Scott Derrickson’s Sinister is a popular movie which is well-known by the public. It is
renowned for its extremely horrifying storyline. While not only being a horror flick, this film
belongs to the genre of thriller too. This movie is disturbing, as it is filled to the brim with
unusual killings, and also not forgetting the supernatural elements embedded in it. The director,
Scott Derrickson, who is notable for directing many popular horror films, wrote this screenplay
with the genius concept of using a “found footage” that he is sure will trigger the audiences’
curiosity. Derrickson has a really good skill set for horror. He loves the idea of elevating the
genre beyond the norm. The inspiration for Derrickson to film this movie happened when he had
a nightmare about going up into his attic and finding a box of Super 8 films about ghastly
murders. He had been noodling around with a story based on that ever since. The theme of this
movie is an unexpected one as no one would have foreseen something so serious to happen out
of something so small. The main character, Ellison Ostwalt, played by Ethan Hawke, relays the
theme really well in the movie. He is devoured by his drive and determination to return to his
professional glory that he unintentionally put himself and his loved ones in danger. Derrickson
uses selfishness as the theme to remind the audience how this attitude can lead to unpleasant
consequences. Ellison Ostwalt’s selfishness in the movie “Sinister” brought upon tragedy to his
family in various ways.
Ellison Ostwalt, a true crime writer, is on his last fumes of fame after his best-selling
book, “Kentucky Blood”. He is tired of not having as much popularity. As such, he is determined ...

this film. This movie teaches us to not be so self-centered but to show a more caring attitude to
the people surrounding us. Of course, it is important to always have the initiative to improvise
and improve in whatever we are doing and in this case, our career, but only to a certain extent.
Honesty is also very important as honesty and trust are one of the many fundamental principles
in maintaining a loving and caring family. As they say, honesty is the best policy. For instance,
Ellison lied to his wife and hid the information about the haunted house from his family. This
action has caused many consequences to all of them. Therefore, being honest is necessary too.
Sinister has conveyed the theme as a message to the audience of how important is it to not be so
self-conscious and to remain grounded and unselfish.
The tension is constant, there are thrills, there are terrifying scenes, there is humour, there's even a cover-up. There are few horror films in which you'll so identify with potential victims. Jaws had all the conventions, the killer, the hero and the death sequences, the only convention it lacked was blood and gore, certainly when compared to modern day horrors. If you compare Saw (2004) to Jaws, Saw uses a multitude of special effects not available to Spielberg. As a result I think Saw is more intense and scary. I find Saw horrific and appauling, whereas I found Jaws tense and gory and still classed as horror genre.
(Brinkema, 2015) This article vividly explains where the genre of horror came from and the visual culture it relates to.. This article has primary sources of data through the form an interview with Noel Carroll. “Carroll reflects on contemporary films, digital media, video games and televisual monsters, and the paradoxes, familiar and new, that govern his philosophy of horror today, a philosophy that, as it did 25 years ago, is still durably bound to the aesthetic.” (Brinkema, 2015) This research on aesthetic values was from past generations. The article was represented well explaining visual cultures of horror but it had too many examples to text rather than film. Which is what is being
Great movies come and bad movies go. Some stay seeded in the mind while others sink back into a quiet existence, never to be heard from again. Even though according to Jamie Weinman from the Maclean’s, “The disappointing fifth-place box-office opening of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World means that Universal probably shouldn't have spent $60 million on a Michael Cera movie” (78), Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is not one of the movies that needs to slide back into the hole from which it came. In fact, the near two hours goes by quite quickly with all the action involved. Based on the visual effects, music, and conflict quality, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is a cinematic masterpiece that is sure to become a classic.
When you’re honest about the things you do, you don’t have to carry burdens about lying. Being honest can lead you to being happy because you made the right the decision to begin with. Doing honest deeds are rewarded to the people who tell the
Anticipation, suspense, tension, excitement - these words come to mind when we think of the genre, Thriller. According to The Script Lab, thriller’s aim is “to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats” (Buffam, 2015). In these movies the main character, or the protagonist, is faced with a problem - whether it being a mystery, an escape or a mission. Just like every other genre in the film industry, Thrillers also contain a few sub-genres - but the main focus of every Thriller film out there it will always underline the menace that the hero faces.
The basic principles or ideas of the movie are the challenges of reading or misreading human
A Nightmare on Elm Street and all of the following six sequels fall into its own sub-genre of the teen slasher/stalker sub-genre as well, know as the Nightmare on Elm Street Series. This series of films adds a new dimension to the typical teen slasher/stalker film, depth of character and story.

Materialism is another recurring theme. The narrator mentions how he has worked his entire life for the cheap, bare-bones items in his apartment. He tried to fill the void in his life by buying worthless, meaningless stuff. Eventually, he finds that people spend too much time working on things that they truly do not need.
Honesty is a somewhat more complex idea that covers a broader range of requirements. Honesty is truthful, reliable, trustworthy, and open. It encompasses the virtues of truthfulness without the gaps. Being honest implies that you are willing to tell the truth at cost of personal risk. It implies being open and truthful no matter the conditions one faces. Real honesty means telling the truth out of respect for others and for oneself. Someone who is honest does not necessarily have to be asked in order to tell the truth; it is their standard of conduct and communication.
“We fight each other for territory; we kill each other over race, pride, and respect. We fight for what is ours. They think they’re winning by jumping me now, but soon they’re all going down, war has been declared.” Abuse, Pain, Violence, Racism and Hate fill the streets of Long Beach, California. Asians, Blacks, Whites and Hispanics filled Wilson High School; these students from different ethnic backgrounds faced gang problems from day to night. This movie contains five messages: people shouldn’t be judgmental because being open-minded allows people to know others, having compassion for a person can help people change their views in life, being a racist can only create hate, having the power of the human will/goodness to benefit humanity will cause a person to succeed at any cost and becoming educated helps bring out the intelligence of people.

Honesty means that we shouldn’t deceive others or take things that aren’t ours. It means following the rules, and if you break one, don’t try and deny it, just own your mistake and accept the consequence. Additionally, it is important to learn from those mistakes. If we all just hid our mistakes, we would never learn.
