In the song, Humble and Kind, written by Lori Mckenna and performed by Tim McGraw, the speaker creates a tone of comfort to draw the audience into really understand what he is trying to say. The speaker’s purpose is for his audience to have high moral values. The speaker creates a mood of comfort intended for everyone in the world to have high moral values.
In the beginning, before any lyrics are sung, the music starts off slow and very inviting. The purpose of this to relieve yourself and just be able to sit back and take in everything he is about to say, and take something away from this song to help the listener for the days to come. The first message the speaker tries to convey comes from the first two lines, “You know there’s a light

that glows by the front door/ Don’t forget the the key’s under the mat”(1-2). These two stanzas are for the listener to know that they can always go home and to not be afraid to do that. She uses imagery to convey this message such as: “There’s a light that glows by the front door”(1). You are able to picture this in your head and maybe even think of the home you live in or grew up in. A glowing light on a house signifies, that you are welcome, and also signifies when you get lost to follow the light and it can lead you home. Also, as the song continues she incorporates more messages for the listener such as: “Go to church ‘cause your mamma says to/ Visit grandpa every chance that you can/ It won’t be wasted time” (5-7). By removing the conjunctions the speaker does this to emphasize that going to church and visiting grandpa is not wasted time. The purpose of this is that there may be things that we do not want to do, but it is never wasted time that we should enjoy the time we spend with family. Lines nine through sixteen is the song’s chorus which are comprised of many life lessons and the way to feel when your dreams are accomplished. The first of the moral values starts when the speaker says, “Hold the door, say ‘please’, say ‘thank you’/ Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie” (9-10). Again the absence of conjunctions is to create the emphasis that there is more than just a couple of morals to have, but there are many. The speaker gets his point off fast to go through all the morals you should have, and to set a bar for us that we should have high expectations for ourselves. Also, in the chorus a hyperbole is present, “I know you got mountains to climb/ But always stay humble and kind” (11-12). The speaker exaggerates the work that lies in front of you, but wants the audience to know that there is a lot ahead of you. These examples from the song support the overall message the speaker is trying to get across, to have high moral values. The speaker tries to get her audience to have not have an attitude of entitlement, and be a happy person.
The speaker wants the audience to work hard and not have a feeling of entitlement such as: “Don’t expect a free ride from no one” (17). By using “from no one” the speaker is emphasizing to really not expect something, but to work hard for it. Also, a hyperbole exists when the speaker says, “Bitterness keeps you from flyin’” (19). The purpose of the hyperbole is to show that if you are bitter it is going to impede you from going on with your life. In the next stanza two contradictory ideas are present, “Know the difference between sleeping with someone/ and sleeping with someone you love” (21-22). These ideas are saying you can do this or that it is up to you. No one is making the choice except you so make sure you understand what is happening before you choose. These ideas of to not be entitlement and to be happy is the message the speaker is trying to get …show more content…
across. Finally, the repetition of “always stay humble and kind” is repeated many times throughout the song.
There is a certain message that the speaker does not want the audience to forget and it is to “always stay humble and kind” (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40). With the repetition of this phrase she wants the audience to remember to be “humble and kind”. After hearing something over and over again it becomes stuck in our mind and that is exactly what the speaker wants. The speakers wants these specific moral values to be repeated for one purpose, these values are essential in life. From “say ‘please’”(25) to “Let yourself feel the pride”(31) all to showcase the values the speaker wants everyone to have or do. Through repetition his purpose is shown and what he wants the audience to do. After you have achieved something great the speaker does not want you to forget to relax, “When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle/ Shut off the AC and roll the windows down/ Let that summer sun shine” (33-36). Through imagery the speaker wants you to relax sometimes and not get caught up in the world too much. These beliefs are what the speaker is trying to get stuck in the audience's head to remember and follow
them. In conclusion, the title “Humble and Kind” gave away what Tim McGraw wanted to get through with this song. For example, to have high moral values, to not be entitled, and to not give up. This is brought forth with the slow and soothing music of the song coupled with his tone of singing and reiteration of “stay humble and kind.”The reiteration of the phrase “humble and kind” supports the message of to have high moral values and not be entitled, and with respect to not giving up the calm tone of McGraw’s voice is the same as a supporting figure such as: a mother or father.
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
I am used to living a very busy life style, so I never paid close attention to where my food was originating from. Usually when I look at my food it is more to find out its nutritional value rather than its origins. After reading Kelsey Timmerman’s “Where Am I Eating?”, it has opened my eyes to some of the horrors of the food industry. Regardless of what I have learned, changing my eating habits would be very challenging, and I do not believe it is entirely necessary. Yes, there are many negatives in the global food economy, but it is not totally corrupt as Timmerman suggests. I believe it would be very difficult to change because of the many misleading food labels, the United States has become unfamiliar with how to produce for the entirety
The song “Most People are Good” by Luke Bryan, describes a theme of hope and seizing the day. This song is clearly directed to an adult audience for it could not be relatable to a younger crowd. The song offers words of wisdom and a recollection of youthful times gone by. The song is told in the first person and portrayed by an ageing man or woman who is expressing their beliefs and personal morals through their experience of youth and forgiveness. The hopeful lyrics are informal but provide bright ideas expressed with a buoyant attitude.
Firstly, when Logic says “I've been on the low I been taking my time/I feel like I'm out of my mind/It feel like my life ain't mine” he is talking about someone calling the suicide hotline who is depressed. Secondly, when Alessa Cara sing “It's the very first/breath when your head's been drowning underwater” when she says drowning she means losing hope, so when she’s taking her first breath it is symbolizing to gain back a little hope. Another example of a literary device is when Alessa Cara sings “It's the lightness in the air/when you're there/chest to chest with a lover” when she says lightness in the air she means the relief of depression off your chest. When Logic says “What's the day without a little night/I'm just tryna shed a little light” he is trying to say that even when there are bad times there can still be a little light or
My personal choice memoir was The World is Moving Around Me by Dany Laferrière, it was a memoir about the Haiti earthquake. Throughout the memoir Laferrière conveys not only his emotions, but his peers. His choice of words and phrases made this novel not only about the Haiti earthquake, but the country of Haiti and its people. His fixed descriptions show this event didn’t only move him physically, but mentally. Lastly, Laferrières connection to the people out side of Haiti, specifically the United States is key to show the world wide impact.
“This a song I never want you to forget. This is my song to you,” she said. On the radio played the song made famous by Tim McGraw called “Humble and Kind” The lyrics focus on remembering where
He discusses how his mom got him christmas presents and how he was shocked due to being from a very poor family due to not having the advantage of being white. He continues to say how his emotions are pouring out of him as in he is letting all of the stuff that he has gone through that was hard out and he is ready to let it all out for the best of his health. He mainly discusses the pain he has gone through and how it is hard growing up as a young black male. After this main song, he continues to open up on how he coped with this heartache that he has gone through.
In the poem the author slowly attempts to explain to the audience that our existence can get better with companionship, but when alone, life can be very sorrow by using the method of concrete diction. In the text Dunbar states, "A pint of joy to a peck of trouble." The author briefly demonstrates the main idea by using measurements and weights which is something well- known and visual for the audience to imagine. Since a peck is more than a pint the author therefore shows that life is mostly remembered as sorrow than joy. Dunbar creates a pessimistic, yet well- informed tone. This therefore creates a
At the time of his life, he was not quite ready to be obligated to such a woman. Maxwell contained lust for other women and wanted to prolong his spinster ways. He was not entirely ready for a monogamous relationship. Within their correlation, with his significant other, he had multiple sexual relations with numerous promiscuous women. He says, "You played me dirty, your game was so bad, toyed with my affliction...( Pretty Wings by Maxwell Songfacts)". Within this song, he acknowledges his unfaithfulness and untrustworthiness infliction. He concedes, in fact, that he toke his spouse for granted. He sounds remorseful as he reflects on his wrong doings. He utters, "I was wrong, you were right, I turned your love into a lie, baby believe me, I 'm sorry I told you lies (Pretty Wings by Maxwell Songfacts)". Eventually, the relationship came to a halt and ended, leaving Maxwell chastened. He liberates his significant other from the pain he has inflicted, allowing gives her the opportunity to be happy with someone other than himself who can give her the love and appreciation she requires. He articulates, "If I can 't have you, Let love set you free, To fly your pretty wings around ("Pretty Wings by Maxwell Songfacts) ". As time continues, his involvement with other women fades as his appreciation and gratitude of what he once had increases. He realized he had
“Perfection is a disease of a nation” (Beyonce Knowles Lyrics). Beyoncé’s music video “Pretty Hurts” is a behind the scenes look at a beauty pageant on how women really feel trying to fit how the media wants us to look. The media makes women and girls feel that the only way they can be happy is by being pretty. The media sets the standards high for someone to be pretty enough to fit in. The video was released on April 24th, 2014; it was filmed at a small high school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. It was filmed at a high school because the producers wanted the video to feel more like a small town pageant. While Beyoncé was growing up she did beauty pageants and experienced first handedly what they were like for girls. The song was written by Sia Furler, and the video was produced by Columbia Records. Leslie Silko’s “Deer Song” is a stunning, if melancholy, work of art. The poem opens with winter storm imagery, taking the reader to a desolate and harsh world. A mountain is introduced to the reader as the poem’s setting, the rock covered by snow and ice. Silko also introduces the poem’s trend toward visceral body imagery and diction when she writes that the river flowing down the mountain is “clotted white in silence,” the word clotted bringing to mind the clotting of blood. This word would insinuate that the river on the mountain is similar to the veins in a human, and that the winter has halted the flow of the mountain’s veins, putting it to sleep, or to death. The trend continues as Silko describes the “shattered” ice on the mountain
The song I chose is called “Before He Cheats”. It was composed by Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, and it was performed by Carrie Underwood. It is about when a guy cheats on Carrie Underwood so she demolishes his truck. I chose this song because it is hilarious and I like it. It also has a lot of imagery.
From the first stanza of this song, you get put into a scene. You know almost immediately that it is about someone, and it is the middle of December, but without stating the obvious, it paints a more illustrated picture for you. The first line states, “A winters day, in a deep and dark December” and I could almost immediately feel a cool breeze around me. When I normally think of a winter’s day, I think of people playing in the snow, and having a good time. This may be because I grew up in Southern California where there has been a lack of snow, but in my head, that is what I imagine. Having them state, in a deep and dark December, turns my attitudes to the more pessimistic way of looking at things. The image of children playing in the snow in my head has now turned to cold and dark emptiness. Reinstating my idea of emptiness, the next line follows with the simply statement, “I am alone”. Personally, I hate being alone. So to have the opening words place us in a deep and dark setting, and then state that you are alone, automatically puts me in a negative mindset.
The song accomplishes such a thing by taking the approach of a man who knows he is dying, and who takes a nice approach to it. Before the man dies and gets to experience the beauty of heaven, he explains to his loved ones that he doesn't want them to cry for him when he is gone but rather be happy for him. Images of different seasons of the year to explain the process of growing older. Images that depict the fading of light in a persons soul transforming into darkness. Images that the reader can perceive as vivid actions.
