I will be discussing about my reflection on the Six Week Group Content/Intervention Mid-term project and my internship. The assignment is on Psychoeducational and Counseling Groups for adolescents who are encountering dating violence from their partner. I will be discussing the paper and the critical knowledge that I obtained after completing the assignment.
This week I will start discussing the Six Week Group Content/Intervention Mid-term project assignment that is due today. It takes time and effort to do the research that is reliable sources for the paper. It is often hard when trying to finish the paper and deciding what is more important information from the journals or other sources. For example, I try not to utilize numerous direct quotes in my paper; however, sometimes I have several quotes throughout my paper. Also, I do a lot of citing due to when in doubt cite phrase. I feel like in order for the paper

to be adequate their needs to be evidence-based practice and information from other sources. I feel that the purpose of this assignment is to teach us about different populations and interventions/techniques that is utilize by therapist in their practice. Also, after completing this assignment, I obtained more knowledge about the adolescents and the effective therapeutic interventions, exercises, and handouts. I interned at St.
Bernard’s Behavioral Health in Jonesboro, AR is completely different location than where I grew up in McCrory, AR. I grew up in a small southern town about an hour and half from Jonesboro. I attended college at ASU-Beebe and graduated within two years with my basic. I transfer to ASU-Jonesboro where I graduated with a Bachelor in Social Work. Currently, I am in the Master in Social Work program. I had to adjust to the transition of moving from a small rural town to a bigger city. On the other hand, my internship consist of adult and geriatric populations. Previously, when I was an undergraduate I worked with the geriatric population only. I encounter the differences interning on the adult psychiatric unit versus the geriatric psychiatric unit. I observe the different interaction and became more familiar with certain diagnoses. As a clinician, I feel like it is crucial for the leader to be creative in the groups, know the appropriate therapeutic interventions for that population, and properly hand problems that might occur in the
group. In conclusion, I obtained knowledge about the adolescent population. I enjoyed doing my paper on the psychoeducational and counseling group among the adolescents. While doing the research, I became more aware of being creative in the sessions, critical aspects of being an effective group, and the do’s and do not’s in the groups. I will be graduating in May 2016, I feel like the professor for this course is preparing us for the workforce. For example, the assignment is beneficial to the students and getting feedback from the teacher will prepare us for practicing in the field. I enjoy doing hands on scenario in the classroom and receiving feedback after the presentation.
I knew I loved to help others but it was not until I was an emerging adult that I knew what my calling was. My devotion to improve the quality of life for those who are disadvantaged is one of the reasons I have chosen to pursue a Master’s in Social Work. After obtaining my masters, I plan on diversifying my masters by getting licensed and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I would like to study social work because I feel it will lead me directly to one of the most emotionally fulfilling careers available, as well as giving me the chance to combine helping people 's mental well being with their physical
Compassion, respect, empathy, and treating people with dignity are values I hold dear and have been brought up with and follow. When I was younger I thought as children do, that all children must be happy and have a safe place to live and a family who love them, however, as I got older I realised that this was not the case for many children. I felt a sense of injustice and realised then that I wanted to work in a job that helps care for children/young people and families, making sure their basic rights are met and they are safe. I feel that it has always been part of my personality to be a supportive, nurturing, caring and a community focused individual. Therefore it only seems natural for me to follow this instinctive sense of caring and
Exploration Passages is a program that many people have probably never heard of or even more, they never knew that this program exist. So what made me choose the Exploration Program? Honestly, my first choice was to take Exploration Prerequisites to complete my chemistry and physic courses that I have not taken during my high school year since I needed those courses to get into nursing or dentistry. I got a rejection letter and I was really sad about it. In that moment, I was not certain of what program I want to take anymore because, like I mention earlier, the programs I wanted to get into requires chemistry and physic. I realize that I was tired of Marie-Anne ( the adult school I attended to redo my French course ) and that I really wanted to attend college so I decided to explore other program to apply to. I came across Exploration Passages! While reading the description, it got my attention that this program will help me discover other program that would suit me and I really needed that since I have to rethink of a program to take. Other than that, as a college freshman, I had no clue how to be in college and how it is
When I began my education as an undergraduate student, my primary goal was to have a career in the criminal justice field. However, I chose to pursue a degree in social work because there would be more opportunities made available to me throughout this program at Central Connecticut State University. The Social Work program at CCSU required 680 hours of field experience, which included four 70-hour volunteer field placements and a 400-hour yearlong internship. When choosing my field experience settings, I made a conscious effort to work with a variety of populations to expand my knowledge-base and explore other possible areas of interest. It was through these field experiences that I developed an interest in Gerontology. I believe Fordham University will provide me the opportunity to cultivate this passion.
For my project, I have selected the project is the College Democrats Club, this club was chosen because of how active they are in the area, both inside and outside of Creighton. This club has regular meetings of at least once a week along with additional meetings with state representatives and other local political figures. Their goal is to provide students with an outlet to become knowledgeable and informed voters who are able to educate and create and environment based off of democratic values. Due to their activity in the communities they will be a prime community to map and will be able to provide the information for this project needed with great ease. I feel this is an appropriate community because of its ease of accessibility, agreed
Group therapy is considered one of the most resourceful forms of therapy. The benefits to group therapy can be both cost-effective and a great means of support (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2014). The process of experiencing ideas and viewpoints expressed by your peers allows group members to become more susceptible to the counseling procedure. Group counseling also helps individuals to feel a sense of belonging due to similar situations and experiences shared by the group. The sense of support from group members can be an excellent means towards developing long-lasting relationships and developing communication skills needed to move forward during the counseling phase. In this paper, I will discuss my experiences throughout the group-counseling phase.
The group couldn't seem to find time for us to meet and plan our presentation, the first and only time all group members were present to work on the presentation was on the morning of the presentation. We worked on it and at the time I believed we had agreed on our final product, I personally felt all the slides needed at this point was editing and final touches to make it visually appealing for the audience. I went online to the google presentation we were using as a group to prepare our presentation and was surprised to see a different layout, additional slides, and contents which were different from what we as a group had worked on and approved as the final work we were going to present. I confronted the group members as to the changes on the slides and we had a conflict of what our
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. During the meetings, we learn many concepts from the textbook, “Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices” by Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson. We were able to learn different types of concept in the textbook and utilized it as a team to complete certain tasks. The three concepts that impacted my team and I are human
While our first assignment was a group argument, the process was difficult at first, however, afterwards it was proved to me that it was more easy that what I had imaged it to be. Working in groups help in the development of my communication skills, however, I observed that I had many things to learn and the communication between my partners and me was truly necessary for the success and the completion of the argument. The argument was difficult to create and write, however, due to the work effort of all my partners and all their contribution to the writing of the argument it help me understand personally that we needed to work together. I would like to keep working with them, because, we have understood each other and now we have an idea of
This is only my third class in the Wilkes Instructional Media Program but I can say with certainty that it was the hardest. The class is about Project Based Learning so it only makes sense that part of it would be doing a project. But doing so on the computer with people you have not met and probably never will meet makes it hard. Add to that the fact you’re all teaching in different grade levels and you’re starting with two strikes against you before you even start. At least, that’s how I felt.
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to have an empathic relationship with my client, and gathering story and find the strength of my client is part of getting to know my client. This time I had set a realistic goal that my client can work toward without feeling that he is not in control of making the decision. The next is stage restoring finding what is not working now and trying to find an alternative that will work then take the action of letting the client go or
For this to occur however, requires an understanding of culture and society, as well as governance and process. In addition, I have also understood the power of strength based approach, how strength based therapy used in relationships an essential factor among group members. I view this class as the opportunity to practice how effectively work with groups and individuals to understand their own inherent power. Therefore, I learned the way of using a strengths-based approach; I can highlight the assets of group members, offering building blocks which can then lay the foundation of their social change. Furthermore, I understand change could be a mutual process, so in group therapy until group members became comfortable with each other to share their experiences giving them space and later help them to engage in along with group process. I also learn how to help in the facilitation of change, by asking open questions, validating, empathic and allowing them to feel what they are feeling, and empower them what they wants to do with their current
Throughout this group project, I had an opportunity to observe and reflect how my personality traits contributed to and hindered the success of the team. According to the Big Five Model, I identify myself as low on extroversion, moderate on neuroticism as well as openness and high on agreeableness and conscientiousness.
Throughout this term, my fellow classmates and I have had a chance to participate in a group project with two or three of our peers. The general topic was a vivid problem in a industry. Our class had a very wide and diverse sets of topics: from Styrofoam, to industrial hacking, to corruption in an influential international organization like FIFA, and so many more. Our group decided to develop a project named “Outsourcing and the price we pay for brands”. The name itselves is somewhat self-explanatory, however the problem is so much more complicated and interesting. In this paper, many struggles and concerns, of the group and of my my own, will be unfolded as I reflect the progress of this project.
