My decision to attend Lemoore Middle College High School served as the first step towards reaching the goals I have set for myself. This school provided the opportunity to participate in high school and college classes simultaneously. Beginning freshman year, I immediately took advantage of this amazing opportunity and began taking college courses, both online and in class. As expected for a high school freshman, the rigor of both college and charter high school course was much more than I could have anticipated. However, I successfully managed the situation by using the techniques taught in AVID. From freshman year to this very moment, I have participated in AVID. Through this course, I have gained and demonstrated a solid understanding of …show more content…
Psychology allows me to express my analytical ability in a helpful way that can lead to a more productive society. Prior to high school, there were few chances to be exposed to psychology, thus, I took the opportunity when it presented itself. I participated in multiple college level psychology courses.I have taken everything from personal to behavioral psychology and plan to continue by taking cognitive psychology next semester. This interest in this subject has definitely influenced my choice regarding the major I hope to pursue, as I plan to major in psychology. When I was about nine years old my mother developed an alcohol addiction. As a matter of fact alcoholism runs in the family. Despite knowing the pain and strife she caused to those she loved, the behaviors persisted. The desire to understand the way the mind functions and the reasons people commit certain actions further increased my interest in the field. Taking advantage of the resources my school provided, psychology served as a potential pathway that allows me to better understand humans as a whole and contribute to the betterment of those …show more content…
After her required surgery, my family and I would take turns staying home to care for her. In some cases, I would leave school early or not go to school at all. There were many tasks she was unable to perform and I helped to ensure her wellbeing. In my junior year of high school, I organized and conducted a community service project at the Valley Children's Hospital. At this particular hospital, there are many extremely young patients with life threatening illnesses. My goal going into the hospitals was to simply interact with the kids and help take things off their minds at least for a short time (e.g perform music, play games, paint, etc.). I got the opportunity to see the strength of these kids who manage to keep a positive outlook despite the current forlorn situation. Investing time to discover the true impact that these disabilities or diseases may have on the kids provided a better understanding of the influence leadership can have on an individual. Currently, I am organizing a Christmas dinner event for the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault at the Kings Community Action Organization Women’s Shelter. The primary purpose is to provide joy to those who have greatly suffered. Leadership is a simple quality that can reap multiple positive
The career that I decided to pursue when I came to college is Clinical psychology. This camp is designed for children who have limb deficiencies or amputations be able to come together for a week of endless excitement and fun. I was lucky enough to have eight girls ranging from six to nine years old in my cabin. It was my responsibility to be a leader to these girls, show them encouragement, boost their self-esteem and never let them give up despite of circumstances. Throughout the duration of this camp I truly learned how to be leader and how to exert a calmness in stressful situations that is able to reinforce sincerity and serenity. I left the camp feeling more blessed than I could have ever imagined. These children were able to teach me things that I will forever hold close and that I am confident will make me a strong
When I first started college I was a psychology major. The more psychology related classes I took the more I realized that it was not what I wanted to major in. I took a social work class just to see how I would like it and I love it ! Every time I went to class I felt like I could make a difference and help others. Even though I could of made a difference by helping others by getting a psychology degree, I realized that my true passion was to be a social worker.
My first semester in college, I took a Psychology 101 course and immediately knew I wanted to work in this field. I was drawn into different theories and how individual’s minds work. I always believed I was born to help others and guide them to success in life. I desire to help others because of my own personal struggles with mental illness. My unique perspective on mental illness allows me to empathize on a different level with individuals. I desire to give back and support to the community the way it was there for me during my dark times. I was lucky to have known from the start that psychology was my interest. I am excited to continue my education in the counseling field and become a future Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
I would like to have a career in Psychology because most things about it interest me. I am not sure exactly which field of it I would like to major in but I have an Idea. There is about 170,000 psychologist jobs in the united states, so It sounds like its a reasonable field to find a job I am happy with. I realized that I wanted to have a career in psychology when I first started my psychology class in high school. Everything we were doing just interested me, it made me want to pay attention to what we were doing and really try to learn the materials. College will take me around seven to ten years to complete, I am going to major in Psychology with a minor or double major in Criminal Justice.
My chosen major is Psychology and Pre-Law. Psychology is defined as the study of the mind and behavior and how someone or a group of people think. I chose Psychology because during my middle school and high school years, I always studied how people would act and was always able to identify certain events or actions that trigger someone 's emotions or behavior to change. Most of the people I used to study was the people I had class with because most of them I saw every day and known them throughout my middle and high school years. Over the years, I learn the things that triggered changes in their attitude and behavior. I was able to identify when one of them was angry. When one was upset and didn 't want to bet bother and when one wanted to fight someone. After awhile, I realized that if I can be able to understand my classmates, then I know I can understand and help people as my career profession.
Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior and translates as science of the soul. It is the study of human behavior and deals with how we think, feel, and act. Some areas of psychology are clinical, industrial, physiological, experimental, personality, social, and developmental. Psychologists can work in hospitals, schools, rehabilitation facilities, in public and private clinics or in the research field. They usually treat persons with mental and emotional disorders, so one may ask; why bother with psychology if you do not want to actually work as a psychologist? Even though it happens that i do want to study psychology, this year that i was introduced to it,i discovered that even if i wanted to study something entirely different, psychology would still be useful to me. So when studying psychology, you learn about human nature. This means that psychology actually has impact on every aspect in life. It helps see through the motives other people too have more importantly, it will help you to understand your own motives better. As a result
High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
Knowing psychology can help you in your everyday life. I believe that you are able to apply it to many situations and make it the best you can. I really look forward to earning more in depth about many of these topics in psychology, especially social psychology.
In this assignment, it was requested to imagine our future lives, and to reflect those thoughts into paper. As I researched various roles I could take upon in the educational system, I realized I could fulfill those dreams if I set my mind to it. Therefore, it was great to imagine what life I could have career wise. I will be graduating C.W. Post with honors, as the president of the honor society. After gradation, I would use my connections through the school, such as professors, administration, and/or the director of the counseling department. In a perfect world, my connections would lead me to my first job as an elementary counselor in Pennsylvania. It has been my dream to certified school counselor in the Pennslyvania area. The internship
One topic I enjoyed in this class was social interaction and social structure. Social interaction is how we interact with others in the world. Social structure is our status in the world. The one thing that stood out to me was the three different statuses. Ascribed status is a part of us, something that will never go away. My ascribed status is that I am an African American woman. Achieved status is the things we accomplish in life and put effort into. These are the things we freely do. My achieved status would be when I was in High School and I volunteered to mentor small kids at an elementary school. Also when I help my Aunt every year with grading her papers and helping her teach at her school. Master status is the status that makes up your
Through answering the assigned thought-provoking questions, I was able to not only learn more about my personality, but I also learned how my specific traits cab be a benefit to my personal as well as my professional growth. The questions required me to take a deeper look into my personality, triggers and motivators which provided me a better understanding of how I operate. In order to continue improving in my professional and personal life, I must continue to grow and hone my communication skills, leadership skills, understand what stressors affect me and much more. The insight that is reviewed in this project report offers an insight that I do have flaws and weaknesses and certain aspects of my personality must be addressed and maintained.
Psychology deals with the study of mental processes and a variety of behaviors. In order to fully comprehend ourselves, we need to understand the causes of our behaviors and our outlook on life. Habits and behaviors have positive and negative effects in our life. When we know ourselves and learn about our unique personality, we can develop and pursue goals. Psychology also helps us to understand other people and the differences of people. Gaining this knowledge can improve the relationships and enhance our communication skills. Throughout the psychology course I gained knowledge in various areas, and the topics that impacted me the most included: the introvert, anxiety disorders, stress management, self discipline and how to develop strong relationships.
Writing a reflection and a summary of dozens of experiences is very challenging and demanding. I cannot count how many ups I had, yet I cannot deny the fact that I had some downs where I could transform them to ups. The year was full of challenges, excitement, fear and lessons. Each Wednesday I had mixed emotions. Every time I came to school I had the same fear and heartbreaks. In my reflection I am willing to compare between Adan at the beginning of the year and new Adan I became.
