People may have the desire to deliver effective presentations to their audience, whether it is for informative or persuasive reasons. However, speaking persuasively makes it more difficult to do so since the goal is to make others agree with a certain idea that can concern their beliefs and values. In order to attempt to make the audience listen attentively and sway towards the side being argued for, without being offensive, the speaker or student has several ethical obligations to be followed while making their persuasive speech. To ensure that the speech is proper and factual, the speaker must have ethical goals and fair ways to express their ideas honestly. The person delivering the presentation should want the listener to lean towards …show more content…
Name-calling and abusive language should be avoided at all costs, especially since the audience most likely comes from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and it makes the speaker sound like a bigot. Furthermore, it is wise to keep the audience’s feelings and emotions in mind because if someone becomes offended by what the speaker had said, that person will most likely stop listening intently to the rest of the speech, therefore failing to be persuaded or enlightened by the speech in any way. Similarly, if the audience hears degrading language, it can hinder their willingness to consider the argument of the speaker. The presenter should use their word choice very carefully by doing research beforehand, since something considered acceptable in one culture or language could mean something highly degrading or offensive in another (“Why Avoid Profanity” 1). This can even occur with words that we would never expect. For example, in English, we all know the word “sale”, which is used mainly when something is discounted at the store. However, according to Word Reference, the word “sale” in French translates to “dirty” in English, therefore, if an English person were to accidently say this to someone that speaks French primarily, the French person can become offended, depending on the situation …show more content…

...an is capable of persuading his audience into accepting his simplistic views of the world. He makes it easier to rationalize with his stance by his strategic use of sentence structure and word choice. When analyzing a past speech or interpreting a speech as it is given, upmost priority should be given to analytical tools for analyzing persuasive symbols and language. Whether the topic at hand is motivated by great emotions as it is here or not, the audience can easily be swayed in one direction surprisingly based only on universal comprehension.
Throughout American history, important, credible individuals have given persuasive speeches on various issues to diverse audiences.
My dad and I go hunting every weekend during deer season which is from mid of Novmber to the first of Janurary. We go sit at 6:00am and we leave at 8:00am,but why we sit we will be wacthing birds and squirrals playing in the place we have corn they will eat it like deer does.We half to sit still were the deer can’t see us in the deer stand. When we go hunting you have to climb up in the deer stand and then sit patiertly to wait for something to come out of the woods. We look three or four different way in the stand.”My dad stated,” theres a deer.We go hunting in Pearson Georgia. When we go hunting we have to be careful because the gun could go off.It could be dangous going hunting by yourself. But if anything happen I can help him.Because we
Gaining the credibility in a speech can be difficult at times and can test even the best speakers ability to keep the crowds attention and respect. One of the ways to keep credibility with a crowd is practicing and applying appeal to ethics. Which is defined as winning the favor of the audience by showing strong credibility in the speaker (Merriam-Webster). One of the best speeches that exemplifies the usage of appeal to ethics is Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death” speech where he addresses an issue of war at the revolutionary convention. Henry through appeal to ethics developed his credibility and wanted the people listening at the convention to believe they can’t sit and do nothing instead they have to get their hands dirty and fight.
. While the program claimed over 70,000 victims during its two years of open operation, the killing centres murdered even more victims between the official conclusion of the program and the end of the Nazi leadership in 1945. The total number killed under the T4 Program, including the secret phase, may have reached 200,000 or more.
Ethical performance is important to persuade because civic communication has an accountability to be constructed morally. Ethics alternates the idea of the past encouragement. Persuasion is a procedure that must be ethical in order to be productive. “Persuasion provides a useful framework for analyzing the overall ethical of a persuasion attempt” (Magee,
In this chapter, Heinrichs explains Cicero’s five canons of persuasion: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. These techniques should be used in any speech or presentation and are very applicable in varied parts of my life: social, academic, team environments. I believe that the most important are invention; the materials for the speech, and style; proper language, clearness, vividness, decorum. Personally, I consider style and delivery to be my strengths, but on the other hand, these two techniques can be so enhanced by effective invention and arrangement. The author creates an essential rule of thumb of “Ethos first. Then Logos. Then Pathos.” that was mentioned in the first chapter. I am going to strive to remember this ordering as an underlying outline in my speech and writing: Introduction, Narration, Division, Proof, Refutation, and Conclusion. The author also mentions the ideal voice has volume, stability and flexibility, which I interpret as a tone that can be used in my future writing. Overall, the chapter, Give a Persuasive Talk, provides realistic and understandable tools for successful
The last rule was Pathos which was the emotional appeal of your speech. Connecting with your listeners on
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
Many people drive a car everyday and it is usually an automatic. Not many people today know how or want to drive a manual. With many automatic cars being sold the most there are hardly any manual cars. Learning to drive a manual can be difficult, but luckily I will tell you how you can drive one and before I do that I will tell you why it is good to learn. I will also tell you why it is becoming rare to see someone drive a manual.
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
New year, new you. That's the mantra of thousands of Australians each year when they decide it's hip to get fit! Running is one of the cheapest exercises you can choose to boost your exercising endeavours. All you need is a new pair of shoes and the motivation to get those legs out the front door. The problem is, your over-enthusiastic attitude could send you straight to the injury bench if you do not follow a few rules designed to newbie runners.
While watching “The Persuaders” I understand ethical persuasion to mean convincing people to buy a certain product or service. To convince people to believe in something or to believe a certain way (to agree or not agree).
In order to successfully deliver an oral presentation such as a speech, the speaker must follow certain procedures to ensure his message can be conveyed clearly. Vast amounts of research are essential in order to acquire the knowledge necessary to be able to speak about a topic comfortably and answer any questions the audience might have during the course of the presentation. After acquiring such knowledge about the topic of the presentation the speaker will feel more confident, confidence is key in delivering speeches and other oral presentations because it makes the speaker look more credible and trustworthy. Lastly, the speaker must be fluid and eloquent with his words, the speaker must be able to sound clear and crisp while delivering their
I did do one super crazy thing in high school, I mean it wasn’t like why did you do that? Anyways, in high school we had a tradition that has been around for as long as I can remember. It occurs during homecoming week, the upperclassmen specifically juniors and seniors did this activity that was more or less accepted amongst the community. We went around teepeeing houses of students, we weren’t allowed to do anyone else's house. I mean we forked a teachers house but that isn’t really bad we didn’t get in trouble and we went to clean it up the next day. He thought it was funny, so he let us get away with it.
