Typically, the children would be grouped for small group work by age and/or developmental level, depending on what works best for the whole group. This would allow for experiences to be planned that are developmentally appropriate for that particular group of children. During play, children will have the opportunity to work with classmates of all developmental levels which will allow some the chance to model for their peers and allow others to learn from their peers. I would place materials in the classroom areas that would allow the children to build upon their current developmental level. Working with children in a group can show the practitioner what each child knows and learns from different activities, each child is different with their development, although children can help each other learn new and different things from working within a group.
On one visit throughout my community and common environment I was able to observe three separate groups. Within this paper I will describe each group individually provide detailed information regarding body language of the group individually.
Job Execution & Quality of Work- I rate Alicia a 2 due to some errors over the past year. On 10/09/2015 Alicia was given a deposit transaction to process in the amount $500.00. On 10/26/15, it was discovered this item was not processed. The transaction was found in Alicia’s work dated 10/09/15 and had in fact not been processed. Then 10/27/2015 Alicia received coaching and counseling on how to process her transactions as she had an unposted transaction for a customer. On 10/29/2015 Alicia was given a GL transaction to process in the amount $99.00. On 11/2/15, it was discovered this item was not processed. The transaction was found in Alicia’s work dated 10/29/15 and had in fact not been processed. Alicia does struggle with quality of work due to errors for example on 5/18/2016 teller suspense was off $540 due to Alicia not buying the money from the day before her teller drawer should have shown off. Then 8/27/2016 they were made out as 150900 instead of 1509001. Alicia have shown improvement but I feel she still have room for improvement the execution of her daily job and the quality of work.
There is also some personal play involved in their sociodramatic play. The children involved in the play worked to make a family having dinner, which is great example of how this will prepare them for One of the kids did not understand how turn on the stove and the stove top. Another kid taught the others how to season the food. Another kid thought that they should try to make something for the teachers in the gym. They worked together to make a cheeseburger and pizza.
Always need time to communicate with the parents either formal or informal so we can build trust and be cultural sensitive. We can also provide parents with support and education with whatever the child’s needs might be. For the children we help them understand the language and reasoning skills. Math and numbers can be taught is so many ways through play that the children won’t get stressed. Nature and science when we provide them with things that are naturally in their surroundings they get a chance to investigate. The recess project has become a well renowned program. The recess project's goal is to advocate structured play among today’s children. “Recess leaders help the older children on the playground become leaders themselves, guiding younger children as they learn how to juggle or make crafts or do Zumba, the dance like exercise regimen set to fast-paced music”(Paul Par 5) . This is important because recess leaders from the recess project felt the need to help the older children on the playground. Recess leaders proved that with guidance and structure the older children gain the responsibility to guide the younger children in complex activities. Structured play drives strategy and following directions because with structured play children are given a specific set of guidelines and rules. After receiving rules and guidelines it is then up to the child to go from there and play(Nelson Par 1). There are numerous activities involved with structured play. The varying activities teach children how to follow and understand directions. This also helps children complete tasks. The materials that the Group A participants will receive will include videos of petty crimes and traffic violations, photographs of crime scenes and arrests, and accounts of people who committed crimes and their explanations on why they did it. One of the organizations that I volunteered at for the majority amount of time was the Hands of Hope Childcare Center. This organization is nonprofit and Christian based. Majority of the items that have are used at this childcare center has been donated from its local community. The childcare center is available to the Oakland County community. They service children who have been subjected to poverty and abuse. This organization also provide help to their parents by providing shelter.
I am very much the type of person that prefers hard copies such as books, magazines, or newspapers so I started there. I looked at past textbooks I have used during my time in school and found two that were extremely helpful; the first titled Play, Learning and the Early Childhood Curriculum by Elizabeth Wood and Jan Attfield, and the second titled Crisis in the Kindergarten: Why Children Need to Play in School by Edward Miller and Joan Almon. After finding two books, I decided it was time to look on the Internet. Instead of using the normal Google search, I decided to use Google Scholar as a way to find dependable sources. I used the key words pay based learning, childcare, and teaching styles. From those key words alone I found many scholarly articles and experiment papers. One article I really liked was by Ageliki Nicolopoulou, a professor from Lehigh University located in Pennsylvania. What stuck out about her article was that she also used the text by Miller and Almon. Another source I reference in this paper is How Dramatic Play Can Enhance Learning by Marie E. Cecchini, which I quickly mentioned above. Dolores A. Steglin wrote the last article I used. Her article Making the Case for Play Policy: Research-Based Reasons to Support Play Based Environments was really helpful when I started to link the NAEYC Code’s and Early Childhood Educator Competencies to play based learning strategies. The children are put through different learning experiences and tasks, for the professionals to evaluate and observe their different development stages. All this helps to understand the children’s adult characteristics for future life as every child’s play experiences are crucial to their adult life.
The class I visited is comprised of 24 five and six year old children, a lead teacher and a ‘Para-Pro” who assists the teacher and provides support and guidance for the children. Within the classroom itself, there are 6 tables organized in the center of the room in a grid formation. Children have their own workspace at a shared table. Around the perimeter of the room are ‘centers’ where each day, the children work on tasks such as listening, story development, gross and fine motor skills, math, reading and other important skills that are needed to develop socially and academically. In several places on the walls, there are displays or ‘brag boards’ where children can post their work that they feel best represents their efforts. The walls are brightly decorated and are filled with pictures, letters, numbers and other basic elementary school information. It is energizing and interesting without being chaotic or overstimulating.
The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.
I attended a second grade class at Smallville Elementary on February 22, 2014; the class began promptly at 0855. There are 26 children in this second grade class. There are 15 male students and 11 female students. The student diversity is 2 Hispanics, 1 African-American, 1 East Indian, and 1 New Zealander (White but with an extreme accent). Three children were left-handed.

The students that I observed in the classroom were of middle to high school. I went to see 8th, freshman, 10th , and seniors classes, they seemed excited and very curious to why I was there. The middle school was more alive and rambunctious while I observed them. The High school kids were more relaxed, more comical. Some were paying attention while others seemed tuned out to the lecture or involved in socialization with friends within the class. By the end of the class Mr. Hasgil had restored the attention of everyone by using tactics such as history jeopardy with candy as the prize with the high school kids. In both he middle school and high school the kids were mostly Caucasian with a mixture of black, Asian , and Hispanic in the classes.
