Some people think that kids should get seven hours but others think that kids should get no homework. A lot of kids are getting a least seven hours of homework each night, a lot kids are not getting any time to spend with their family. Kids should get less homework because, it overwhelms kids, they do not get enough time to spend with their family and they do not get enough time to play or to exercise.
Homework overwhelms kids, If kids have too much homework then they get overwhelmed because they do not have enough time to do it. For example in the article “Down with Homework” it says, “parents are saying that they have to go to school for seven hours of the day and when they come home they have more than four hours of homework. They do not think that they should have to do this much work (kohn).” They are giving too much homework to the kids and when they have to do their homework they are getting

When kids get home and they have to do seven hours of homework that causes them to not to see their family (5 reason). Kids don't get enough time to spend with their family because of homework. Another reason is that they have to much to do, If they get home and they want to spend time with their family but they have to do homework that does not make them very happy at all. This shows kids like to play with their brothers and sisters but when they have homework they can not do that and it is not very fun doing seven hours of homework. The last reason is that it is hard to get kids to be able to sit down and do that much homework. A parent said that trying to get a 5 year-old after they just got home from seven hours at school to sit down and try to do homework is very difficult. That shows that after seven hour of school and trying to get an 5 year-old to do homework is not want parents want to be doing and arguing about all the time, every day after
All over the country, parents are fighting this issue and many schools have already taken action. “One-third of colleges in America have eliminated the SAT or modified its use. There is even a school in Wyoming that has abolished homework for K-5” (Levs). However, for society to follow these bold footsteps, the first task is to make people realize that stress on children due to overscheduling is a very serious problem and that the well-being and economic future of the US depends on addressing this issue. Secondly, there is no quick solution. What overwhelms people the most is the complexity of the problem and the need for a complete turnaround of society’s expectations. One college professor comments, “We have an opportunity to change how we conceive being successful, and it takes bravery. I mean, you’re swimming against pop culture” (Abeles). So, instead of ignoring the diversity amongst children by directing the focus toward the narrow group of high-achievers, express the importance of individuality. A bell curve illustrates that “smart” has many different meanings: children who are academically smart, those who are incredibly creative, and those who are totally
Some people would argue that homework should not stay in schools because it decreases the amount of family time. They say that when a child is doing homework, it decreases family time because that child is not involved in the family but the homework (“Teachers…”). This theory has been proven wrong; in fact homework actually increases family time. Family time increases by the encounter the parents and children have while doing homework. It brings them together by how the children ask for help on their homework (5). The child will ask their parent or siblings to help them, and that will spark the family time. The parents will try to help and will not stop till their child understand how to do it. While helping with their child’s homework the parents can ask how their day went, and how that certain class was. Engaging in conversation always increases family time. Not only will they get to talk to their children, the parents will be informed of their child’s studies and how good or bad they are doing in school. Which proves that homework increases family time.
Contrary to the popular belief of homework leading to parent and child bonding, research supports that it tears families apart. Fran Moriarty, in her article “Reasons Why Students Should Not Have Homework” explains that kids are upset, and “whining, crying, and disparaging remarks unsettle a peaceful home life” (1). With very little time to do anything other than schoolwork, kids often only see their parents for help in school. A leading figure in the field of education and human behavior, in his article “Down With Homework”, dictates that, “Many mothers and fathers spend ev...
Parents can annotate the time of their children completed to imply the teacher. If the homework is mechanical repetition, parents can let the children do not have to complete. Parents can write a letter to the teacher, caught in the unfinished job in explaining why the child is not completed, and tactful propose own proposals. Parents should never go to school leaders denounced at the teacher, so the teacher 's enthusiasm for the work will go out, let her slack work, not only detrimental to the child, but also undermines the harmonious relationship between parents and teachers. I believe the parents should not their kids on their homework because that way will lose the original significance of the
Everytime a kid does his homework, correctly, they are possibly advancing their knowledge and understanding of the subject at hand. Although, Alfie Kohn, author of the book “The Homework Myth” states, “Such policies sacrifice thoughtful instruction in order to achieve predictability, and they manage to do a disservice not only to students but, when imposed from above, to teachers as well” (Suhay). Not all homework will be beneficial. It can harm
...th mounds of work to be completed at home. It is unfair to expect students to pick up the slack for teachers who are not doing their jobs. Although homework can be used as a tool to reinforce, more often than not teachers are not using it this way, and in fact they are abusing this tool and it should be banned all together.
I meadow cruickshank think that we have way too much homework because every single teachers gives use a lot of it . And because i think that we need to get more sleep so are brains would be ready for the whole day . And we also don't need that much homework so we can go outside for so time after school and so we can watch movies with our family because the past some kids go at they don't get to watch movies with them and it is sad . Because we need to be with are family and be happy . homework is way to hard for kids .And becasue we need to have family time with our partens and other family members .And so we can hange out with are freinds after school in stead of doing homework i think we should we able to do it . And so we can aslo get are books done and other things like that .
Many parents are also bothered over the force of homework on the connection between their kids and teens.... ... middle of paper ... ... Think about how much homework we’ve done since we were in kindergarten, how many times we’ve stayed up and woke up half-awake, how many times we’ve kept others awake, and how much paper we’ve wasted. If you think that is a lot, think of all of the students around the world doing the same.
“So, is homework related to high academic success?” “At a national level, the answer is clearly no. Worldwide, homework is not associated with high national levels of academic achievement” (Homework 2). Kids do not get enough sleep because school starts too early and schools should start later for health benefits. Additionally, Teachers give too much homework which might cause kids to stay up late and not get enough sleep and cause health issues. If schools start late there’s less time for after school activities. Even though homework is to help learn and schools start early and end at a good time, schools should start later because kids do not get enough sleep and teachers give too much homework.
Imagine sitting in school for another two hours, there's no time for after school activities anymore and it's already six o’clock in the afternoon. Many schools are on the verge of going with a shorter day and this is just what students have always wanted. This is not just because students don't want to go to school, its because schools are disregarding the fact that almost all students are not getting enough sleep. Also schools ignore how students might not be able to complete homework and get to an activity.
Homework is way to stressful for kids who already have enough to do at school, so why give them work to do at home that just adds on to the headache Known as work? Teachers give out homework because they think it is helping kids education. What they don’t know is that the work they are giving out just overwhelms students who don’t know how to do that work. It also means that some students could possibly be getting bad grades for things that they don’t understand. This is very important to my claim because if we have less homework none of these things will happen to students who don’t understand the topic. What can take more experienced students 5-10 minutes can take others longer time periods to complete the work given. giving students less homework you should receive better quality homework. That paragraph should
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
I remember being a kid and wanting to get off school go home and relax, only to find out at the end of the day that my teacher was assigning two hours’ worth of homework after being in school for eight! First of all I felt completely devastated, second I felt very upset. I always thought it was completely unfair to have homework, I mean when will you get to be a kid right? Now as a parent I absolutely despise it when my daughter comes home with homework from school. Sometimes I will have made plans to go and have some mother daughter bonding time only to have my child come home with a packet due the next day. Bedtime in my household is 8:30pm, school lets out at around 3:30 pm, one hour of driving in traffic to get home, homework takes around 2hours to finish, so that puts us at 6:30pm for dinner time which usually takes another hour and a half leaving
Have you ever complained about having too much homework? Teens all around the world are constantly piled up with homework to do overnight, that teachers expect to be done the next day. I believe that this generation receives too much homework for three main reasons. Those being that too much homework causes illness, and each grade should have ten minutes per grade level a night, but others say it might test our knowledge.
First of all, Piling homework on children is not only stressful for children but parents too because it causes their children to stay up nights to finish and throughout that time they lose concentration. In his Article, Guy Winch points out that excessive amounts of homework can lead to children having development issues, “... children who are assigned hours of homework a day are often unable to engage in the kind of socializing and play that are essential for healthy child development. ”(Winch) This Quote shows that lots of homework is unhealthy for a child and their development leading to adulthood. If a child grows up not know how to be social, that could be a disadvantage and they could struggle if they are trying to get a job in a field that is stricting communication and the sad thing is , it
