Do School Lunches Have a Negative Impact on People? Schooltime could be a hard time for most teenagers. They need to be fed well for them to function throughout the day. In the cafeteria, the smell of pizza and burgers gets the eye of the stressed students. Sitting down looking at the tray of food all you could see is an unappetizing meal that barely meets the nutrition requirements. This is a terrible meal to feed students every day. The same food repeatedly could get boring fast. This is bringing a bad reputation to the school. This makes most students not eat at all during lunch. This has a negative impact on students because they are not well fed and start to lose their ability to work. Since the student will lack energy this puts the …show more content…
It has caused a lot of trouble like failing to meet the nutrition requirements, Changing the prices each year, and inefficient presentation of the food. These are negative in such a way that people just do not think that school lunches are the best way for the students of their school. These mistakes have caused many to opt out of the program and go back to the usual sack lunches that students bring to school. These snacks tend to be more efficient and better since this cannot put the parent or the school in financial jeopardy, it had variable choices than what a usual school lunch program would serve, and it costs less than the school lunch programs. Parents buy sack lunches over the school lunch program since they look much more appetizing than the usual lunches served in schools. Many parents try to fight the program and try to change it for the better but some just cannot beat the school system. The schools usually will not change the way they serve lunch. They will keep the same choices for lunch because they have a budget they must meet. The school will also charge those who are not eligible for a school lunch program which is usually those who are wealthier. In conclusion school lunches have a negative impact on the parents and
Having different food can affect a child health. There are milky ways, cake, cookies, pizza and lets just add some French fries in there and call that lunch. Don’t forget the drink sweet tea, pop and milk that one doesn’t choose to drink it. The students would go back to the class rooms after twenty minutes and be hungry at the end of the da. Garland said, “Instead, we allow school cafeterias to dispense the same junk food that kids could buy in any mall” (621). There has been so much junk food and soft drinks in schools that makes the student health unsafe and a distraction to their education. Garland mentioned that the students are filling up with fat, salt and sugar rather than filling up with fruit, whole grains and vegetables. Schools should be about healthiness, and well balanced diets. With having Students eat healthy can boost up their energy and ability to learn. With that being said when I was in high school it was nothing but junk food for three years. When Michele Obama changed the law on the school lunches my senior lunches have changed. It was nothing but healthy food like whole grain, no sweets, two scoops of fruits and vegetables. At Odessa they had a school store loaded with junk food that would be sold out by forth period. When the law came to the school there was nothing but baked chip and replaced with other baked nutrition food or we had nothing at all. The drink machines were changed out
Schools are spending too much money with this program that could be spent on other benefits for schools. Rather than using the money to get students new technology or property it 's wasted on a lunch program that students do not enjoy nor want to purchase. In the Article, “School Lunch Food is Not Fresh, Students Say” Journalist Audrey Levine interviews high school students about they feel about their school lunches. “It’s way too expensive now, but I’m still buying,” said senior Stephanie Huang. “And I don’t think more people are bringing lunch because
I don't think our school lunch is healthy because it has fat and too much sodium. Although it is good it is fattening it is the reason for much of the obesity in the U.S. Many kids have no other option to eat the unhealthy school lunches or they will be hungry.
Allowing healthier school lunches will decrease obesity in children because it will give them the proper nutrition to reduce the risk of health issues. Since obesity causes many health issues, maintaining a proper nutrition will reduce the risk of health issues. According to Star- Telegram, a daily newspaper that serves Fort Worth and areas of North Texas states, “[School lunches that have] a meal of pizza sticks, a banana, raisins and whole milk has given way to whole wheat spaghetti with meat sauce, a whole wheat roll green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi and low-fat milk … This change will help more than 2.4 million Texas students who receive a free or reduced- price school lunch to lead healthier, more active lives—in and out of the classroom”(Par. 2 and 4). School lunches are supposed to guarantee students a well balance meal, so they can have the energy to proceed with their classes throughout the day. Meanwhile, students who receive a f...
Unhealthy school lunches are a large contributing factor of the childhood obesity epidemic ("Unhealthy"). Unhealthy school lunches can lead to children becoming obese. Unhealthy lunches make unhealthy students which makes learning more difficult ("Unhealthy"). If a student is eating unhealthy food learning will become difficult or hard to understand. Unhealthy school lunches lead to poor food choices (Miura). If students get accustomed to eating unhealthy food thats all they will eat. Unhealthy school lunches lead to an unhealthy diet (Miura). School lunches can cause students to become more unhealthy than usual. Unhealthy lunches have a chance for a student to have dietary problems (Miura). If students develop a dietary problem due to school lunches they have an increased chance in becoming obese. One of the many problems in school lunches are that they do not have enough nutrients in
First, longer school lunches will cause classes to be shorter, resulting in less learning time. The students will not gain information quickly, and would have less time to ask teachers questions. Teachers would have to stay at school longer. Teachers already have to stay after school to grade assignments, and bring work home as well. They will have to plan lessons and grade. If they do this, they will be extremely tired and will not be attentive in class. If they are tired, they could fall asleep in class, and might not teach the best that they can. Students already having less learning time will get terrible teaching and information, and then they will not be smart. Non-intelligent students might not get into university or college, and would have to work without a degree, earning little money. Longer lunches will have an impact on teachers, and students' futures. The school district should not agree to have longer lunches, as it will be awful for students.
This is because of the eating habits that are already set in place. In the Article “Why Some Schools Are Saying ‘No Thanks’ to The School Lunch Program, it says that “Of course, the entire program is predicated on the fact that children will welcome — and eat — the healthier options. As TIME has reported, schools with the greatest success in making their cafeterias healthier started early and
The French fry ordeal along with the wasted food is counterproductive and hurts both the school and its students. Changing the school menu would also damage the school economically. Decreased sales in the cafeteria would result in decreased revenue for the school, which means there would be less money for it to spend on computers, books, and other resources vital to student academics. It would be a lose-lose situation; schools would lose money, student diets would plunge further, and the school as a whole would decrease in quality. Another issue linking "healthier" school lunches and economic problems would be the price of
Packing lunches isn’t always as easy as it sound. That is time consuming, and parents rely on the schools, the place they send their kids every day, to provide them with what they need. Parents are paying for these lunches along with the food they provide their children at home. If we changed the school lunch program, the majority of students would be happier and more satisfied, parents would be happier because their money is not being wasted on food that’s not getting eaten, and schools would not be losing money from expensive food that is getting wasted. Schools all over struggle with keeping students satisfied with their lunches.
I was not shocked at the results but after seeing the numbers I became aware of the issue at hand. Of the one hundred five responses 42.9% eat lunch at school everyday, while 17.1 % never eat school lunch, and the rest eat it four, three, or two times a week. The data suggest that most people rely on school lunches to fill them up. Some of the reasons that 17.1 % do not eat school lunch can be due to distaste of school lunch, or the less quantity. Of the 42.9% of people that get school lunch 34 said it tastes bad and 10 said it taste very bad.
Walking to the cafeteria is like walking, or running, in a marathon. If I could make a significant change to the structure or appearance to my school, I would add a cafeteria hallway for the middle school. First, students and staff members would not have to walk as far to eat lunch. Most staff and students have to walk down the stairs just to go get their lunches. Second, staff members and students would have much longer lunches.
Not Nutritious enough. School lunches should be more nutritious for the kids who eat them. Schools, and kids need better cafeteria food if they want to be shown how to live better lives in the future. This food isn't healthy for kids to eat it is just a bunch of random pieces parts meat, and bagged snacks it’s not healthy and not Nutritious for kids to eat once a week or even on a daily basis. That's why I think schools should go organic it would be healthier for the students, and there will be little to no bagged snacks available to kids.
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
We have so many things for our elementary students, but what about our junior highers? Our elementary students have many options to play, have there own area they want to sit at during lunch. Us junior highers don’t have as many choices because we come out later in the day for recess. Us junior highers and I would like more things to have to ourselves. This would make us have a better junior high. Options for a better Junior High recreation area are a Food Cart, Junior High playground, and a private lunch area.
During the years that I have been at Corcoran High School , I have noticed that the food the District has been serving us is not really good. The food at CHS and the rest of the district is bad and not just in taste, but also in nutrition and appearance. I have also noticed that the portions of foo d are also not satisfying to some students making some of the students go to class still hungry. The District needs to realize that the food that they are serving their students is not good and they need to do something to improve the food that the District feeds the students. The best way to go about this issue is to reevaluate the lunch plan.
