Education in sport
Brazil sports teams are very successful due to the fact that they have some of the best coaches in the world. But the federations/institutions do not just hire anyone to coach, they want the best and require certain levels of education, licenses, and trainings; which adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Ministry of Education. Becoming a coach of a sports team in Brazil has many requirements, but most importantly ever coach in Brazil must obtain a coaching license under their respective sport institution or federation. In addition to a Bachelor’s degree, a coach much take several training courses and receive licenses depending on what level of sport they want to coach in. A Master’s degree is recommended as well as over 3 years of coaching experience.
After researching through several sport federation websites I noticed that every sport federation across all levels require similar specific objectives and training/courses. For example to be a volleyball coach (incl. beach volleyball), in addition to their bachelor’s degree, coaches must go through training to be recognized as a FIVB (International federation of volleyball coach, be able to keep up with the latest trends or coaching styles and equipment used in the sport, attend technical seminars and complete 3 levels of courses depending on which level of volleyball you want to coach in ("FIVB - Coaches", 2010). To coach youth and recreational completion of Level I: Basic volleyball techniques are required. To coach on the high school and college teams, completion of Level I and Level II: coaching of advanced level teams is required. To become a professional coach completion of all three levels is required; all three levels require hands on training as w...

In Introduction to the Philosophy of Sport, Heather L. Reid presents a discussion of how ethics is treated in the arena of Olympism and some of the struggles of defining and how or if the ethical guidelines should be enforced. Reid notes, “Some would say that ethical principles are always the product of a particular culture, so there can no more be universal ethical principles than there can be a universal culture” (Reid, 22). I disagree with the notion that there cannot be universal ethical principles for athletes to follow in sport because even across cultures there are general morals that shape the lives of people from all over the world. For example, murder and cheating are inherently immoral actions, no matter where someone comes from;

Coaches should have an arrangement of fundamental abilities that they depend on to produce a positive outcome. Definition of a coach from the American Heritage Dictionary, Third Edition (page 167) One who trains or directs an individual or team, to train or instruct teach a team. The goal behind coaching is to exhibit the ability to get the most out of everyone on the team. It should be a goal to bring out the greatest potential from every team member. It’s insane how many players do not even know their true potential. Successful coaches assess these individuals and the team to advance them to the next level of sports. "The Little Book of Coaching, Motivating People to be Winners" by Ken Blanchard and Don Shula (2001) gives a great acronym of the word C-O-A-C-H. The acronym breaks down as follows: Conviction Driven: never compromise your beliefs-Overlearning: practice until it is perfect-Audible-Ready: know when to change-Consistency: respond predictably to performance-Honesty-Based: walk your talk. This acronym should remind you of your job as a coach. A good coach
The effectiveness of the coaching method depends completely on the coach, his personality, and the needs of the student-athletes. Each program and institution is unique and has different institutional goals and objectives that attract different student-athletes compared to other colleges or universities (Koivula, Hassmen, Fallby, 2002).
Figueroa’s framework has been developed to be an influential part of analysing one’s access and equity in exercise, sport, and physical activity (text book). Many social factors directly or indirectly shape opinions and influence an individual’s decisions to participate in physical activity, additionally these factors change throughout an individual’s life (Crossley, 2013). The individual, interpersonal, and institutional level of Figueroa’s framework have all significantly impacted my sporting pathway/career and will be examined further throughout this essay. Through these findings, I will also reflect and predict the level of framework that will primarily influence my future participation in sport.
It is the coach’s responsibility to teach proper skills and techniques to the athletes. It is also the responsibility of the coach to be active in the emergency action plan, stay current with CPR certification and help with the duty of maintaining quality safety equipment.
There are many sports to coach, so choosing the right sport to coach would be the first test for any coach. Naturally, one would want to coach a sport that you know the most about. For ...
“A coach is someone who is equipped to aid individuals or groups and organisations to maximise their performance in pursuit of their desired goals.” (Dexter et al, (2011) p.4)
Although the term coaching may be used to refer to a variety of one-to-one development activities, there is some emerging consensus about what constitute the core features or elements of coaching. Likewise, these are (1) formation and maintenance of a helping relationship between the coach and coachee; (2) a formally defined coaching agreement or contract, setting personal development objectives; (3) the fulfilment of this agreement (i.e., achievement of the objectives) through a development process focusing on interpersonal and intrapersonal issues; (4) striving for growth of the coachee by providing the tools, skills, and opportunities they need to develop themselves and become more effective (Jones, Woods, & Guillaume,

...ill have prepared a whole course of training so that they can build on skills week by week. A coach should think of the bigger picture and know how he is going to develop a player. A good coach needs to be adaptable and to ensure that the training is of benefit to each individual. In individual participation sports this may be easier than in a team sport. For example a coach may teach tennis one-to-one. He still needs to think about what is best for that individual player.
First of all, being a coach is not easy. One must have a balance of being motivated and remaining confident in their efforts. The coach is also responsible for teaching the players the rules of the games. The coach has to carefully monitor each individual student athlete progress to ensure academic eligibility. Coaches must promote good sportsmanship and foster good character in their athletes. Coaches

When it comes to teaching, there are many different ways and types of methods you can use to teach your students. One of the most common ways of teaching is by using Sport Education. This type of teaching style is best used for elementary students. According to Daryl Siedentop, a professor from Ohio State University believes that class should teach kids about skills, teamwork, and the importance behind each sport or activity. Sport Education recreates the meaning behind gym class.
The word coach in a dictionary means a process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve. This means, being successful requires a knowledge and understanding of the process as well as the variety of styles, skills, and techniques that are appropriate to the context in which the coaching takes place. Next is mentoring, which means off-line help by one person to another in making significant transitions in knowledge, work or thinking. Both are very efficient whenever you’re dealing with student-athletes. However, mentoring, particularly in its traditional sense, enables an individual to follow in the path of an older and wiser colleague who can pass on knowledge, experience and open doors to otherwise out-of-reach opportunities. Coaching, on the other hand, is not generally performed on the basis that the coach has direct experience of their client’s formal occupational role unless the coaching is specific and skills focused. Given that shows there are professionals offering their services under the name of mentoring who have no direct experience of their clients’ roles and others offering services under the name of coaching who do. In other words, it is essential to determine what needs are productive, and to ensure that the coach or mentor can supply their student-athletes with the level of service that is required; whatever that service is
