Idina Menzel: Pop Queen, Broadway Star, award-winning actress, and mother. Idina has starred in the movie Rent, won the Tony Award for her role as Elphaba in the Broadway musical Wicked, played Rachel Berry’s mother in Glee, and voiced Elsa in Frozen. On top of all of this she just came out with her 9th Album, iconically named Idina. The star says that this album is, “The most personal, introspective album I’ve made.” The way that she shows her emotion and tells her story through her music and words is riveting. This album is unique because it is deeply personal, unlike some of her other work she is emotionally vulnerable while she tells her story of the emotions she has experienced in her life. This is a poetic album packed full of 12 incredibly emotional and revealing songs. In her song “Perfect Story”, Idina expresses her emotions of guilt and love for her son as his parents are having struggles. She …show more content…
Like feeling not good enough or being afraid to fall too quickly. It then shows how one is able to go through so much and still come back and be able to show their true selves in a relationship. It expresses a want to get out of the emotions that the artist lived in in the past and to make a comeback with this new love. This song is both parts sad and happy and effectively shows how confusing and contradictory emotions can be. The artist was also using this song to let out her emotions. “Everybody Knows” is about the magnificence of love, and being so in love that you don’t want to sleep so that you don’t miss anything. It showcases the artist’s journey of self-healing through love. “Nothin’ In This World” is similar because it is another love song that portrays the happiness of being with someone and letting worries fade away. It shows what emotions ensue after finally getting something right and getting back on track with a loved one. It’s about not wanting to let go of something
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
In this song one can tell that the singer is very sad and depressed about many things that have happened in his life and the love ones that have passed away. When he sings this lyric “My sweetest friend…. I will let you down” you can tell that it is about how his loved ones have passed on and he let
In the beginning, before any lyrics are sung, the music starts off slow and very inviting. The purpose of this to relieve yourself and just be able to sit back and take in everything he is about to say, and take something away from this song to help the listener for the days to come. The first message the speaker tries to convey comes from the first two lines, “You know there’s a light
Somewhere between rock and roll and the psychedelic seventies is a time of protests, riots and war. From this turbulent time in history, Stephen Stills penned a rhythmic tune which would become an anthem for protests, “For What It’s Worth.” As a member of the group known as Buffalo Springfield, Stills was a talented musician and song writer. The song was written during a time of civil rights protests and the Viet Nam war. Contrary to popular thought, the song was not written to protest the Viet Nam war or the deaths on the Kent State campus, however it was written and recorded to shed light on the Sunset Strip riots in Los Angeles. When Pandora’s Box, a club on the strip for teens, was closed in November 1966, the protests started and lasted
He discusses how his mom got him christmas presents and how he was shocked due to being from a very poor family due to not having the advantage of being white. He continues to say how his emotions are pouring out of him as in he is letting all of the stuff that he has gone through that was hard out and he is ready to let it all out for the best of his health. He mainly discusses the pain he has gone through and how it is hard growing up as a young black male. After this main song, he continues to open up on how he coped with this heartache that he has gone through.
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
The song is interesting because reading the lyrics, listening to the song, and watching the music video all give different meanings about the song. Reading the lyrics suggests that the song is a depressing story about the inner turmoil the writer is feeling and how he is not sure what to do with his life. But after listening to this upbeat and happy song, it seems like it may not be as dreary as it seemed at first. After watching the music video the message can be reinterpreted to be about the internal conflicts of a soldier fighting in a war and he does not know what he is fighting for. The fact that the music completely changes how the lyrics are interpreted is interesting. Nate uses many literary techniques to make this song mysterious and open to interpretation depending on how it is experienced.
The man feels abandoned in a corner and he drinks for the sadness he feels. While drinking, he tells himself I do not understand why you left me, if I know she loved me, so if you ever regret your decision he will be waiting for you. Basically, the man feels broken emotionally because the women he loved, left him for no reason. This song to me is not a dancing song, however the song is more about remembering your ex-wife, ex-girlfriend or ex husband and ex-boyfriend. For me personally, this song reminds me of drinking, the title literally means bitter shots of liquor. The way the song shares the hurt the man feels by the women that left him. I could almost picture a man sitting at a bar drinking to his ex saying, “I’m drinking because of you, you caused this”. I could picture that scene in my head because I have seen my friends in Mexico and my cousins in Mexico do
CSNY is profoundly successful in conveying their message in the song by using the right lyrics and vocals accompanied by the tune of the guitars. “Helplessly Hoping” can be interpreted in so many ways that in either way it, nonetheless, will insinuate on the same thing, which is love. As they put it love is not lying, and it will always be around. Listening to the song can put one in an emotional roller-coaster that its theme can be known beforehand. This perplexed relationship describes the essence of love, and its implications. It reflects on how love can be capricious, which gives a sense of mystery. The harmony of the group in the song makes it one of my favorites, and puts it in my top list of love songs in all times.
Her song is about her feelings of sadness that come around the ending summer; The main theme is about Lana and her summertime sweetheart having to part ways by summers end and her emotions of when that last encounter occurs. Summer romances are always short and fun, but ending the summer relationship is always a bit saddening and depressing. Although I personally do not relate with a romantic experience from this past summer, the feelings she describes in the song whe...
Initially this song was alleged to be a love ballad, but that quickly translated into a melodic tune about the loneliness that takes place in the lives of two people. The song begins with a recurrence of the verse “look at all the lonely people.” This creates emphasis on the subject being discussed, solidarity. The intent of this repetition was to exaggerate the loneliness that is prevalent in the world. The narrators of the song desire to highlight the loneliness that he experiences in the faces of those around him.
But you must have in mind, according to the experience, that you can only hate, what you loved. To me those words are very powerful. To me I feel that he is saying, just like the old saying, that it is better to have loved than to never have loved at all. He feels that even though she hates him, once not very long ago she loved him. Most of his songs have to do with love and heartbreak.
This song is about a marriage where the wife knows that the so called husband is cheating on her even after the they both said “for better or for worse”. She won’t leave him, because she loves him too much, and in this song Sam Smith describes how devastated she is inside. Throughout the video I saw the lying cheating bastard having an affair with another woman. The purpose of the song is that she found out “she’s not the only one”. The wife has no choice but to blame herself for not being good enough.
