Music
Music has been around since the beginning of time. Some Native Americans have done rituals that involve music and dancing. Our ancestors have made music with instruments that require materials that you would be able to obtain from animals and dead trees. Music started to boom when the radio came to be. It broadcasted lots of music that would be heard all around the world and for everyone to listen to. Music has been shaping the future for centuries and it has become very popular every time we hear it.
Music in this century is beginning to have more of an effect to people than ever before. It has evolved into calming and something that anyone can dance to. However, some music genres are becoming too provocative due to the lyrics being hateful to many things. But for some

people music became a way for them to cope and meditate to events that have a negative effect on them. There are many types of genres in music. The main genres are pop, rap, alternative, techno, and country. Pop is sort of based on feelings sometimes and it is made off of a beat. Rap is when someone is rapping to a beat. Alternative is my favorite, it has many types of things to it. Most of them are about feelings or expressing thoughts on something that happened to them. Techno is just musical sounds that create a good beat that you can dance to without having a certain dance to it. There are many types of music for different types of events.
In some cases, like a birthday party you would sing the happy birthday song to the birthday boy/girl. When you would attend a dance party, you would hear music that you would be able to dance to without knowing the dance moves to the song. The music will have a good beat to it and a good rhythm to it as well. At quinces, there will be music for the birthday girl and her father to dance to. It would be exciting for you at a quince because there will be a lot of dancing and singing going on at the party. For Christmas, there will be jolly music that would make you smile and know that it is the time for cheer and to be together with your family.
Music in my life is really has become a positive thing. I get to relax when I am stressed out, or it gets me pumped up before I do something that would be hard for me or that would need a lot of work for me to do. If I am studying, I would listen to music that is calming with lyrics or with a very good beat such as dubstep. When I am really stressed out with school, I like to lie down and listen to alternative music such as Fall Out Boy, Cage the Elephant, or Twenty One Pilots to calm me
down. Music in the world is very important. Many people use it to cope, relax, and drift away from all the problems that are in their life. The world should embrace music more so they can open up to the world and see what truly lays inside their mind. Some music can be relaxing and calm the mind so it can work stress free when times are rough. Other music can boost your adrenalin so you can accomplish more goals that seem to be difficult to achieve.
The Native American flute is the third oldest known musical instrument in the world, with bone flutes dating back over 60,000 years. The first instrument found were drums, then varies whistle were made. Over time, the instrument evolved with many different materials and shapes. And these difference and changes reflect the culture of that time. Virtually, flutes were used all types of hardwoods and softwoods in history. They had many different configurations, 2, 3, 4,5,6,7 or 8 holes. The flute we used in class is 6 holes, and we also saw many different flutes in class, someone smaller, someone larger, someone with 3 holes, etc. The oldest flutes we have were made from wing bones of a Griffon Vulture [1] and a Whooper Swan [2], as well as one from mammoth tusk ivory [3].
Native American music has many different musical styles. Within every Native American tribe there is a variety of musical styles and instruments. In response to the research that I have conducted, there are three main musical styles that are going to be my point of focus. The Sioux Grass Dance, the Zuni Lullaby, and the Iroquois Quiver Dance are the principal methods which contribute to Native American music.
Music is one of the most popular ways of expression and has been for generations. It makes us want to dance, inspires, soothes, relaxes, and sometimes tells us a story. Music is something the whole world shares and has brought together different kinds of people. However, there has been a question on whether some music has affected society negatively and crossed the line with some of its lyrics, content, and the persona of the artists. Certain music has been boycotted and even banned in the U.S. Pro-censorship supporters say that music is something that can deeply affect our society especially children who should not have to be subjected to things like violence, sex, drugs, or hate. However, being that music is a form of expression, censoring it would just be violating everyone's right to freedom of speech and expression.
Since the earliest days of human civilization music has been a key tool for communication of stories which carried emotions through them. If we think back to our youngest years of life music has surrounded us whether it was from our parents singing us lullabies or from some sort of toy that played music we can say that musical melodies have helped shape or lives one way or another. Once we start growing up and figuring out who we are our musical preferences change; some people like classical and some like punk. We start to befriend people who like the same music as us and eventually we may attend a musical event. Our lives somewhat revolve around the music that we listen to.
In chapter ten, author Bruno Nettle takes the reader to the town of Browning, Montana, where he is about to witness a modern Native American ceremony. As he observes, he notices that only one-half of the people there are actual Native Americans. The rest are are white tourists and innocent observers just like himself. Eventually, somewhere around eighteen singing groups appear from different tribes and reservations. They will be summoning the dancers into what is known as the grand entry. Nettle notices that the overall style of the music remains the same among all of the different groups, or `drums.' People are able to interact by taking pictures, video and tape recording what goes on. In that respect, the event is similar to a high school or local sporting event. Throughout this chapter the reader is introduced to many aspects of Native American music including: ceremonial traditions, musical areas, societies, unity and diversity, ideas about music, musical instruments, and aspects of history.
Music has been around sense the dawn of time. When man first started to discover music it was not the kind of music we have today. All it consisted of was grunts, moans, and banging things. Music has evolved just as much as the people that created it. From Chromagnum men to musician and from grunting too classical music, rock, and rap.
Music has always been a basic form of expression. From Antonin Dvorak, to Eminem, to even ancient, tribal music, it has been a medium through which individuals convey their thoughts and expressions. Today this medium is under attack. Everywhere we turn, everything we do and say is being scrutinized. We are being told what to say. We are being spoon-fed our emotions. No longer are we allowed to think freely, openly. All the censors out there are on the prowl for another piece to rip to shreds because it doesn't fit their description of what is decent and moral. What they fail to realize is that we don't make the music for them... We do it for release.
Music has been in existence for a very extensive time in human history, music has had a monumental impact on us. Music has a strong power to move our lives, and our minds. Music can change the way you think about something. Music can change the way you feel and alter your emotions. Music can be revolutionary, start...
Music is the third most important thing to me in life outside of god and my mom. Music keeps me balanced. Every since I was a baby music was played around me. Jazz was always played around me to soothe me. There would be times when I would be really hyper acting like I couldn't sleep, my mom would put on some jazz and I would be fine. A lot of times I can have a long chore and I say to my self how can I accomplish this, Knowing it will take me forever. So I'll put on some jazz music and in twenty-five minutes I'm finished.
Music has been around for many thousands of years, and it is found in every known culture, modern and old. There are many genres of music, greatly varying from times and places. It is believed that music may have started in Africa about 50,000 years ago, and that from there it has evolved to become a fundamental constituent of the human life. Music is used to express ideas, opinions, and feelings and just about anything that an individual would like to express. There are many things that influence music; some of these things are culture, economy, personal experiences, feelings, climate, crime and many others. Music is created by people called composers; these composers vary between periods in time and regions. Music has a very long history since it’s been around for so long.
For some people, music serves as a distraction, but this does not apply for everyone. It should also be recognized that music helps keep the brain relaxed, happy, and alert(“Listening to music while you study makes you smarter” par. 5). As stated in an article "Music and Learning" on thelearningweb.net website, "Music relaxes the mind and lowers stress levels that inhibit learning” (qtd. in Petersen par. 2).“Ms. JenniferEllingson, a teacher at Floyd Dryden Middle School says, "Music is the best thing ever created. Music can be relaxing, because it helps you forget about things that are stressful and help you to focus” (Petersen par. 3).
Music can have such a big effect on the mind and body especially slow, quiet, classical music. This type of music can slow the pulse and heart rate, lower your blood pressure, and decrease the level of stress hormones in your body. Singing or shouting along with the music you are listening to can also be a good way to release the weight on your shoulders. Sometimes just lying there listening to music while working on a very stressful project can help keep you focused and relaxed. Music is helpful in endless ways but, one of the many things it can do is bring people together.
Music creates the way you feel, and think. It is a huge social interest. If you go out with your friends, usually there will be music. It is a big impact on a teenage life. Think about dances, parties, and other social gatherings. It's turned into a new fashion. If your friends listen to a certain type of music, there is a high percentage that you will too. People treat music like a clothing brand; a product to brainwash large quantities of people . What happened to the real musicians? Where are they? Well I'll tell you. They are the ones sitting in the back alley of a rock concert, going unnoticed, until their dream is smashed and they give up the dream of being "company property", and they wake up. Why bother trying to grasp the media's attention? You will just become one of them: a money craving beast.
A survey that I conducted aimed at students and teachers revealed that seventy nine percent of them regularly listen to music while working. This indicated that other people besides me indulged in music listening whilst studying. Music has the ability to calm one down, leading to more conscientious studying, elevating ones mood, motivating one to stay focused and studying for longer periods of time. Many websites and articles I found show and prove that music in general can help with stress, anxiety, vision, speech, memory, sleep and depression.
Think back on a time when you experienced something stressful. How did you cope with it? Recall a time when you needed to relax. What did you use to help you? Chances are your answers involve music. The desire to play music while working, studying, or even relaxing is universal. Whether playing the music, singing along, or just listening, music can have many positive effects that aren’t often recognized. Music is unique in its ability to stimulate more than just one brain hemisphere, incorporating both the right and left sides of the brain. Because both sides of the brain are being affected, there are both creative and analytical benefits to making music part of daily routines. It’s no secret that listening to or playing music is enjoyable, but studies have proven that music can boost more than just your mood.
