There are several things that happened in the film that directly show these strategies of influencing a positive learning environment in the film. One thing that shows him managing student behavior is mostly through principal. He brings Souleymane to the principal’s office to get punished instead of doing it himself. An example of a negative thing of his teaching style is when the kids are having side conversations and Soleymane starts being really rude and disrespectful to Mr. Marlin. He has arguments in the middle of class with most notably Soleymane. He doesn’t have very good at managing behavior he just argues with students in front of the entire class. Or tried to I believe this was a teaching choice he made. The idea is good. It is a good idea to have the students more involved in their learning, but forcing students to read is the right. If a student doesn’t want to read you shouldn’t make them. They will just be mad at you and they will disengage in the lesson. Engaging students is something you need to do. The idea again will engage them, but forcing them is not the way. In terms of reading you need let them volunteer to read. This incidence only happened once. A girl refused to read. It did appear to have a negative impact on the girl because she refused and seemed in a bad irritated mood for the rest of class. The girl appeared to not be participating for the rest of class. He as a fourth year teacher should know that forcing students to do things they don’t want to as in reading and answering questions in class is not a good idea. Some students are not comfortable talking or reading in front of the class. Sometimes they are just being lazy and are comfortable. In one of our response articles the “Have Smartphones destroyed a generation” is a great example of how to engage your students. Not allowing them to be on their smartphones. We discussed what a boring v enjoyable class has been for us in the past. Usually an enjoyable class consists of conversation and reading. He does a good job at that. He does a good job at engaging the students this way even though the main thing im talking about is him forcing the girl to read. I think is wrong. We didn’t really talk about this decision in class.
