When asked “Are elite sports people overpaid?” people have varied responses. Some people would agree with this and say ‘why should a person that hits or kicks a ball be paid as much as someone who saves lives or teaches children everyday? But on the other hand some would disagree and say that sports people are paid for their skills just like everybody else! These are both very good arguments.

People that say elite sports people are overpaid do not know what they are talking about as sports people are paid for their skills just like any other occupation or career. For example, a specialist doctor is paid over three-hundred thousand dollars a year, this is an astronomical amount! He is a highly respected member of the club and the community, especially amongst the indigenous contingent, where he has held seminars for them and has also started and urban hip hop record label to help some indigenous kids record their music as some cannot afford a proper studio and producer. With this silly little act, even if they were not his, it still had an affect on his career.

I do not believe that people opinions are ever going to change on this issue and it will always be an issue in society, but I myself believe that AFL players are not over paid.

Thank You.
