The song I chose is called “Before He Cheats”. It was composed by Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, and it was performed by Carrie Underwood. It is about when a guy cheats on Carrie Underwood so she demolishes his truck. I chose this song because it is hilarious and I like it. It also has a lot of imagery. “Before He Cheats” is about a guy who cheated on Carrie Underwood and she gets revenge. It talks about how this guy is going on dates and dancing with another girl. So she gets even by demolishing his four wheel drive truck. She carved her name into his leather seats. And slashed a hole in all four tires. Then Carrie said “maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats”. She also said she saved some trouble for the next day. The Most obvious poetic device in “Before He Cheats” is imagery. Imagery is the use of language to convey sensations through our senses (hearing, sight, smell touch, tasting). She said “Right now, he's probably up behind her with a pool stick, Showing her how to shoot a combo”. I can actually see this in my head. I also get out of this what actually happened and why Carrie Underwood would be mad. …show more content…
One poetic device in “Before He Cheats” is Echo.
Echo is the repetition of key words or ideas for effect. One thing Carrie Underwood said was “Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats”. It says that a few time just to get across that he cheated and why she got her revenge. She also always repeats how she destroyed his truck. She said “ I dug my keys into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive, Carved my name into his leather seats, I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights, I slashed a hole in all four tires” This goes with mabe he’ll think before he cheats because if this happened to him next time he probably won’t cheat on
someone. One poetic device in “Before He Cheats” is mood. Mood is the feeling the song or poem creates. The mood of the song is angry, mad, and sad. I got that Carrie Underwood is mad because she completely destroys the guy’s truck that cheated on her. She starts out the song by saying “he’s probably slow dancing with a bleached blond tramp” and goes on and on about what they are doing. Then she says “He don’t know that I dug my keys into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive, carved my name into his leather seats, I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights, I slashed a hole in all four tires, Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats”. This is where I got that she was angry. At the beginning I thought she was just going to be sad, but then she starts talking about how she got revenge and I realized she was just super mad. One poetic device in “Before He Cheats” is personification. Personification is giving human like attributes to inanimate objects, or animals. Carrie underwood uses this by saying “Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive” In my mind she says this mockingly like she thinks it is stupid and doesn’t like it. Then she goes on to say “ I took a louisville slugger to both headlights” She didn’t really take a slugger to his head lights she is saying she smashed them with a bat.
In Verhsawn Ashanti Young’s article titled, “Nah, We Straight: An argument Against Code Switching,” he makes his objectives clear as he argues against people Right to their own language. The author questions the advantage of standard American English as opposed to other types of English. He refers to those aspect as code switching, which he believes can lead to racist thinking. Code switching, according to Young, calls out for one way of speaking to be omitted in favor of others, based on one's rhetorical situations. The author points out that students are required to translate from Afro-American English or Spanglish to standard English and not the other way around, which is concerning. Youngs method to get around this segregation is the usage
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
The story “The Old Man Isn’t There Anymore” by Kellie Schmitt is about a lady who lives in China that tries to make friends with the people in her apartment. She does this by sending sympathy flowers to the family of the old man that passed away. She then later attends the funeral of the old man. In the end Schmitt creates a funny twist. Schmitt created an intriguing story about a person’s experience in China.
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
“Then He Kissed Me” by The Crystals contains a stylistic technique of layering. In the beginning of the song, it starts out with a guitar solo and then more instruments are continuously added in one at a time, along with the singers. The sound is rich and complete with multiple instruments layering in the background, which means that doubling and/or triple rhythm sections were used. The instruments blend together to create a single effect that builds up to a climax. Near the end of “Then He Kissed Me”, each instrument gradually drops out one at a time to create a decrescendo effect in the sound, counteracting the layering technique in the beginning of the song.
“Fire away. Take your best shot, show me what you got. Honey I’m not afraid (Chris, Lines 4-5)…” Strength, love, heartache, all words that many people can identify with, but what about mental illness, depression, and suicide. These words are those that humans avoid, pretend they are not there, but in reality those three words effect many more people that was ever thought possible. Over 18.2% of United States citizens suffer from a mental illness (Depression), 6.7% of United States citizens suffer from depression (Depression), and each year in the United States there are on average 42,773 deaths by suicide (American). Now, many people can relate to the words love and heartbreak, but many more can identify with the three words that the world
Although the danger and adrenaline an unfaithful acquaintance may feel to being unfaithful to their loved one; it can cause the other person in the relationship to feel damage physically and mentally; leaving a mess of words of feeling unworthy. Both the songs: “before he cheats” and “perfect” show a women’s perspective of what it felt like to being cheated on, However “Before He Cheats” uses her betrayal of trust to good use in contrast to “perfect’s” strategy of staying in a toxic relationship. In “before he cheats” the woman who got cheated on took her deep hatred and betrayal she had towards the situation and turned it to revenge; a dish best served cold. However in “perfect” the women was hurt
“Hurt” a song originally recorded by Nine Inch Nails which portrays self-harm and heroin addiction has been covered by many great artists including Johnny cash. When Johnny cash covered this song I got a deferent message from the lyrics while he sings it, maybe it is because of his voice or how he lived his life, but when he is singing this song I get a sense that he is singing about a loved one that has passed on, growing older, and his legacy.
This first song goes well with Holden because we see throughout the whole book, how Holden experiences loneliness. Holden says, “The first thing I did when I got off at Penn Station, I went into this phone booth. I felt like giving somebody a buzz” (Salinger 59) This is just one example of Holden’s loneliness. At this time he is just getting of the train realizing he has nobody to go to and nobody to talk to so he feeling like calling someone even if it’s just to talk to. n the song Talking To Myself, The lyrics say “Is anybody out there?/It feels like I'm talkin' to myself/No one seems to know my struggle/And everything I come from/Can anybody hear me?”(Eminem) This song by Eminem is a good example of Holden’s loneliness because throughout the song it
There are many phrases that have several different meanings and interpretations. One phrase is slightly more difficult to decipher; the title of Tim McGraw’s latest hit “Humble and Kind”. The songwriter, Lori Mckenna, takes important characteristics people should possess and incorporates them into a song. This song describes many life situations and is directed toward the general youth of today. McKenna writes while thinking of her children and the life lessons they should learn (Lyrics Uncovered). McGraw then puts them into a melody that is calm, as if he is teaching as he sings. The single “Humble and Kind” is packed full of life lessons for all to hear.
Poets often times share their opinions through their poems. It is not always easily understood. Poets use metaphors, similes, and play with their words to show how they feel about a certain situation. In “Sex without Love” by Sharon Olds, a lot of this comes into play.

Johnny Cash can be considered one of the best country artists of all times, but the soul of his music is rooted in the blues. Many of Cash’s songs are about the complications that come with love. The four songs listed above are only a few parts of the story Cash teaches us about the world of love. Most importantly, Cash does a wonderful job of explaining the complicated nature of love and how it really is the most powerful force in the world. Before diving into each of these songs, one must first understand how Cash is a blues artist just as much as he is a country artist.
The first literary device that can be found throughout the poem is couplet, which is when two lines in a stanza rhyme successfully. For instance, lines 1-2 state, “At midnight, in the month of June / I stand beneath the mystic moon.” This is evidence that couplet is being used as both June and moon rhyme, which can suggest that these details are important, thus leading the reader to become aware of the speaker’s thoughts and actions. Another example of this device can be found in lines 16-17, “All Beauty sleeps!—and lo! where lies / (Her casement open to the skies).” These lines not only successfully rhyme, but they also describe a woman who
All of them have an effect on how the reader understands the meaning of the poem, and how well the poem’s message comes across. Repetition is used in the second and fourth line of Because She Would Ask Me Why I Loved Her, to draw the reader’s attention to those words repeated, and make them value the meaning of the lines that contain that repetition more. The couplet in lines 1-2 says, “If questioning would make us wise /No eyes would ever gaze in eyes”. The repetition is of the word “eyes” and it draws attention to the line; which means if they questioned why they loved each other, they would never look at each other the same way (they would no longer be together). This is a very important message that is carried throughout the poem, which is why the use of repetition is so important. Personification is used in the last line of the first stanza, where it describes kissing as two mouths “wandering”: “No mouths would wander each to each.” This connection between a human action and lips, which cannot actually wander, is a way for the author to describe kissing in a more descriptive way that provides interest and depth to the poem. Assonance is also used to alter the flow of a line, like it does in the first line of the concluding stanza: “Then seek not, sweet, the "If" and "Why"’’. “Seek” and “sweet” both contain the “ee” sound, as well as alliteration, to change how the line flows, and get the reader to read that line in a certain way. Having the lines in a poem flow easily makes it cohesive and complete. Lastly, alliteration is used in this poem to emphasize those words and the meaning of the line they belong to: “For I must love because I live”. That third line in the last stanza has the repeated “L” sound at the beginning of the two most important words in that line, which
