An issue that is hotly debated in the world right now is if kids should play competitive sports or not. Some people would argue that sports are dangerous, or that they will cause stress and burnout, but in reality, the benefits of playing sports outweigh the reasons not to. One of the reasons that kids should play sports are that they will learn important life lessons such as how to cooperate with peers and how to manage time and have high self esteem. Another reason that kids should play competitive sports is that playing sports greatly reduces the risk of obesity in kids, and it motivates kids to eat healthier, so that they can succeed in the sport. The third reason that kids should play competitive sports is that it helps education in two ways. One is that if a kid is good enough at a sport, they can get a scholarship and go to college for free. The other reason is that studies have actually showed that kids who get more exercise do better in school. For these reasons, kids should play competitive sports. Kids who play on sports teams are 39 percent less likely to be obese than kids that don’t play sports at all. Kids who walked or biked to school at least 3 ½ days each week are 33 percent less likely to be obese than kids who never walk or bike to school. Some people would say that there are other, less risky ways to exercise and stay in shape, but studies show that sports are the most effective way to stay in shape, and they are more efficient than just working out. If kids play competitive sports, they are more likely to try to eat healthy, so they can stay in shape and be better at the sport that they are playing. These habits carry into adult life, even if people stop playing
