In the setting of organizations, leadership is a quintessential part of the company’s success on any level. The reason why leadership is paramount in an organization is because leaders will influence, motivate, and enable fellow employees to be effective and efficient workers. There are a few ways these qualities can be passed down, either through training, conversation, or even by giving moral support. However, a leader does not have to be solely a position, if you will, but rather a role within the company. One of the categories that examines the success of leadership when it is applied as a role is shared leadership. Through research, it has been discovered that organizations will perform better and be more successful when all employees …show more content…
In high school, I worked for Dairy Queen, even though this is not a large corporation, it mimics to a degree what would happen in a large corporation. While working at DQ, there was very little overhead when working, we had a manager typically on shift, but he could not always micromanage all 15-20 of us. Therefore, the company depended on shared leadership. Most of the experienced workers would help train the new comers, teaching them all the tasks they would be responsible for, directing them on how to be more efficient, and reminding them that this wasn’t the end of the world so there is no need to over stress the job. Besides this, if one person was not working on orders, he would typically help alleviate some of the work from the other person in the kitchen. The main point of this anecdote is that we learned to manage ourselves, along with lending a hand to others when they needed the help rather than just letting them struggle with the …show more content…
As the name might imply, task-oriented leadership is more about creating tasks, setting deadlines, and making sure that the task is performed. Even though this leadership style is effective, it can become dehumanizing, therefore people-oriented leadership compliments task-oriented leadership well. People-oriented leaders will listen to employees on their opinions about how a task can become more effective, how to make the work environment more friendly, and in return will try to implement solutions to the employees concerns. This can help a company because it makes the employees feel important and allows employees to be recognized for their good work and ideas. When one combines the transformational and managerial leadership, this is known as path-goal leadership theory. In this theory, the leader would choose which type of leadership skills to display given a certain situation. It is also important to point out that a leader will have a preferred method that he/she will want to display more often than others. This theory resonates will me for two reasons, one, I personally think this is the best method, and second, it covers some areas that either a straight forward transformational leader or managerial leader might miss due to lack of
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
In my own experience leadership is not just about one person telling others what to do; it’s about more than just giving orders. It is about getting a group of people to work together towards a common goal with more than just the goal in mind. It is also not just about setting goals for the group but also setting personal goals for the individual, guiding and supporting them all
The idea of what’s morally right and wrong changes within each culture whether an organizational culture or between individuals. However, the best leaders are the ones who do what’s right and best for the organization. During this research paper I will attempt to define the term leadership style and its concept. Moreover, I will attempt to describe three leadership styles, the development and the process one would follow to modify their leadership style. When pertaining to myself, I never saw myself as a leader but I will attempt to describe my leadership style and the advantages and disadvantage I would have in a business environment.
Leadership is not a position but an action that is undertaken by an individual. Leadership is not just about giving orders, yet it is the action of serving others. According to Robert Townsend, “A leader is not an administrator who loves to run others, but someone who carries water for his people so that they can get on with their jobs” (2013). A good leader will support his or hers employees because a leader is not judged on their own actions, but they are judge on the success of those that they support. In the modern era, we look at business leaders in the same way that historians view military commanders or kings of the past.
In transformation style, leadership style best for working but not effective. The process of the leadership style inspires and motivates employees to complete the work.
The leadership is a privilege and it is such a privilege and an honor which will carry the tremendous responsibility which will inspire others to direct them to accomplish goals and vision of the organization. Leadership is about influencing the people, by producing direction, purpose and motivating in order to accomplish the mission, vision and improving the organization. The leadership philosophy is evolved based on the experiences, both positive and negative, in most of the initiatives and activities that we undertake. It is also one among the collaboration and teamwork within which the team members can utilize each other’s strengths to counter the weaknesses of the individuals. By observing, introspecting and experimenting we can developed a leadership paradigm which is inclusive, collaborative and proactive. We can develop the ability to recognize which will approach in order to reach the productive conclusion. The great leaders know their limitations and are capable at utilize their strengths and also the strengths of others to compensate.
Discuss the role of leadership and how it can impact organizational performance. The role of leadership is the most important part of an organization. Leadership is having the ability to influence people to trust, believe and follow the vision. There are several different types of leadership styles such as transactional, leader- member exchange, and authentic to name a few. Transactional leadership appeal to an employee’s self-interest which involves motivation in some way to get the employee to do what is needed. This leader mostly deals with employees achieving a goal, then being rewarded for accomplishments. “Leader-member exchange suggests that leaders develop different relationships with each of their subordinates through a series of work-related transactions.” (Hellriegel and Slocum, 2011, p.323) This leadership is a type of bonding between leader and employee or obligation to each other. Authentic leadership deals with a person’s knowledge of self, their beliefs, values, and acting on a clear faith system through honesty and communication with employees. This leadership is more personal than the others because it pulls from an individuals’ personal belief value system.
Presently, most organizations emphasize extremely about leadership in organizations. Leadership means that ability, capability, and skills of leader to guide members of organizations to success or achieve objectives and destination. Leadership studies are interesting in several organizations. According to Walters (2009), “Leadership has been an intriguing and important part of human interactions for as long as people have lived and worked together in groups” (P.1). Some organizations have studied about leadership for long times to know what elements and significant factors of leadership is. Those elements will help leaders to have ability, capability, and skills to suggest members of organizations or being leaders efficiently.
In conclusion, transactional and transformational leadership can be merged or used individually depending on various circumstances. However, they are partially correlated. In order to make the best use and get the desirable results out of these principles, leaders should attain a deep understanding of each theory as they are dissimilar in conducting. Moreover, an appropriate balance should be considered if leaders aim to integrate them together. In my point of view, either stand alone or combination usage would benefit to any organizations if the application of leaders was taken in proper situations.
Leadership can be important to the management which it can help to a max efficiency and to achieve goals. The following points justify to the importance of leadership.
”Leadership involves the exhibition of style or behavior by managers or supervisors while dealing with subordinates; leadership is a critical determinant of the employees ' actions toward the achievement of the organizational goals” (Saeed, Almas, Anis-ul-Haq, & Niazi, 2014). However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
It is not possible to only use one type of leadership style. I need to learn to read situations better which will allow me to adapt my leadership style accordingly. It is also important to consider the individual follower when determining whether to be more task-oriented or relationship-oriented. As I found out from the experience I explained above, people’s day-to-day mindsets and feelings should be taken into consideration in order to be the most successful. It is impossible to always come to the correct conclusion on how to approach a situation, but taking the time to consider it is guaranteed to reduce the likelihood of making the wrong
