First responders should get paid more if firefighters don't make enough money. Constantly risking their lives for the community and getting very little in return. Having this problem causes less and less fires every year. They cannot support a family of 53,000 dollars a year. This drives potential new recruits away. Many people look down on first responders jobs because school is not needed to be able to achieve this career. But society would not be able to function without firefighters. Life is drastically different and way more dangerous. People don't realize how important they are or think about them on a day-to-day basis, but they truly protect all of us. They risk and sacrifice themselves for people. Many firefighters get into this profession not …show more content…
While nine dollars may not be true to the Illinois wage for firefighters, somewhere in the United States a firefighter is only getting paid nine dollars to save a life. This should not be an acceptable first responders wage, no matter the state of employment or level of firefighter. All firefighters put their lives on the line at some point in time. It's only fair that they get paid a living wage. They took this issue to Congress because of the amount of wildfires they get in the West. They were not getting enough people to work as firefighters. Joe Biden temporarily raised pay for more than 11,300 federal wildland firefighters to at least $15 an hour, up from just $13. Firefighters then saw annual pay raises of $20,000 or 50% of a firefighter’s base pay”(Zanona). By the government raising pay, it helped people stay in that career. Having the government change the pay is the best answer to the pay issue because it ensures that firefighters around the country are getting paid what they deserve. Especially around the fire prone time of year. If they aren't paying enough, they have no one to put out all the wildfires that are happening in
But on the other hand, why should a person that hits or kicks a ball be paid as much as someone who saves lives. AFL players may have all this skill and everything else that some other people do not, but do they have the skill of saving lives on a day-to-day basis like a doctor does? Or do they have the skill of teaching children how to read and write like a teacher does? Yes, doctors are paid more but they do more as far as other people’s lives are concerned.
Firefighters, police officers, and military personal should be compensated more than other people because they risk their lives every day to keep citizens safe. It is never right just to view people as dollar signs because when you do this, you do not treat them like a humans and have no regard for their families. Taking both into consideration can account for the lack of resources while also understanding the emotional distress the families will go
College athletes are undoubtedly some of the hardest working people in the world. Not only are they living the life of an average student, they also have a strenuous schedule with their specific sport. One of the most discussed topics in the world of college athletics is whether or not student-athletes should be paid money for playing sports. The people who disagree with the idea have some good arguments to make. Primarily that the athletes get to go to school for free for playing sports. Another argument is that if student-athletes were to get paid then it would ruin the amateurism of college sports. People who are against paying the athletes do not want to see the young people become focused on money. “Paying student-athletes would dramatically shift their focus away from where it should be - gaining knowledge and skills for life after college” (Lewis and Williams). This is very understandable because one of the biggest reasons college sports are so popular is because the athletes play for school pride and for bragging rights. They play because they enjoy the game, not because it is their job. Most people that disagree with the idea of paying the athletes fail to realize what really goes on behind the scenes. At most Universities around the country the bulk of the income the school receives is brought in through the athletic programs. In fact the football and basketball teams usually bring in enough money to completely pay for the rest of the athletic programs all together. To get a better understanding of how much has changed in the world of college sports a little history must be learned.
People think athletes get paid too much, but firefighters put their life on the line and police officers do too.
The scholarships given to college athletes are not sufficient enough to sustain them throughout the year, which is why I believe they should get paid and receive benefits. Student athletes, especially football and basketball players, play a major role in generating revenue for schools, businesses, coaches and the players do not see a penny. College athletes often do not have money in their pockets for extra food, clothes, housing and extracurricular activities. They also can potentially get dropped from their teams due to injury, leaving them incapable of paying for college. College athletes should be treated like every other employee because they work hard, and make everyone but themselves a lot of money.
Similar to other debates, the argument for increased pay for first-responders is commonly challenged. For example, individuals claim that since it’s relatively facile to complete emergency medical technician (EMT) training that an increased salary is not a pressing issue. This is a valid argument because anyone who desires to become an EMT must be at least eighteen, as well as complete a course “with a textbook written at the fifth-grade level” (Why, 2017). Furthermore, since there is a surplus of individuals becoming first-responders, people assert that raising the pay would hurt the state governments. This is because states would then be spending much more on salaries for their copious government employees, rather than on other expenses.
The salaries of athletes are outrageously high proofing athletes are overpaid. While athletes are making millions just for playing a position for a professional sport. While the average firefighter makes 48,000 dollars per year and the president of the United States salary is 400,000 dollars. The 3 reasons athletes are overpaid and shouldn’t be payed as much are they get payed more than an army general that has served for 20 years, the players need to learn long term financial and social consequences, and others provide better services such as programmers, military service, firefighters and many more.
I think sports players should be payed more.I think this because football players can get injured and sometimes can’t play for the rest of his or her life.So they pay them more because when they get injured they will have to pay for the hospital expences. The soldiers dont get paid as much because they might be over seas and wont be able to use he money.
Should soldiers or athletes get paid more money? I say the soldiers should get paid more because they protect our country and plus too soldiers represent the United States. Athletes get paid more in a day than a soldier gets a year. The average salary the soldiers get in a year is 99,000. Soldiers don’t get that much like they should get. That's why they need to be paid more money.
A raise in the minimum wage is only a temporary solution to fixing the problems in the United States. The federal minimum wage was introduced in 1938, during the Great Depression, and has already been increased 22 times. There are already 19 states that pay their employees well over the federal minimum wage. The highest minimum wage in the United States is in Seattle, Washington, and is set at fifteen dollars an hour. Interestingly enough, if minimum wage followed inflation, then it would be set at $4.24 an hour, which means it is already $3.01 over that amount that it should technically be (James Sherk 2013). Continued increases of the minimum wage in the United States need to be stopped as it will result in devastating impacts on low-skilled
Today there are a lot of big questions in this world about one specific topic. The answer is even more important than maybe half of the questions, but there isn’t a correct answer to this question. It’s a belief and what you think question. This question is paid attention to by a lot of high school student athletes, but not only high school athletes but current college athletes. This question is maybe one of the reasons why a lot of college athletes leave college and go to the pros after just one year in college. The question is “should college athletes get paid?” A lot of people reading this right now have different opinions and views on this, and the question itself just pops. Well first I think college athletes getting paid would benefit them for the future and keep their head on the right track. Secondly we also have to think about a student athlete’s schedule. We still have to remember that they have to have money in their pockets and do things for themselves, but without money or time for a job how is this possible? It also puts them in a bad situation to start doing illegal things. Last but not least this doesn’t make them equal to the non-student athletes, because the people who don’t play sports have time to have a job and work for what they want. No one can give them a dime from the administration, but everyone at the campus has huge expectations from them, including the people they can’t even get a penny from. To me College athletes getting paid would help the athletes and make their college life easier.
The Problems of High School NIL Deals High school athletes are being paid thousands of dollars just by posting on social media, but how? High-profile student-athletes can sign contracts with brands, allowing the brand to use their name, image, and likeness (NIL). This allows the brand to make jerseys of the player, use his or her name for products, and pay them to promote their products by posting on social media. But high school athletes should not be paid NIL deals because athletes can get trapped into unfair contracts, very few athletes would benefit from it, and it would disrupt high school sports. One common opinion surrounding high school NIL deals is that high school athletes should not be paid because they can get trapped in unfair contracts.
Most athletes, coaches and trainers believe that playing sports gives you more confidence. No matter how good you are at a sport, having confidence can make all the difference when playing a sport. “While a lack of confidence can have a devastating effect on your performance,” if you have faith in your abilities, then you can bring your game to the next level (Five Ways for Athletes to Build Confidence). This means that when kids do sports, it will boost their confidence and it could potentially help them get a scholarship to college. Most high school athletes will want to get a college scholarship.
Men and women all work hard and sacrifice their entire lives for serving their country. In return they should receive something worth looking forward too. Whether it be raised combat pay or more benefits along with higher pay. Military pay is the exact same for every branch. Differences will be found when you increase in time enlisted and your rank.
What's the deal with reality television shows. For years they have dominated television, turning nobodies into millionaires and placing unrealistic dreams of fame in the minds of America’s youth. On the show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” the stars of the show act stupid, selfish, and disrespectful, yet still gained fame and fortune, making it seem okay to be a complete narcissist. Most of the people who are watching these shows don't know that they are mostly fabricated with cast reciting script and are edited for hours by producers before they air to increase drama and ratings. These shows are considered to be “reality” because the people they depict are real, not because the situations are real.
