“The point is this is a health issue and we want them to be more productive,” said principal Sam Miceli. The people that decide what time school starts should talk to health professionals. The reason school should start later are grades and class work can increase and for teen’s health and safety. I want to convince you that school should start later in the day. The number one reason why school should start later because of teen’s health and safety. Nation's pediatricians, “say that middle and high school start class before 8:30 am threatens children's health, safety, and academic performance. Dr.Cora Breuner said, “we truly believe that our teenagers are getting six to seven hours of sleep a night and they need eight to ten hours”. Right
now only 15 percent of high schools start late than 8:30, and only 40 percent start before 8 am. The national sleep foundation poll found 59 percent of middle school kids and 87 percent of high school are getting less than the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours a sleep a night. Studies have found that lack of sleep in teenagers increase the risks of traffic accidents and makes them more vulnerable to depression and obesity. Teenagers could fall asleep on the wheel and lose control of the car because they have to be at school early in the morning. The late school start could put kids in a better mood like being happier for teachers if it is later in the day. Test grades are bad in the morning because the brain is not turn on and not ready to work. This is also for school grades is they don’t eat breakfast or not packing their lunch and not eating anything all day because it is really early to wake up and be on time for school. The second reason why school should start later is students grades and class work can increase. Some kids are not early morning people so they would sleep in and skip class because they are tired from staying up too late on doing homework or from sports events. High school students that work right after school until 10 don’t go to bed until 12 or 1 o'clock staying up late finishing homework and only get 5 hours of sleep and repeat it every day. People being late every day to school because they sleep in and constantly are tardy can cause their grades to be bad and getting Saturday school and making that look bad trying to find the school of their dreams. Teacher name Wayne Erdman Said “he was recognizing that students weren’t falling asleep in class as much and the attendance improved.” “Sleep researchers Mary Carskadon, who headed the poll tasks force, says sleep deprivation seriously affects their ability to learn.” Kids that don’t get enough sleep they don’t pay attention or force during class that may cause them to act out in class. Teacher and students feel that school should start early in the day.Students disagree with me because they think they can be done with school early if they go to school early in the morning. Students like being done by 2:15 by going to school at 7:15 am instead of later time so you have more time after school for homework, jobs, and extra activities. The school districts would have a hard time moving school times up and back because of buses and transportation. This also benefits the school by saving money: and helping parents schedules. Schools could save up to 30 percent on kids transporting at an earlier time. This would make it easier for parents that have a longer commute in the morning for them to not having to rush in the morning to be on time. The school day should start later in the day. This will help student’s healthy and safer and for students academics. We need to start listening to are health, professionals. I want to see the hours of school change for the kids safety.
Why Schools Should Continue Starting at Eight Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times. IF schools started later we wouldn't have all these tired and groggy students coming to school we would have students that are refreshed and ready to learn. We will have students that have good grades. We will have students who have better test scores. And we will have students with overall better performance.I what you right now pick up your phone and call your district and say we want later start
How many times has this happened to you; it’s six thirty on a Tuesday morning, your alarm has already gone off twice, your still laying in bed and your bus comes in twenty minutes. This is an everyday occurrence at my house. It is a proven statistic that the average high school student does not get enough sleep. While some experts like Dr. Lee Yanku say “It is not the schools starting time that is the problem as to why students don’t get enough sleep, it is because of facebook, myspace and cell phones” The truth behind it is that we can’t budget sports, homework and extracurricular activities into one day and still get nine hours of sleep. This is hurting student’s academic averages and needs to change. Changing the school time will help boost academic averages among students, and isn’t th...
The first reason why school should start later is because teens need sleep. Most teens don’t or can’t go to sleep to get the needed amount of sleep, so they are more rushed in the morning and stressed throughout the day. According to the national sleep foundation, “59% of sixth graders and 87% of high schoolers aren’t getting the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep per night. If school started later, they could get the sleep they need and they wouldn’t be as stressed or tired.
When you were 14-16 were you tired or sleeping in class? Odds are you were, because 60% of 14-16 year olds get less than 7 hours of sleep each night. Schools should start later than when it is now because of these 3 reasons. The 1st reason is that kids wouldn’t be so tired in their morning classes. They wouldn’t fall asleep in their morning classes. Kids would get enough sleep where they won't be so late to class. The last reason is that kids would feel better because they will get more hours of sleep than normal.
Starting school later also has a lot of health and academical benefits. Even if the school day starts 30 minutes later, It has proven to show great benefits for teenagers. In the pass Up For Debate: Should School Start Later It says “As a result, students were showing up to school alert and ready to learn and are focused and engaged in lessons.” Some people believe that starting earlier is better because a later start results in a later end to the day. But changing it to a later time will still give kids enough time to sleep and get their work
School Should Begin Later in the Day Many teenage high school students are tired during the school day. distracting them from their studies. That is just one of the many good reasons. that the start time of school should be later in the day. Some people may say that the brain is not fully functional until 9:30 is just a matter of opinion.
They can’t just make a kid wake up and learn when they want to sleep! One great reason why school should start later would be to give the kids time to wake up. According to the National Sleep Foundation, 60% of students complain that they are tired during the day, 15% of students fall asleep in class, and 59% of students get less sleep than they’re supposed to. A very important reason why schools should start later would be to give the kids more social skills.
Should Schools Start Later? Many high school students, including myself, do not get enough sleep. The idea of sleeping in sounds like the best thing ever, especially after those late night study sessions. Often times, teenagers are not able to sleep late because of school or work schedules. There are many side effects of sleep deprivation, but proven benefits of starting days later.
Are you tired of waking up so early in the morning? Daryn doesn't get tired until 11:00. He then has basketball practice at 6:15. That means he only gets about 6 hours of sleep because he has to wake up at 5:30. After basketball he's tired, then he has to go to school and most likely falls asleep in school because he's so weary from such a busy, miniscule morning. Schools should start later in the morning because it gives the child more sleep so they won't be tired, gives them a more productive morning and benefits their education.
This is so important because schools are recommended to start school as late as 9:30. But instead, they start it much earlier, about 8:00 in the morning. This research shows that kids are being sleep-deprived and need to have school start later in the day. The reason it is so important that school start times should be later is that humans need sleep.
School should start later because students would be able to receive more health benefits from sleep. Research has revealed that teens have different sleep patterns than children and adults and these sleep patterns are typically disrupted by early school start times. The same study showed bad sleep patterns have been helped and regulated by having
If schools started later, the attendance of students would possibly increase and students would be more accurately on time. It would also help students stop sleeping in class. This would also help reduce the risk of car accidents and students falling asleep on the way to school. School starts at 7:50 and that is way too early for students to function. “Often, due to that delayed oircadian rhythm and overall lack of sleep, students simply aren’t able to learn well early in
Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. The National Sleep Foundation reported that most teens do not retain enough shuteye, one study found that only 15% reported sleeping eight 1/2 hours on school nights. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock. If the school day started later attendance would improve, students will be more prepared, and student's attitudes and grades may improve.
Amelia pounds on the alarm clock at dawn in exhaustion. She falls right back asleep since she has hit the SNOOZE button yet again. She then hears the footsteps of her parents walking the hallway that leads to her room. Suddenly a loud scream ringing in her ears signaling for her to wake up once again. She knows that the bus will be here soon to pick her up for school. So, she drags her half-awake body out from underneath her sheets, staggers toward the bathroom, and hits the wall both literally and figuratively. This is a typical morning for not only Amelia but most adolescents as they battle the early morning start times of schools. Therefore, teenagers need school to start at a later time. Schools must start later for teenagers because of health issues, educational reasons, and increase injuries/ deaths.
