I honestly think we should not have homework because school is long enough, family time is very important and kids have social activities like dance, sport and gym. With these reasons I will undoubtably convince you that we should not have homework at all. Firstly six hours of school is long enough for kids to work or study. Research from Leiden University show, that adults work similar hours to those of school children, and they come home exhausted. They find it difficult to understand that students find it hard to maintain concentration after a full day of school, while trying to complete at times hours of homework. With continuing demands on them, and excessive homework, getting up early, spending 6 hours at school and then to be expected to spend more time at home doing schoolwork is unacceptable. They are exhausted, stressed and unmotivated, …show more content…
Victoria University research shows, family time can bring benefits to a family such as happiness, togetherness and harmony. Spending time with family strengthens family ties. Also, families who enjoy group activities will develop can handle stressful situations with ease. In this busy day and age, it is a luxury for parents to spend time with their children. Making time for the family will allow you to teach your kids valuable life lessons like kindness and fairness. Also when parents come home they will be stressed and overworked rom work and so will children from school and family time will distress there mind. Family time will also create memories but if you do homework there will be no memories created. Consequently, kids will start to develop positive behaviours because loved ones influence them. A 2012 study reflected that children who ate regular meals with their families performed better in school. With this reason you can obviously see that younger children need time with there family instead of being in there room for a long period of time doing
A problem with elementary students having homework is that their parents end up doing it just to get it over with. According to today.com there was a rule established by the National Education Association that limits the amount of homework any age kid, especially elementary should have to do. This is called “the 10 minute rule.” Kindergarten students should not get homework but first graders gets 10 minutes, second graders gets 20 and so on. This rule has been broken by teachers giving kindergarten students almost as much homework as a third grader should have. Because this rule is so often broken, parents are forced to step in and help their kids so they don’t look back on their life as all I did was homework.
Homework is for suckers. Homework causes stress for students as well as for parents. Homework is extremely demanding and many students are spending far too many hours after school to complete their homework assignments. Although, some students may be able to whiz right through their homework, other students crawl along struggling at a snail’s pace. Consequently, family time is put on the back burner due to the time constraints of homework. Additionally, any extracurricular activities are also put on hold. Homework is nothing more than a scapegoat for teachers so that they can pawn off their due responsibilities on parents and students. Homework should be banned for students Kindergarten through 8th grade because the negative effects do not out weight the benefits that come from homework.
Many people seek employment, including teens like us. Sadly, having a job is just a dream for kids under 15 years old. Currently, there are very few jobs fourteen year olds can have. On school days (including friday), you are only allowed to work three hours. You do not get paid much money because of the minimum work hours allowed, which is seen as unfair from many people. What would employment at age fourteen do for us? Why do we need younger employees working?
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
Children go to school for seven hours a day, when teachers make them do homework it causes them to get stressed. Furthermore if children understand what they learned at school why do they need to repeat it at home? If children are struggling on a certain subject, teachers should be able to help them directly, not with homework because giving them homework on something they don't know anything about is counterproductive. Instead private tutoring could be something schools provide for failing students and not homework.
Stated scholastic.com. We should have a longer school day because we would not have homework. “It could be a homework period. They could get all their homework done if there is longer school days, and teachers wouldn’t worry so much about students not doing homework.” Stated debate.org.
Child Labor Laws today are very strict on what children of certain ages are allowed to complete, and what they are not allowed to do. Labor laws have not always been around, and often children had to work hard jobs, for long hours of the day. Back in time you would catch children, black, with dirt on their face, and under their finger nails. Their clothes were poor for the conditions they were working in, and their pay was terrible for the type of work. The article that was provided above, explains first hand some of the issues that one these child workers had to endure. Along with the article that was written, pictures were provided along. The three pieces of evidence, mostly work together to explain the same message, but can be a little confusing, when looking at all the details.
Kids should be able to get a job as young as 14. Have you ever been sitting at home on hot summer day, bored out of your mind. Well here’s your solution: get a job. Everyone has heard of getting a summer job but no one knows any real benefits to it other than making a little extra cash. However, getting a summer job can help in many ways.
Teachers and schools say 60 minutes a day is good, but how is all that possible with all the homework. So with all the homework kids can get really bad habits because of all the stress they have. Kids can get stressed from hard math and science problems and from not enough work done. Those kids rather stay inside because of their projects and homework, this can lead to staying up late. Schools say 8 hours of sleep is good, but often kids only get 6 or 5 hours of sleep because of projects.
Having family time can strengthen self esteem. It has been shown that kids and teens become more sociable, which can help them build relationships easier. Another outcome is that it can promote positive behavior. Debra Pachucki has stated in her article “How does Spending Time as a Family Affect Children” and quote “teens tend to do better in their studies and are less likely to engage in violent behavior if they have family meals together”. And while they are engaging with each other, they can discuss anything that is on their mind and can release stress.
This will help promote my side of the argument so that my side will be the superior argument and will attract more readers. I think kids should have less homework.Three reasons are, that homework is stressful, kids are given more homework than required, and it puts pressure on students causing them to work to hard and and have anxiety and health issues.
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
“You can do it!” , “Push yourself!”, “Work hard and get the job done””Come on, let's go!”, “You need to practice”, “Work harder”. These are just a few things that are said when a coach or a parent is watching you play your game. Every parent wants their child to do something active in their life at some point. Even if it is just golf or a sport that they do not have to do much activity in, they all want their child to participate.
But as Kristen Harding from My Family Care explains, spending quality time together is important – it helps our children to feel more confident and secure, builds stronger family bonds and is good for our own emotional health.
Time is a crucial factor in bridging communication gap between parents and children. Children feel important when their parents spend time with them. This is true because when little interaction is present between parents and children, children think and feel that their parents do not care about them. Children also feel important when their parents take time off from work to be with them because they feel that they are valued more than work. This problem is common among many families because many parents work day and night just to give their children a good future. As a result, parents have no more time for their children. Children on the other hand, may be appreciative of the financial support that their parents offer them but as much as children need money, they need their parents even more. Also, when quality time is spent each day together, relating to the attitude of each other becomes easier. Familiarity will be developed and eventually, if both parties make enough effort, a bond will be created between them. The experiences that they spent together may also establish memories that can be treasured in the future.
