Introduction and Background: One of the most important aspect of youth studies is to find ways not only to educate young people about their career and to “keep them off the streets” but the field also helps to educate them about their environment and surroundings. There are after school programs that educate young people in several ways about the environment and have them engage in wanting to learn more, as well as have some sort of awareness about their environment. Other medium that can contribute to the future of the environment would be the cartoons and the children's television channels with the message behind the awareness of the environment. For instance, within the children's section of the Barnes and Noble offers books from Nickelodeon’s Big Green Help Series, with the headlines like SpongeBob Goes Green! and Save the Tree! At my school, I am an active member of a program called S.E.E.D., which stands for Students Ending Environmental Destruction. As a group, spread awareness about recycling, water conservation and remediation, climate change, and other environmental problems the world faces today. We make sure that every classroom has a recycling bin and informative posters above them. We have hosted movie nights where we provide healthy, GMO-free refreshments and show an educational film that relates to a current issues to spread awareness. We have also convinced our school to install stations that are specifically meant to refill water bottles as it encourages students to stop buying plastic bottles and wasting plastic. Taking care of the environment and educating our youth, the congressmen, women, and voters of tomorrow who will be the deciding factors of the earth’s health, and consequently the people’s health, is crucial to me.

Taking into account how many years it has been since that I’ve had to learn/relearn and also that of the generational gap of information encompassing these given topics, and with my knowledge (and/or lack thereof) may be sparse in consistency there certainly is a lack of usable knowledge from that of when I was in the earlier years (to ease confusion this refers to the levels of k-12) of schooling and that of the known usable knowledge now. To start this essay I will talk about the influences that were/are important in my education, what has/is the primary source to shape my education, and my past/present educational experiences.
The experience of teaching ELL students was very enlightening to me. At the time I was expected to teach this lesson, students were in the middle of their social studies unit of responsibility. They learned about various types of responsibilities, and one of them was responsibility to the environment. The actual lesson I was supposed to teach focused on the importance of making choices that would have a positive impact on students’ close environment. I was also to talk about environmental problems in the students’ neighborhood, and encourage them to devise some solutions to those problems.

Also, when I was a counselor at the Ecotarium in Worcester Massachusetts, my fellow counselors and I tried to show the campers why preserving the environment is so important. We did this by showing them that the vast majority of our resources, including medicine, wood for houses, and food, come from nature. We showed them how fragile many animals are to changes in the environment. Part of Ecotarium is dedicated to rehabilitating and caring for animals that have been injured in the wild. The campers enjoyed working with the animals and began to realize that many of the causes for the displacement of these animals stemmed from the loss of their habitat due to human intrusion. I feel that incorporating the importance of environmental preservation at a young age is crucial because it well help to establish environmentally-friendly habits.
Is it right that future generations, who have committed no crimes, be forced to live in a contaminated environment with freshwater depletion, polluted air, global warming and biodiversity reduction just because our present generation has caused the damage? Should our future children be ensured an ecologically healthy environment? I think they should. I strongly believe that protecting the environment is extremely important. We are all part of the environment; Earth is what we all share in common. It is our home and we are obliged to preserve it.
