Essay on Road Accidents

The motor vehicle, an invention created with the purpose of getting from point A to point
B at a rate much faster than walking or a horse and buggy. Speed limits have now been placed to
keep our now advanced cars in check, to prevent fatal or life altering accidents. These limits
almost always are broken by common drivers. Breaking these limits have become a part of many
cultures. Cars going at top speeds are seen in movies, TV show, and even in sports such as
NASCAR. So in saying that my group and I impose the question, why is it that drivers tend to go
well above the speed limit, why is going the speed limit frowned upon and seen as people not
knowing how to drive, what kind of people are driving too fast, why has it become a part of
cultures

to put your life at risk by going unnecessarily fast, and most importantly what would happen if someone were to go the exact speed limit on any sort of road, whether it be county, highway or state.
Our first part of our experiment started with a series of interviews with the students, and
faculty of Hartsville, and the citizens of the small town. What we found is that the students were
generally the ones to quickly assume that going the speed limit is ridiculous, that if they were
stuck behind someone going the speed they would become frustrated. Surprisingly the younger
faculty members and citizens of Hartsville were also quick to jump to the same conclusion. They
all see it as unnecessary for people to go that slow, especially if the presence of law enforcement
was not there. While we found that younger generations of people believe that going above the
speed limit, older generation prefer to go much slower. They said that it make them feel safer
knowing that they are going the speed limit and are at a less risk of getting into an accident.
First we started out on the normal streets of South Carolina where the average speed was
about 45 miles per hour. We decided for the normal roads to go a little under the speed limit for
more results. The trend in our interviews made its presence in the actual experiment. We were
met by angry drivers the honked relentlessly and even had a tenacious young lady tailgate us
for about two miles. However elderly people did not mind at all, in fact they went the same pace as us and consistently stayed there. It seemed as if on the normal roads that older people are complacent with going slower than normal even though most people go fast. Next we went onto the highway rods to see if we can get more results. We ended up receiving even more anger on the highway roads as compared to the normal roads. Surprisingly though we meet aggression from both young and older people. We theorized it was because people use these roads to rush to their destination as fast as possible and when they encounter a slow driver they get easily agitated. On the highway roads we were tailgated honked at and even yelled at by very aggressive people that were trying to go well above the speed limit. The speed limit was 60 miles per hour and we decided to go 55, everyone around us however was pushing 70-75 miles per hour. Through our experimentation we proved that to going fast on any type of road is the norm. People seemed to get very upset when they encounter a driver that is going below or just at the speed limit because they feel as if they are not going fast enough. Younger generations of people are more likely to express anger or aggression but the elderly did show a little anger too.
Many years ago, a popular movie, "Top Gun" coined the phrase "I feel the need, the need." need for speed and speed." Many drivers today would agree with that phrase. Speeding is one of the most common ways that people break the law. When people break the law there are unpleasant consequences.
“Have you ever noticed how anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and everyone going faster than you is a maniac?” George Carlin once, jokingly asked. However, this is not the case for drivers on the famous highway systems in Germany. When you drive in Germany you can be“idiot” in the government’s eyes if you go too slowly, drive in the wrong lane or impede the flow of traffic. This distinction is not unique in Germany but is applicable on their federal highway system, aptly named the Autobahn. Rules regarding how anyone driving on the autobahn state that a driver must go a certain speed, or that driver becomes a public safety hazard, much like that of speeders in America. Many foreigners only hear how the autobahn has no speed limit and that is not necessarily true. There are in fact many areas that are speed limited and strictly enforced by the polizei and speed cameras integrated into the guard rail or surroundings. German drivers receive up to two years of very expensive and intensive training before driving within the country. In my opinion, I believe there should be an Autobahn-like system in America because it teaches future generations not only maturity, but also discipline and responsibility.
To conserve fuel and save lives. fifty-five (55) miles per hour national speed limit should be restored. Driving at 55 miles per hour or less conserves fuel. Billions of barrels of Oil and gas are used up each year so that Americans can drive at high speeds across the country. The.
In his article,“Driving While Stupid”, David Barry expresses his opinions toward the drivers in Miami, and in different countries as well. Even though he has met bad drivers throughout his life, he strongly believed that Miami drivers are the worst drivers because of the way the drive. David Barry describes all the bad drivers he has seen to prove his point that drivers in Miami are still the worst drivers.
Today’s society appears to be constantly on the go. People seem to be pulled in multiple directions at once. Individuals never appear to have enough time to complete tasks that continually accumulate. It can be difficult to criticize someone that tries to make the most out every minute. Unfortunately, some of today’s drivers show a lack of judgment and trying to perform other tasks, while behind the wheel. People may feel this is best use time while getting to a destination. Occasionally, the small amount of time that people are trying to gain results in a time consuming accident. With modern conveniences that are geared toward an on the go public, individuals appear to be too preoccupied to driving safely.
Drivers who speed often do not realize the enormous danger they are creating. When someone is speeding they have a higher braking time and are often going too fast to notice all of their surroundings, and fail to take all of the safety precautions a driver should use. Road conditions play a large role in the effects of speeding. Choosing to speed can also get a person’s license taken away, cost a fortune, or both.
On top of that, these type of people use their cellphone, eat, don't wear seat belts, or drunk while they are driving. But these people don't realize that doing those minor thing can cause them severe pains or even deaths. There are millions of peoples are getting killed and injured every year because of car accident. I think if everyone use the traffic rules, all
...bit faster than normal. What should drivers do? Well, there is something we can do that would allow for us to be able to raise the speed limits. We can write to our local representatives and let them know the need for raising the speed limits. Provide good research and valuable information that will help them to make the best possible decision. Of course, we must obey the law until the speed limits are changed. God has commanded us to render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. (Bible) This was used not only in the aspect of money but also in the aspect of all of Caesar’s laws. The urge is very real to want to break the law, but think about others before yourself. According to Terry Turner we need to think of the why before the how. Basically ask yourself, why do I need to speed? Then after careful consideration of all factors, decide how fast to drive your automobile.
...ture a risk-taking species. In ancient times we took risks just to eat. Later we took huge risks by setting out in little wooden ships to explore the earth's surface. We continued as we sought to fly, travel faster than the speed of sound and to head off into space. We rely on increasingly more complex equipment and constantly strive to design and manufacture faster and even more elaborate devices. It goes without saying that every effort is made to ensure our "safety"; to keep us from harm or danger. Every time you slide behind the wheel of your vehicle you are taking a risk. Driving is the riskiest activity in our lives. It is an inherently "unsafe" environment. The most perfect vehicles on the best designed highways on beautiful sunny days driven by fallible human beings crash into each other. The only way to drive "safely" (as we are all admonished to do!) is to learn more about the process. Learn more about your vehicle and how to maintain it; learn how to use your eyes to look far down the road; learn to spot problems before they happen; and also learn to deal with emergency situations. In most cases it's the human element that fails. After all, safe is only as safe does.
...ces and actions. Driving is a privilege but some people takes advantage of it while endangering other lives that don’t deserve it.
Imagine driving on I-75 as cars race by you at a blink of an eye. You are driving 60 miles per hour, the speed limit; they must be doing 100 miles per hour or more. This is not an illusion; this is the reality of driving on a highway. Believe it, it happens everyday. Cars race down the road at uncontrollable speeds that cause tickets, accidents, and sadly death. Speed limits are a must for traffic control, for safety in neighborhoods and for avoidance of collisions.
According to Federal Highway Administration (FHwA) study in which speed limits were varied at 100 locations nationwide resulted "raising posted speed limits by as much as 15mph had little effect on the motorists' speed." The data actually indicates that accident rate reduced at sites where speed limits were raised. Traveling at high speeds saves time and gets you to your destination quicker and the traffic usually travels five to ten miles faster than the posted speed limit.
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
A. The number one cause is probably the “left-lane hog”, according to a story in the Amarillo Daily News.
...s to make traffic more efficient. For example, the Ohio Revised Code in section 4511.21 states clearly that "No person shall operate a motor vehicle, trackless trolley, or a street car at a speed greater than reasonable or proper due regard to the traffic." Road speed limits are used to regulate the speed of vehicles. Sometimes people try to get somewhere and they go over the speed limit not realizing that they are putting themselves in danger. Now every time I get in a car with a friend or a family member, I make sure that they are going by the speed limit, not texting and paying attention on the road. It is very important that we follow this rules because they are only protecting us, and keeping us safe. If we want to reduce the millions of deaths that are caused by this imprudence every year we need to start being more responsible when we get behind the wheel.
