I love the goal setting piece of modeling guide helping clients with develop SMART goals we have done in class was so helpful. I have learned that developing a SMART learning goal makes sure that my goal is focused and provides a clear idea of what I want to learn. On a personal level, I see myself developing leadership skills in this course. I have felt as though I have learned the experience; therefore I have to practice skills in way of sharing whatever I can and I appreciate the opportunity to do so, too. I am also enjoying the exchange that in class after group therapy runs the feedback given by instructor and classmate as well. I feel that this is a very thoughtful group of students and instructor and I am stretching myself to learn more and share what I have learned. The readings text book is provide knowledge of a basis for support of how to run group therapy and I find myself I have to closely grasp some skills and converted to actions. I appreciate that we are all open to sharing our experiences and this makes for an invaluable learning experience for me. In addition, the positive environment which we create in our class helps me to feel comfortable to share and to be a part of this team. Therefore, practicing group therapy model is instrument that incorporates the group members in a time perspective and opens up a conversation about groups here –and –knows and its hopes for the future. I think whether the groups are short term or long term, both require adjustment, adaptation, continual accommodations, and understanding of self. During this stage I can help groups through acknowledging the members feelings first before pushing them because emotional process of healing will came over time. In addition, I will also take a broad view of the healing process to include all levels of functioning, emotional being one, then there is mental, physical, and spiritual. It was rather an uneventful week. I still struggle with facilitating and co-facilitating group therapy. I think I am becoming less uncomfortable, but still anxiously nervous. Every time I need to say something, give feedback, or ask a question, I overthink in my head and wonder if it is the right thing to say, if it is going to be helpful, or rather sound silly. The thing that stands out most is my frustration when my groups become “individual sessions with audience”. Even if I try to bring it back to we-centered theme, involve others, and encourage group thinking, some people tend to monopolize the group time, and I just feel that it is a wasted time. To reduce any unnecessary risks, I will understand each member’s limits, respect their requests, be invitational and not dictatorial, describe their behavior and not be judgmental, and avoid harsh verbal confrontations. These risks will also be discussed during the initial session of the group. I will counteract psychological risks by using various techniques such as blocking, caring confrontation, questioning, and assessing. I have taken precautionary measures as well by contacting my mentors and consultants and alerting them about the risks of the group I am running. Throughout the course of a Master’s counseling program, moments of doubt, and a lack of working knowledge are bound to play a major role in the confidence a future counselor will posses in effectively implementing interventions early on in the instructional phase of his or her career. Corey (2010) states that an effective group leader, is able to become aware of their own vulnerabilities, and take responsibility in their responses. To become aware of a possible vulnerable area, a counselor must first take a concise look into their personal strengths and weakness, and then decide to actively seek out assistance with working on vulnerabilities. In exploring the roles of an effective group leader, I have realized that within the group process, I most fear the roles of a group leader that pertain to direct confrontation of a client, I also fear that the improper implementation of a intervention could lead to potential harm of the client. Attending to these fears I hold regarding group member confrontation, and intervention implementation is the key to gaining further understanding into how I can become comfortable with these essential functions of a group leader. The current paper will take a closer look into my vulnerabilities, using current research to gain insight into how I can overcome fears, when facilitating a task, psycho-educational, counseling, and psychotherapy group.
Group therapy has become a popular form of therapy lately; it used to be used more as a last option, but now group therapy is often the first or better choice for some clients. Group therapy can be helpful in an assortment of ways. Group counseling also helps individuals to feel a sense of belonging due to similar situations and experiences shared by the group. The sense of support from group members can be an excellent means towards developing long-lasting relationships and developing communication skills needed to move forward during the counseling phase. My smart goal is to manage my test anxiety and organization skills so that I can become more organized and a productive citizen in the future. Organization skills is one of the many qualities that employers look for in a job applicant. This skill helps them pick out a great candidate that has great organization skills as well as time management skills. This is one of the two skills that I would love to improve to keep myself organized and manage my stress and anxiety while testing under precarious circumstances.
This model is similar to socialization groups in that this model helps the clients build a report within the group and foster mutual aid networks that can be used as a tool for coping even after the group terminates. Unlike a socialization group this group also has another function and that is to help the clients gain valuable skills that will help them in life when they are experiencing a crisis or other issue that causes them emotional distress. This model is different from the remedial model because the reciprocal model is group focused and relays less on worker activity and more on group cohesiveness and mutual support to work through issues after a coping tool is learned. The worker would have regular contact with the clients but would enable and encourage the clients to look to one another in times of crisis for the solutions and help. I had several questions in my mind like this. Reading the textbook and the syllabus, I felt better. I thought this could be a good chance to discover myself, and I do not have to share anything that I want to keep. Reading Yalom's book, I actually agreed that group therapy is essential and helpful for some cases. It made me thinking that some people I know could benefit better from group therapy, so I should learn more about this and enjoy the simulation in the class.

When I set my SMART goal in order to increase my physical activity, the goal was to feel better about myself and to have a clearer mind so that I could do well with my studies this resulted in increasing my physical health and wellness. There were a few challenges of having to force myself to get out of bed even though I was feeling really anxious. I think when making a SMART goal and changing that particular behaviour there will be changes that need to be faced and overcome. These might include psychological, family and work commitments, health challenges and many other duties. Motivation and time management therefore need to be considered when making a SMART goal to make this possible and therefore can succeed in their new behaviour change.
For this to occur however, requires an understanding of culture and society, as well as governance and process. In addition, I have also understood the power of strength based approach, how strength based therapy used in relationships an essential factor among group members. I view this class as the opportunity to practice how effectively work with groups and individuals to understand their own inherent power. Therefore, I learned the way of using a strengths-based approach; I can highlight the assets of group members, offering building blocks which can then lay the foundation of their social change. Furthermore, I understand change could be a mutual process, so in group therapy until group members became comfortable with each other to share their experiences giving them space and later help them to engage in along with group process. Concepts In the first chapter, the therapeutic factors that stood out to me the most was instillation of hope. There is research that says most therapies operate through hope and conviction. Group therapists do all that they can to increase the patient’s belief and confidence in group therapy that works effectively. Also, it is important that therapists believe in themselves. The most important is that members learn from others who have similar problems how therapy can work for them in their life.
