I have had a passion for helping people for as long as I can remember. I think that the earliest influence that I had was my dad. My dad is a very giving and sweet person. He is the kind of person to give you the shirt on his back. It always seemed like he was the happiest when he was helping others and trying to make there life easier, I saw this at a very young age and it inspired my love for helping others. Seeing others in need was also a big influence in wanting to be a social worker. As I was growing up I have always been bothered when I saw an excessively poor family or saw someone that was homeless. I would always wonder about what I could do to help them when I grew up. I have grown up with my desire to make a difference in others life and I truly believe that by becoming a social worker I can achieve that. When I first started college I was a psychology major. The more psychology related classes I took the more I realized that it was not what I wanted to major in. I took a social work class just to see how I would like it and I love it ! Every time I went to class I felt like I could make a difference and help others. Even though I could of made a difference by helping others by getting a psychology degree, I realized that my true passion was to be a social worker. I think that the fact that when I was young my family lived in poverty affected me. We did not live in severe poverty but we were more poor than everyone we knew. Luckily my dad got a better job and we moved to a better neighborhood. During that time I got just a taste of what it was like to live in poverty. That made me appreciate not only how lucky I was and helped me realize how people that are poverty stricken feel. 2. I think that one of the bigges... ... middle of paper ... ...ying on my lunch break to working double shifts to have more time to study on other days . Like I mentioned earlier, I also volunteer and do extra-circular activities for my work. Despite this I have always done well in my social works classes and classes related to the field . This is because I know how to use my spare time effective. I also work well under pressure , and this allows me to use my limited free time well. In addition to everything in my schedule I am also learning how to speak Spanish. I am also learning basic conversational words and phrases in Mandarin Chinese and Tagalog (Fillipino). Time restrictions will not effect how well I can preform because I have a deep desire to learn and help as much as I can. If I can use my time to effectively to learn a new languages it will help me converse with clients easier and me me feel more relatable to them.
