The planet Zebes is considered an unusual one by Galactic Federation scientists. The weather is relatively bleak; the sun rarely bursts through the nearly permanent overcast skies, and rain occurs often. Acid rain is uncommon, however when the acid storm happens, all living beings are endangered except native species that have adapted to such treacherous conditions. Samus, curious as to what the shuttle was doing at her home, travels down from the vantage point and inside the perimeter of her uncle’s homestead. The area is calm; save for a slight breeze from the west. As Samus begins to wander directly to the homestead entrance, she notices movement ten meters ahead to her left. Preparing her arm cannon, Samus cautiously walks towards the movement. As she steps around a wooden barrier, she sees what the movement is; a Zebesian Space Pirate. Startled, Samus jumps back and collapses to the ground. The Space Pirate takes notice and opens fire with his “civilian” version of the Battlehammer weapon. This particular version of Battlehammer fires small clusters of green mortar-type shells, unlike the military version which is powered by a small nuclear reactor and fires large mortar-type shells with a large explosion radius. …show more content…
She is all too familiar with the Pirates; in fact their interference was the reason behind the Metroid crisis, in particular the SR388 infestation. As the pirate mocks Samus for being a coward, the nimble bounty hunter leaps over the barrier and lands on top of the Pirate. Screaming in confusion, the Pirate tries to slash Samus off in vain. Samus casually places her arm cannon against the Pirate’s forehead, charges the beam, and releases a full blast of energy into the creature’s head. Samus leaps off as the Pirate trembles for several moments before collapsing into the

The Novum presented in Starship Troopers is the rule of the Veterans and the resulting primacy of the military. This Novum sets the novel up as a utopic pandering to a readership demographic that the author himself is a member of. This is a normative sci-fi construction. Starship Troopers deviates in that the true target readership is the young man who has not yet been given a chance to join up. He is meant to gain a favorable understanding of the military man by sharing in his dream. The dream then - the world created – is the persuasive device.

Menace II Society, a film about a young Black man who has lived the “hustler” lifestyle and is struggling to leave it, is a perfect example of deviance as the main character, Caine Lawson, and the characters around him violate many of society’s norms. Throughout the film, the characters swear incessantly, carry around guns and drugs as most people would carry around cell phones, commit street crimes, especially burglary and mugging, on a regular basis, and beat and kill people unscrupulously. The following quote captures just how deviant Caine and the other characters in this film were, “[Caine] went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and armed robbery. It's funny like that in the hood sometimes. You never knew what was gonna happen, or when” (Albert Hughes). Why would Caine consider these crimes “funny”, or rather, so insignificant? What caused Caine to become so deviant? The answers to such questions were woven into the plot of the film and will be discussed in the following paragraphs.

In The Aeneid, fire is a common symbol and it carries multiple meanings through the epic. Fire is usually seen as a destructive force that can ruin entire cities, as seen in Troy. However, in The Aeneid, one important meaning of fire is the connection between destructive emotions and fire. Symbolic fire can reside in the emotions of the characters and symbolize the fury and passion in their hearts. These emotion are clearly conveyed through Dido and Juno as they make impulsive decisions concerning Aeneas. The Aeneid begins with Juno’s “unforgettable rage” (I.4) towards the Trojans. Juno’s rage is a constant problem for Aeneas as he journeys to Italy. Juno’s rage is seen physically when she manipulates Trojan women to set their own fleet on

'The broken globe'; by Henry Kreisel tells the story of a father and a son torn apart by their differing views of the world. Another story which I feel parallels this story in certain aspects is the 1977 classic 'Star Wars'; by George Lucas. In Star Wars, Luke Skywalker, a young farmboy on a backwater world, receives a lightsabre from Obi Wan Kenobi, this inspires an urge to leave his world and learn to be a Jedi. One of the conflicts Luke must face is his Uncle Owen who wishes him to stay on his world and be a farmer. When Luke finally does leave he becomes very successful.
Dale Earnhardt once said, “finishing races is important, but racing is more important.” The 35th president of the United states, John F. Kennedy, also portrayed this in his Moon Speech. This speech was delivered on September 12, 1962, with the object of entering the space race for improvements, discoveries, along with becoming the first in the world. Through his words, John F. Kennedy, uses ethical appeal, logical appeal, and lastly the audience’s sympathies to persuade that the race space is only a challenge intended to be won.
Senior Thesis Show is a series of nine untitled works that are very dramatic in the kind of lighting he uses along with the classical style from which he paints. All the works in the show emit the feeling of isolation and solitude. With a combination of still life and figurative work the paintings start to tell a story of why his subjects are so isolated.
