Ever since I could remember, I've always had a passion for fashion and design. My grandmother was a seamstress in Mexico, and she is the person who taught me to sew by hand and take measurements. As a child I used old clothes and scrap of fabrics that she would send me, to make new clothes for my dolls. As I got older, I saved as much money as I could to buy a sewing machine. Little did I know sewing machines cost more than ten dollars. So for my birthday I begged my mom to buy me one, and luckily she did I would still make my doll’s clothes, but decided to take on the new challenge of upscaling the size of my clothes. I've been an avid club member for 3 years, Vice President in 11th grade, and President in 12th grade. By being a part of this club, I've improved my communication skills while also being able to show initiative when the former president was not around. Being a member of this club is what helped kickstart my new hobby which is upcycling. We had to bring in any article of clothing that we haven’t worn in a long time and give it a new life; just how joining the Fashion Club gave me a new life. I've dedicated 100% of my time when I am not focused on my academics, to this club and I don't regret any of it. Fashion club also allowed me to do something I love, which is giving back to people who are less fortunate. This year I created a donation clothing drive that not only the members of fashion club could donate, but as well as my fellow classmates and even the faculty and staff. By getting the school to rally up for a greater cause we can help the about 58,790 homeless people living in Los Angeles alone and less fortunate living in Southern
