Today in society more kids are staying up all night doing homework and spending less time in outdoor activities. Why is it that? Could it be because of TV, or videos games or something else? What I have heard who attend Munster High School is “all we do is homework”, when they get home they do homework every day. Every day they sit down at the table to do homework. Doing too much homework and less activities can cause serious problems in a student’s life. According to scientists too much homework can cause “brain damage to student and multiple students have nervous breakdowns or too much stress” (google news). And other Study show that some student even talked about getting depressed because of all the homework in school and depression can even lead to suicide.” Therefor Munster High School should consider what is important to our life. We believe that Muster High School should give us less homework on a daily basis because too much can cause a great deal of stress, too much time is required to complete it, and it impacts our free time and sleep. In 1900-1913 Ladies’ Home Journal take up crusade against homework, enlisting doctor and parent who say it damages children health. According to Brian Gill, a senior social scientist at the Rand Corporation " during the 1930s, there were lots of graduate students in education schools around the country who were doing experiments that claimed to show that homework had no academic value - that kids who got homework didn't learn any more than kids who didn't"(Brian pg.1-19), and not only that but also Brian Gill urge that, there is evidence that kids are doing more homework than they did before. Example kids from ‘40s, did less homework that student today. The solution to this problem is assign as few homework question possible or we can create Longer School day. And increase in testing or
Most students believe that they have too much homework and not a sufficient time to finish it on time and it’s killing them. In these two essays “Too Much Homework, Too Little Time” by user name Laxdoublek on Teenink.com and “Satire: Homework Epidemic” by Ellen Keith of Medford High School, have many similarities and differences about the topic homework. Their essays are for everyone to realize just how much homework students in school are given. Keith does a better job getting her point across to the reader than Laxdoublek.
"I didn’t feel [stressed] until I was in my 30’s. It hurts my feelings that my daughter feels that way at eleven" (Ratnesar 313). This statement describes the intense issue facing the American Education System today. More and more students are spending a lot of out of school time on enormous amounts of homework. The overabundance of homework is putting pressure on the students, along with their parents. Our nation has steadily focused on after school studying to the point of possible exhaustion. In this paper, I will attempt to explain how educators are relying on homework as the major form of education, and how the amounts are too demanding on the students.
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
Everytime a kid does his homework, correctly, they are possibly advancing their knowledge and understanding of the subject at hand. Although, Alfie Kohn, author of the book “The Homework Myth” states, “Such policies sacrifice thoughtful instruction in order to achieve predictability, and they manage to do a disservice not only to students but, when imposed from above, to teachers as well” (Suhay). Not all homework will be beneficial. It can harm

Many parents are also bothered over the force of homework on the connection between their kids and teens.... ... middle of paper ... ... Think about how much homework we’ve done since we were in kindergarten, how many times we’ve stayed up and woke up half-awake, how many times we’ve kept others awake, and how much paper we’ve wasted. If you think that is a lot, think of all of the students around the world doing the same.
Although homework may seem like drudgery, the hard work that is put into homework may pay off in the long run. In the article, “Does homework really work for students?” Jacqueline Carey, the mother of seventh grade student Micah Carey, stated that “homework gives [students] a good foundation for when they move on further in school” (Johnson). Not only that but according to Donyall Dickey, principle at Murray Hill Middle School, “if students do not acquire things in class, they will acquire them through homework” (Johnson). As we can see homework helps and prepares us for higher grade levels while in primary school that can possibly prepare us for college. It also helps us to remember the materials that were taught in class. Another reason homework can be beneficial is the fact that it can prepare us for tests and the dreadful pop-quiz that a teacher may randomly give us. This fact was proven, according to a 2006 study by Harris Cooper, director of Duke University’s Program in education, in the article “Homework or Not? That is the (Research) Question”. The studies instituted that “students who had homework performed better on class tests compared to those who did not” (DeNisco). Another compelling thing about homework, are the qualities a skills th...
...f we learn in school will not ever be useful for life. For example, the quadratic formula would not be beneficial to someone who wants to become a professional basketball player when they grow up. Teenagers should not have to feel the pressure of being stressed about balancing activities in their life. Your teenage years are meant to make memories, not being forced inside doing work and jeopardizing your social life. We should not have to look back on our teenage years remembering the ridiculous amounts of work we were given but rather the eventful times we spent making memories with our friends. Instead, most of our memories are made during the weekdays, failing to balance school and sports. In conclusion, students will be less stressed and make the most out of their high school years if given less work and given a reasonable amount of time to complete assignments.
There is a war going on that many people do not know about. The homework supporters and the homework abolishers have been battling in the school system for many years. The focus of this battle is whether or not homework is needed. Although many feel that homework takes up too much time, research proves that homework improves life skills and increases learning outside of the classroom.
Some people think that kids should get seven hours but others think that kids should get no homework. A lot of kids are getting a least seven hours of homework each night, a lot kids are not getting any time to spend with their family. Kids should get less homework because, it overwhelms kids, they do not get enough time to spend with their family and they do not get enough time to play or to exercise. Homework overwhelms kids, If kids have too much homework then they get overwhelmed because they do not have enough time to do it. For example in the article “Down with Homework” it says, “parents are saying that they have to go to school for seven hours of the day and when they come home they have more than four hours of homework.
Should kids should have no or less homework? Homework can take up a lot of time and can affect what you want to do. its effects sports by not making it too practice on time or get home home late and have to do it when they get home and their health by not getting to bed in time and could get stressed out over work .
Homework is way to stressful for kids who already have enough to do at school, so why give them work to do at home that just adds on to the headache Known as work? Teachers give out homework because they think it is helping kids education. What they don’t know is that the work they are giving out just overwhelms students who don’t know how to do that work. It also means that some students could possibly be getting bad grades for things that they don’t understand. This is very important to my claim because if we have less homework none of these things will happen to students who don’t understand the topic. What can take more experienced students 5-10 minutes can take others longer time periods to complete the work given. giving students less homework you should receive better quality homework. That paragraph should
We all know the downfall of homework: the frustration and exhaustion, family conflict, time loss, and decreasing interest in learning. No study has ever demonstrated any academic achievement linked to assigning homework. There is also no support to the fact that homework provides nonacademic benefits at any age. Here are a few examples: building character, promoting self-discipline, or teaching good work habits. All teachers who assign homework want to believe that the gain outweighs the pain. Although, there is no evidence of that and they must rely on faith (“Homework: No Proven Benefits”, pg. 1). Michellea, a mother of a middle school student, says that some work can reinforce certain skills, but hours of homework are unhealthy and unproductive. Mominseattle agrees. She contemplates that such a heavy load can result in potential drawbacks to the students. Hours of homework a night plus a full day of school can be just as much work as an adult at a full-time job. She believes students should enjoy their childhood, as short as it already is. MagnetMom complains about how her daughter’s homework takes away her beneficial sleep. With busy families, like hers, they have many after school activities, so when they get home, they do not have time for too much homework. She says ...
High school student have to much homework The amount of homework in High School is overwhelming and should be reduced. How much homework do students have everyday what project or assignments are due the next day. Students spend up to three hours doing homework each night on top of going to work and doing chores at home, Students have sacrificed the friendships and relationships with friends to do homework. There is too much homework assigned each night.
I honestly think we should not have homework because school is long enough, family time is very important and kids have social activities like dance, sport and gym. With these reasons I will undoubtably convince you that we should not have homework at all. Firstly six hours of school is long enough for kids to work or study. Research from Leiden University show, that adults work similar hours to those of school children, and they come home exhausted. They find it difficult to understand that students find it hard to maintain concentration after a full day of school, while trying to complete at times hours of homework.
