Slow growth related to the economy is keeping many employers from hiring entry level positions.
Those men and women who were readying themselves for retirement have found much of their nest egg lost and are needing to work longer into their retirement age. This is slowing and even stopping advancement opportunities in many organizations.
Even though Brad is getting job interviews, the number of candidates for each job opening is

However, Chunming possesses a different approach on searching for a better life. Not only that, Chunming stresses the real meaning of “purpose” moving to the city. However, the difference with Chunming is, she does not only promote self-purpose to herself, but to other struggling Chinese workers as well. This is evident on the diaries she makes. On one of her diary, she states, “What’s important is: What kind of person do you want to become in the future? For what purpose have we traveled thousands of miles and left our homes behind to come out to work---To earn money! (68). Chunming using the word “we” suggests that she does not only speak for herself, but she encourages for Chinese workers to look for their purpose as well. For Chunming, without purpose means there is no point in moving to the city. This complicates her economic exigencies because say readers assume that she is feeling as though she lost her purpose---she can also go back to her diary for self-motivation which can lead to success. Therefore, her diary is a symbol for her bold imagination or even great ambitions. However, Chunming’s diary is not the only thing that defines her bold imagination. Trying to make her quality of life better, Chunming chose a different path to make money. Due to her impressive imagination, she started working for a company that requires selling hangers and molding parts. It is almost like
With an unstable business environment and competitive job market individuals are finding it more difficult to acquire or maintain a way of life they have been accustomed to. Unfortunately this change is occurring faster than society would like to believe or can keep up with. The days of working for one company until retirement is one of rarity. Technological advancements, global competition, lack of leadership and foresight all play a part in the instability of the job market. Company mergers, acquisitions, reorganization, hostile takeovers, and just going out of business can happen regardless of tenure, or years of service. Individuals who lack a degree will find themselves at a disadvantage if ever unemployed or looking for a promotion. With a growing rate of unemployment, and need for skilled labor, employers are more selective in their choice of potential candidates and may overlook a qualified individual for one that possesses a degree. Although this practice may seem unjust or short sighted, it happens everyday. How an individual accepts this reality and positions themselves for future marketability is the focus of this argument.
Companies have the never-ending task of interviewing, choosing and hiring employees. However, regardless of the repetitiveness and skill of a company's human resources department, choosing the right individual for a job is immensely challenging. Making the wrong decision can also be pricely (Small business, 2011). The employee selection process usually involves notification or advertising, analysing, screening, interviewing, testing then selecting the best applicable candidate. The employee selection process generally begins with a manager or boss commissioning human resources to fill a new or unfilled position. The manager must first decide what qualifications she desires in a job candidate. Review resumes and match each candidate's background to the job demands (Siop, 2012). Companies sometimes get hundreds of CVs for an ad. However, human resources may only examine a half dozen. During dreadful economic stages, a number of candidates may have an education and experience that exceed the qualifications for the job. The employment selection process may actually include a screening interview, notably if a job candidate lives out of town. Human resources will usually perform the screening interview over the telephone. A telephone interview also helps a company determine if the candidate has the necessary qualifications to warrant flying him in for an interview. The employee selection case can also
In general, migrant workers are faced with many inequalities compared to other Chinese citizens. Even though they contribute to the cities that they work in by helping to improve economies, they are often segregated from the general population (Kuang and Liu 2012). Migrant workers are much less likely to own a...
- The labour market is over-regulated, which provides an incentive for employers not to hire.
On top of all the expenses, the employees have to juggle in their life, retirement funds create the most stress. More and more people are delaying their retirement because they are worried they cannot support their life during retirement. With the life expectancy increasing, and health care expenses rising, retirement would jeopardize the stability of life. The increase of the aged population in the workforce also means that young college graduates would have a difficult time finding a job. In this memo, I have laid out some suggestions on how we can change to fit into the retirement industry in the future.
Likewise, allowing a more gradual transition into retirement will become more important, other studies indicate. The more control workers feel they have regarding retirement decisions, the more likely they are to be satisfied and productive in their work.
In order to excel in today’s neck-to-neck competitive working environment, it is very important that one adapts to a more active approach instead of a passive approach when it comes to career development. Additionally, with the growing social networking sites such as LinkedIn or the increasing popularity of job search websites such as Indeed.com, Monster.com, and Simplyhired.com, has led to a greater need to be more proactive in terms of career enhancement. Unlike old days when jobs were more secured and provided less fluidity of moving literally in their designated departments, these days workers face a more dynamic working environment. Furthermore, in our current information based era, almost every job opportunity
Therefore, there is a very large amount of people who want a job and because of the high unemployment rate, a large amount of people are actively seeking work, but there is only a small amount of people who are successful at finding a job. When the unemployment rate rises, the number of people who quit goes down. As a result, this makes it even harder for those people who are actively searching for a job to actually find work because of the fact that there are fewer people quitting or leaving their place of
The looming problem is Baby Boomers, those people born from 1946 to 1964. And while numerous members of that that generation tends to be overachievers and workaholics; they will be both ready, and to a great extent scared, to retire. They are scared since, as mentioned previously, they have been told for several years now that Social Security will run out of money in 2034. The truth is that Social Security still takes in more than it pays out, but soon that will change and the surplus will be used to pay beneficiaries. The year 2034 is supposed to mark the year that surplus runs out.
Limit the number of people applied for the vacant job, through choosing only the more eligible candidates, to pass to the next step (interview). Thus, the interviewer can focus on different types of questions that may be very tricky and complicated.
While having the right skills for employment is imperative to obtaining a decent job. Displaying your job skills in America’s competitive job market can be challenging. One stigma can be perceived that long-term jobless people have been sitting around and not really wanting to work. (Daly, Hobijn, and Kwok 2015) Or the perception that they would not take a lower paying job, and if they do, they will leave as soon as they find a higher paying one. Some companies have clearly barred the underemployed or long-term unemployed from certa...
