solely on their age. I also paid special attention to the kinds of drinks that people ordered; along with how they spend their time while they are there. It was fairly cold that day which impacted what people ordered, and what they were wearing. I noticed that everyone was concerned with themselves rather than with the other people that were there. As I walked into the coffee shop I noticed that were not many open seats, so I sat in between two older woman and a group of 6 teenage girls. One of …show more content…
There was a mom and daughter, who were both wearing jackets and jeans, sitting at the table who both had hot drinks. They did not stay there for very long. The inside of the store was not busy, but the drive through on the other hand had a line wrapping around the building. I assume that people did not want to get out of their cars because of the temperature outside. About 30 minutes after I arrived at the Starbucks two girls who were 12 or 13 rode up on their bikes, which they left outside, then came into the store. Neither of the girls had jackets or anything warm on. I was kind of shocked by the fact that they were allowed to that because when I was that age my mom wouldn’t even let me walk down the street to go to my friends house let alone ride my bike down a busy street without a jacket. One of the girls had a shopping bag in her hand from Shoe Sensation, which is a shoe store right behind Starbucks, so they were going on a shopping spree. I noticed that when one of paid the barista she had a big bundle of money in her backpack. This also shocked me because I was lucky of I had $20 when I was 12 years
(At Starbucks, the employees who take orders and make coffee are known as Baristas). There was also a significant difference in demeanor of the Baristas in the morning. They seemed most focused in the earlier hours of the day, I also noticed that the baristas seem the most energetic during the morning rush. They get orders completed faster and do not talk amongst themselves like they do in the evenings. The Starbucks was the most crowded in the morning, the line of customers stretched to the door.
Or should I say something was missing? Besides three or four cars the parking lot was empty. I was in shock. Even we are closed the parking lot is more full than it was at that moment. As I parked made my way to the store entrance I could see some of my managers and fellow employees standing outside with signs. “Don’t Feed Corporate Greed” and “Market Basket Strong” were plastered all over the place. Walking into the store was kind of scary. It was a ghost town. There was no one at the checkout and only one customer service women in the courtesy booth. She looked at me smiled and said “It’s going to be a busy day” in an extremely sarcastic voice. I chuckled, smiled back, and proceeded to log myself in. My manager came inside and asked if I wanted to protest. I was skeptical at first because I wasn’t quite sure if he was kidding or not. He enthusiastically handed me a large blank piece of poster paper and a marker. “Write something but keep it appropriate” he said. “This is a peaceful protest Tommy and we want to keep it that
Many people start his or her day with a cup of coffee. Coffee franchisees are growing around the world with coffee being one of the most popular drinks. A Colombia franchisee Juan Valdez is a growing franchisee in the United States specializing in coffee.
My name is Ana Nicole Paz and I am a 16-year-old high school student. I read your memoir How Starbucks Saved My Life and can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed the read. Even after losing your job, house, marriage, money, and learning you had a brain tumor, I loved the fact that you took an otherwise negative situation and turned it into a positive life experience that would make you the happiest man you could have ever dreamed to be by accepting a job at Starbucks. I also appreciated that you did not hide any of your thoughts in your memoir, but were rather very straightforward, even with the prejudices you held, and were quick to learn that they were unwarranted to move forward from such ignorance.
Coffeehouses, and more specifically Starbucks, have increasingly become an essential part of many people’s daily life. So I was interested in how the culture within Starbucks is a reflection of natural human interaction. I chose to observe the environment and interaction of people within a suburban neighborhood Starbucks for one hour.
On Sunday, November 29 around 5:00 in the evening, I did a naturalistic observation in a grocery store. This observation was naturalistic because I observed the behavior of individuals of the grocery store going about their routine with no intervention (Feldman, 2014, pp. 32). There were many developmental stages from childhood, young, middle and late adulthood.
What they did not realize was that they were making both employees and the store’s other customers uncomfortable with their appearance by the comment from one of the cashiers “Oh Daddy, I feel so faint” (150). The narrator, Sammy, quickly gave each girl a nickname in his mind and calls them “Queenie and Plaid and Big Tall Goony-Goony”(150). “Queenie” lead the pack, showing the other two girls how to walk in the store, head held high, body straight. “She had talked the other two into coming in here with her, and now she was showing them how to do it, walk slow and hold yourself straight” (149). The other two girls appeared to be more uncomfortable walking around the store in just their swim suit. The leader, “Queenie” most likely enjoyed the attention she and her friends were receiving from the people in the store considering she came in with the straps of her suit down below her shoulders. When Lengel, the store manager, saw and confronted them, they got embarrassed and tried to tell Lengel that they are wearing decent clothing. The girls were no doubt more embarrassed about being confronted than they were about what they were wearing when even Sammy “began to feel sorry for them” (150). With the employees and other customers watching the encounter, the girls quickly left the store after they paid for the snack with hopefully a
One of my favorite places located along Fifth Avenue is Starbucks, a coffee shop offering many different types of coffees, teas, and snacks. I frequently find my way down to this coffee shop after school meetings, on weekends, or on days when I just ne...
Howard Shultz and the senior management at Starbucks have to decide how to react to the opportunities that are being made available because of their rapid growth. The decision for a strategic growth plan has to be made in the near future. This will prove to be key for Starbucks reaching their long-term goal of becoming the most recognized and respected brand of coffee in the world.
For example, I recognize people who came there most of the time with their uniforms like medical employees. In addition, a group of police officers came to the coffee shop to buy coffee. The officers are both male and female and they made conversation in group and they were laughing each other on the back side entrance. I saw few people who sit alone at the table and they are busy on their phone. I think, they were watching movies or just checking their emails. On the other side, more people sit in groups who are 2-4 people and discussing about their homework. There were many people who left the coffee shop when they couldn’t find a sitting. Additionally, there were many groups of people who stood together in the self-service area, in conversation about games with coffee in their hands.
Preliminary Starbucks – one of the fastest growing companies in the US and in the world - has built its position on the market by connecting with its customers, and creating a “third place” beside home and work, where people can relax and enjoy themselves. It was the motto of Starbucks’ owner Howard Schultz and, mostly thanks to his philosophy, the company has become the biggest coffee drink retailer in the world. However, within the new customer satisfaction report, there are shown some concerns, that the company has lost the connection with customers and it must be taken some steps to help Starbucks to go back on the right path regarding customer satisfaction. I will briefly summarize and examine issues facing Starbucks. Starting from there, I will pick the most important issue and study it from different positions.
Besides that, people in line were listening to music patiently waiting to order their meal. There was some nonverbal communication with customers lining up. There was no need to discuss where the line was because people just lined up behind the person in front of them ordering. In regards to checking out, people manly used card which can be represented as a symbol for money. It seems that with the students in the market as well as the general public of Americans, we have a mental map of reality of time.
The areas that they mostly try to figure out are areas romantic relationships and careers. These people are in search for a lifelong partner who have qualities that will suit them. They are searching for a job that will give them a sense of fullfilment. Many of the people of this age group have left home, but if not they are more independent of their parents. They also don't have the adult commitments like having a spouse and family, and having a career.
The same people who were at the sofa area were there. Expect the people who were getting coffee were different and not the same which it made it interesting to me. The employees working at that time were the same too, one thing that changed was the menu, it was in different fonts and colors with new drinks for the fall. Around 10am, the same people were coming in with their heavy book bags and
