School Board Argument
My school board is deciding whether or whether not we should go an extra hour of school (Eight hours). I believe we should not do this, so I came up with three reasons why are they are: The cost, kids tend to get hungry, the behavior of children. Therefore, I’m wanting the school board member to reason with my explanations of why we should not go an extra hour of school.
First, the cost of going an extra hour is tremendous. The teachers will want a raise in their checks, because they will have to deal with kids for an extra hour rather than go home and spend time with their family. Also, the school will have to pay for electricity so the school will run out of money quick. I want our school to at least keep money so
Board of Education v. Pico is a Supreme Court case that was argued from March 2, 1892 to June 25, 1982 (Island Trees…). This case presents the issue of banning “vulgar and immoral” books from school libraries (Board of Education, Island).
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times. IF schools started later we wouldn't have all these tired and groggy students coming to school we would have students that are refreshed and ready to learn. We will have students that have good grades. We will have students who have better test scores. And we will have students with overall better performance.I what you right now pick up your phone and call your district and say we want later start
School days should be shorter fro students because they do not get enough sleep, have to much homework, and have barley have time to participate in extra curricular activities. A majority of students have sleep depravation due to school. If school would either start or end late students will have a greater opportunity to get more sleep. Teachers expect students to pay attention for 90 minutes while the night before they were up late finishing their homework for there classes. Some teachers do not realize that students have a life and work or have other obligations that take up a major portion of the students.
The first reason why school should start later is because teens need sleep. Most teens don’t or can’t go to sleep to get the needed amount of sleep, so they are more rushed in the morning and stressed throughout the day. According to the national sleep foundation, “59% of sixth graders and 87% of high schoolers aren’t getting the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep per night. If school started later, they could get the sleep they need and they wouldn’t be as stressed or tired.
... with Europe and Asia, the American Board of Education placed project schools around our nation to examine the effect of extended school hours. Extra hours, however, will not contribute to increasing test scores as well as other factors can. Instead, the government should provide our schools with more qualified teachers. Without professional teachers, extending the hours in class cannot possibly help US students.
One reason all year-round schools should not be made for example kids need to relax their brains. If the people that run year round school don’t cancel all year-round school kids won't be able to relax and spend time with their families. Another example Summer vacation gives kids time to relax their brains and prevents students and teachers from being exhausted. Students and
We have more family time, time to fish and hunt, and also more time to work. But what I do not understand is why do not tell us what is going on with the school. Maybe, some parents would even volunteer to help the school out. Has the school even thought about that? Probably not. I am here to try and persuade you to be on my side of the school. I believe this would be the best for the school. Also, The Board of Education does not know what day they are going to do. It is ether going to be Mondays or Fridays. I personally think, if they go to a four day school week, Mondays. A lot of the parents are saying yes, and then a lot of parents are saying no. Plus, our grade for the school is D-. That right there is telling you NOT to do it. This will cause more frustration for students and they will not want to do the homework. They will want to relax more than
The number one reason why school should start later because of teen’s health and safety. Nation's pediatricians, “say that middle and high school start class before 8:30 am threatens children's health, safety, and academic performance. Dr.Cora Breuner said, “we truly believe that our teenagers are getting six to seven hours of sleep a night and they need eight to ten hours”. Right
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
As school hour increases from 6 to 8 hours a day, the 2 extra hours should be well spent to reach its potential, otherwise, there will only be 2 more hours wasted. Trachtenberg proposes to give teachers more preparation time and let students engage in other activities (214), but which? Activities often need supervision from teachers. Those who supervise activities will need more time to care about student, and have little time left for preparation. If the extra time serves only teachers, it is not the school schedule being changed, but rather teachers’ working hours. The 8-hour school schedule is proposed to serve students, or teachers? Even if we distribute one hour for each, how can you ensure students will like to participate those activities? Maybe some simply want a good rest or family time. The lengthened schedule might cause these students further dislike being in school, creating an opposite effect. Seemingly, simply extending school hour does not suit students the best, let along prolonging the schedule to 11 months (214), it will only bring more
Although There is alot of evidence to back up why schools should start later, some people may not agree with it. Some may say it will intervean with parents’ work schedules. They might have to go to work 7:30 and kids will go to school at 8:30. Well there is actully advantages for this. It can teach the child responsibility like waking up on time and making their breakfast. When the parent leaves the child will have to wake themselves up and be responsible. This will also help in the long run of things because having responsibilties as a kid mean you are a resonsible adult. So There is a problem and a
For decades segregation and discrimination has lived through every generation. It has been used mainly towards minorities all over the world. Throughout my highschool years we learn about this touchy subject and all the people who died from it. Even though segregation and discrimination ended in 1964 through the help of Board vs. Education. This topic is still worth talking about.
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
I decided to attend a local school board meeting for this group analysis paper. If I could describe the meeting in would word it would be “machine”. This is because the board knew everything that was going on and was able to move quickly and efficiently. I have seen other meetings take place and non ran as smoothly as this school board meeting. I am glad that these people are in charge of my education.
