Should School Be Longer?
I do not think school should be longer, I think it is fine how it is. It has enough hours and kids learn about how much they should be learning. It is about 6 ½ hours of school.
One reason is if you make the school day longer kids won’t have enough time with their family. Which mean not as many memories and fun times. Kids need to enjoy their childhood and spend time with their family as much as they can. When they grow up they won’t have as much time as they used to.
The second reason is kids have after school activities like soccer, cheer, gymnastics, basketball etc. If they extend the school day the kids won’t get to do the activities. It affects with their after school life. Kids need to
Students test scores are slipping because of 4-day school weeks.I believe we shouldn’t have a 4-day school week because studies have shown that schools with 4-day school weeks test scores have declined in 2012 and even more in 2013.Teachers from every school with 4-day school weeks say that kids don’t pay attention because they add 30 minutes to each class time during the 4-day school week.Courtney Fisher is a second grade teacher. She says that the students seem tired all the time and eat much more in class.
There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times. IF schools started later we wouldn't have all these tired and groggy students coming to school we would have students that are refreshed and ready to learn. We will have students that have good grades. We will have students who have better test scores. And we will have students with overall better performance.I what you right now pick up your phone and call your district and say we want later start
Educators debate extending high school to five years because of increasing demands on students from employers and colleges to participate in extracurricular activities and community service in addition to having high grades. Some educators support extending high school to five years because they think students need more time to achieve all that is expected of them. Other educators do not support extending high school to five years because they think students would lose interest in school and attendance would drop in the fifth year. In my opinion high school should not be extended to five years. I believe that school should not be extended to five years because students would most certainly lose interest in it. High school is also a students own responsibility and if a student fails then that is their own mistake and should not get an extra year just to have an extra chance of getting better grades to get into college. My last reason is that there will be more student dropouts by the fifth year because of the loss in interest
The school systems are constantly changing. New ideas are being tossed back and forth between school boards all over the country. Now they’re tossing around the idea of having 4-day school weeks, rather than a normal 5 day school week. Some think it is a terrific idea, saves funding in the educational department. Others think that parents will have issues with it, having to deal with extra childcare cost, also how will the younger children deal with the longer school days. This issue will effect, not only parents, but teachers, school bus drivers, and students etc.
According to some school districts, "teachers and student absences have decreased with the four-day school week. The reason for the decrease in teachers and students' absences is logical because that one extra day will help them finish what they need to in the right amount of time. Another issue that can be prevented with a four day of school is the increasing drop out rate and disciplinary referrals in high school. Having disciplinary referrals can cause a bad impression on teachers and colleges.
Logically an extension to the school schedule would provide the schools with more federal money. Th...
Some people say that school times should not start later in the morning because there would be less time to complete other activities that they enjoy doing. One source says, “Starting school later means dismissing school later, which leaves fewer daylight hours for after-school activities” (O’Neill 21). This indicates that some believe that starting school later would be an unbeneficial sacrifice to take, just because they do not want to miss out on their favored extra-curricular activities. Another incorrect reason why people are convinced that schools should not begin later is because school districts would have to pay for more bus drivers, and they do not want to have to pay for these unnecessary expenses. O’Neill writes, “Later start times would mean some districts’ might have to invest in additional buses and drivers, which can be expensive” (O’Neill 21). This demonstrates that many school districts would rather keep the same start times for school than have to pay more for bus drivers. One final reason why people falsely believe that schools should not start later in the morning is because it helps teens learn life skills that they can put into use later in their existence. An excerpt from an article reads, “Being on time, managing a busy schedule, and getting enough sleep are important skills teens will need when they enter the workforce” (O’Neill 21). This quote reassures the fact that some people believe that learning important life skills is more relevant than getting enough sleep, even though a lack of sleep can cause teens to get unnecessary illnesses. Despite the fact that some people say that keeping school start times early in the morning is more advantageous than pushing the start times later, they are erroneous for numerous
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
One of the dissidvantages in that multi-track schedules can also be bad. Multi-track schedules can be a an organazational mess. "This schedule may seem like and effective use of space, but it is not. It can be an organazational nightmare for students, teachers, and parents"(Article 2, Para. 3). Students who participate in sports and clubs may miss games and meeting while they are on break. Although some people think that tax payers save more money by saving the cost of constructing new schools, they may end up paying more to maintain the current schools than to build new ones. Some people argue that the shorter breaks enable the students to remember more, but there is no data proving this. "While supporters contend that year-round schooling will improve students performance, little proof exists suggesting that this is the case"(Article 2, Para. 2). People in favor of year-round schooling also say that families have more time to got on vacations and family trips, but in the end it may be harder for parents to arrange these trips if they have kids in different schools or on a different shedule at the same school. "Parents who have children in different schools or on different tracks may find it difficult to arrange childcare or family trips"(Article 2, Para. 3). As year round schooling has its up sides to it, it also has many downsides to
Do you think that students should have longer lunch and recess time? I think that kids need free time to talk to their friends and socialize. Kids also need enough time to exercise everyday to keep them focused and their energy level low. Another reason they need to have a longer lunch/recess is because kids need time to eat and shouldn’t be rushed at lunch.
There are many benefits of switching to a four-day school schedule. On page 2 in the article, “Schools Give Extended Class Time a Longer Look” by Ledyard King Gannett News Service” it states, “Extending the school day or year costs millions and not many states have the resources to fund it.” What this means is that by having longer school days can cost a huge amount of money so having
Schools are so much a part of our society, so the accurate length of school days is extremely important. Public opinions on the length of the school days are different. There are a lot of parents and professors concerned that it is hard for children to go to school early in the morning and stay there the whole day. On the other side, some professors try to force students into a nine hour school day. Not so many years ago, school was a main part of my life, and the school days’ structure and length affected my social life and ability to study. From my own experience and some studies that I have seen, students benefit if school days are long.
Most children attend school for about 6.5 hours per day. Some people argue that this not enough time for children to master key concepts while others say that children spend too much time in school and on homework which leaves them little time for family or fun activities. “There are many benefits to year-round schooling—including consistency, less time spent relearning material, and the implications that year-round schooling has for closing the achievement gap” (Lynch, 2016, par. 1). Currently, more than 700 schools have extended their day. Massachusetts extended their school day so that it was 8 hours and found that they went up 44 percent in math,19 percent in science, and 39 percent in language arts (“Should students spend more time in
Should the school year be is a topic that has been under discussion for many years. Many believe that the school year is just fine while others may argue that it should be extended. Getting an education has become more demanding and there is also more information that students are to learn before entering the real world of college and life beyond. There are also many days that students have off such as holidays, breaks, and snow days.
student, in turn, will not do well with school work. The extra day of school would take away
