Parental leave is very important, it allows you to take time away from work to care for your children as needed. Most people use it after they have a new born, which is a great time to bond and attend to your responsibilities. Although it may be ideal, most “U.S. adults do not receive paid leave from their jobs to care for their young children,” (Santrock, 2017, p. 193). Similar to European countries, I believe people should be given paid leave. As a full-time worker, male or female, that’s been working for at least a year should have 6 months of paid time off. If they’ve been working less than a year, but more than 6 months, they should receive 2 months of paid time and 2 months of unpaid time. People working for less than a year, but more than 6 months, should also have 2 months paid and 2 months unpaid time off. This should apply to adoption, fostering, as well as actual child birth. My ideal child care experience would be having split time with the child/children, so that they are able to create bonds with both parents. Moms staying home with the children while dad works. Then they switch roles when dad gets home, dad now spends time with the baby to create a bond. If both parents are busy or working I think the child should go with a family member, at least until they are able to talk.
