The first vending machine was planted in London, Paris in the 1880s. Dispensing of bite size apples to postcards, vending machines were made to help people fill their 8 foot by 8 foot containers with knick knacks and accessible belongings. So why is it that now, when vending machines are becoming more and more popular, they are suddenly being pulled out of schools? Vending machines’ prime reason is to help others, so why are schools like Ereckson Middle School doing the complete opposite? Statistically, shown schools around America do carry vending machines. In 1st place comes high schools with 98% carrying vending machines. Most kids don't bring lunch to school and aren't allowed to leave the campus for lunch. So they think having a snack here or there isn’t bad but after eating it continuously you begin eating unhealthy foods.“Kids should have the choice to buy what they want out of vending machines, taking them away is kind of like taking away their freedom.” (Nguyen). Vending machines can also help schools with profit, by kids buying snacks it can help the school with money to buy new equipment and supplies. From personal experience, I can say that not having vending machines has affected certain kids that stay after school almost everyday. I, for one, can say that I have stayed after school many days throughout the fall semester.
