St. Michael’s is a Catholic teaching and research hospital that was founded in 1892 by the Sisters of St. Joseph. While analyzing their website, I found that the content reflect and upholds their mission statement. Their Website is very transparent and includes information on their Mission and Vision, their Values, a Patient Declaration and an Affirmation. St. Michael’s Vision, “Creating a healthier world, through our culture of caring and discovery” and Values, which include “Human Dignity, Excellence, Compassion, Social Responsibility, Community of Service, Pride of Achievement”, help support their Mission Statement. In connection with their mission to provide great care for their patients and families, they have developed, with the help of over 1,000 patients, families, caregivers and community partners, a Patient Declaration that depicts, in the patients’ words, what the patients value at a great hospital. I think this is a wonderful thing to have and it assists St. Michaels to better understand and meet the patients’ expectations. This declaration includes things like wanting clear communication, being treated with respect, having a clean environment, knowing the staff are highly skilled and having access to nutritious food. St. Michaels, as with most hospitals, surveys their patients on numerous topics concerning the care they received. St. Michael’s is required to report on some of the topics, including Patient Satisfaction. From the 4th quarter of 2011 through the 1st quarter of 2014, St. Michael’s received consistent results of over 90% Patient Satisfaction. As an employee of an Academic Medical Center, I can confirm that these results are excellent. Based on this information, the care that St. Michael’s provi... ... middle of paper ... ... policy are contributing factors to one’s health. There have been many papers published from the Research Center and Knowledge Institute. Dr. Kiran, a staff physician, was one of three recipients of a 2012-13 Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Rising Star Award. Dr. Kiran received this award by publishing The Relationship Between Financial Incentives and Quality of Diabetes Care in Ontario, Canada. In conclusion, my analysis of St. Michael’s Website has gone above and beyond to prove that it reflects its Mission Statement. The transparency the hospital has provided from its quality indicators, to its funding and resources and its inclusion of patient and family input and support is a testament to its commitments and values. Mission and vision statements communicate strategic goals. “To provide superior patient-centered care using appropriate and innovative evidence-based practices” is a mission better aligned with Amedisys new direction. Additionally, “Drive growth by delivering a full range of holistic health care services, while cultivating a culture of compassion” is a vision that could be used to inspire employees to achieve Amedisys’ purpose.
In MyEyeDr. ’s Associate Handbook, the former mission statement was “to offer our patients uncompromising quality, value and convenience (2013).” These days, however, this mission statement has completely changed. The Vice President of Marketing led an initiative to revamp, the mission statement in 2015.
Given the long duration of patient quality problems, over ten years, at SGH, the communication plan may need to include not only the internal SGH stakeholders such as employees, but also external stakeholders both in the community, shareholders, and third party vendors. SGH is at greater business risk due to their previous attempts at improving quality and now potential lack of stakeholder confidence. Including stakeholders in the change management process allows the stakeholder’s viewpoint to coevolve with SGH to create a shared view of the change plan and how to measure change success (Windsor, 2010). Engaging with the stakeholders in change plan definition and focuses their energy on helping SGH with the change process, rather than undermining it (Windsor, 2010). Identifying all of the stakeholders for SGH, and engaging them in change communications and planning will assist SGH leadership in evolving the hospital towards a high patient quality
Due to the increasing financial implications, patient satisfaction has become a growing priority for health care organizations, as well as transitioning the health care organization’s philosophy about the delivery of health care (Murphy, 2014). This CMS value based purchasing initiative has created a paradigm shift in health care in which leaders and clinicians must focus on patient centered care and the patient experience which ultimately will result in better outcomes. Leaders and clinicians alike must be committed to the patient satisfaction. As leaders within the organization, these groups must be role models and lead by example for front-line staff. Ultimately, if patients are satisfied, they are more likely to be compliant with their treatment plans and continue to seek follow up care with their health care provider, which will result in decreased lengths of stay, decreased readmissions, increased referrals and decreased costs (Murphy, 2014). One strategy employed by health care leaders to capture the patient experience, is purp...
According to Fred Lee (2004) hospitals use clinical results and process improvement as a gauge of quality as this data can be readily measured and objective. Conversely, patients judge the quality of care by individual perception. Therein a gap of what the patient’s perception of quality care and how the healthcare providers perceive quality of care is created. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the Gaps Model of Service Quality while comparing the findings of the work done by Fred Lee in the book, If Disney Ran Your Hospital: 91/2 Things You would Do Differently.

A mission statement is not only needed for the healthcare organization but all organization profit or non-profit should utilize it. I am part of several non-profit community organization. I feel most organization don’t do a good job in displaying their mission statements. Before this course, I did not feel the need to look at their mission statement but now I believe that
