Subject- The lyrics in this song brings up a reoccurring problem that everyone faces throughout their lifetime. Everyone wants to fit in or belong to someone, or something. This song easily compares to the book Frankenstein, when the reader is introduced to the monster. The monster that Victor created does not understand the world he has been put into, or how to operate in everyday society. In the first stanza Phil Collins writes, “Whatever you do, I’ll do it too Show me everything and tell me how It all means something Yet nothing to me.” In the book the monster says, “Now it is time! Save me and protect me! You and your family are the friends whom I seek. Do not desert me in the hour of trial.” Both quotes compare to each other because what Mr. Collins is trying to say, is the way the monster is feeling and going through. Save and protect me!” The monster does not want to be judge on how he looks but how he acts, just like everyone else in society today wants to be treated. Tone- There is a very malicious tone throughout this song and throughout this book. The song talks about fitting in and wanting to be just like everyone else. “I wanna know, can you show me I wanna know about these strangers like me Tell me more, please show me Something’s familiar about these strangers like me.” The point is everyone looks the same when it comes down to it, so society should not judge by the way a person lives their life without the background information. The monster wants to be able to be loved by someone, which will not hurt him or disown him. “It’s warmth and rest that I need,” Humans are not accepting of new things which makes the
