Should Music Be Allowed In School

We have all been in this situation; you walk into a classroom to take a test. You sit down and begin taking it, but you can not concentrate. Every little noise blends into a perfect symphony of distraction, the scratch of a pencil, the coughing, sneezing, and blowing of a sick individual, the muttering of a hushed conversation. It is in these situations that we all wish there something we could do to stop the madness. But there is something, right? Many different opinions exist on the topic of whether or not listening to music actually helps in school. Some people believe that music dristracts, disengages and disrupts students. Others believe that music is the only tutor a student will ever need as it calms, focuses and engages the student, creating a better learning environment. I agree with these individuals that listening to music while studying or doing schoolwork can have a positive effect on students.
Many people enrolled in school or classes today have a tendency to slack off in class and “zone out” due to boredom and lack of concentration. Music keeps students stay interested and focused. Danielle Flannigan, author of “Student's thoughts on listening to music in school”, states that “Music keeps the environment you are working in quieter because if everyone is listening to music they won't have time to talk to one another and create distractions.” Music not only keeps people from talking, but it drowns out all the distracting, little noises like the scratching of pencils writing, sick individuals with their bodily functions, and the small clicking of computor keys being pressed.
