Scene Analysis of Raiders of the Lost Ark Directed by Steven Spielberg One of the most important scenes in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" directed by Steven Spielberg is 'Scene 13, Meeting with Belloq'. This scene takes place when Jones is mourning for Marion Ravenwood who he believes is dead. Belloq invites Jones to go inside and talk with him. This scene is important because it shows an attitude of Belloq towards Jones that is not shown through the Rest of the film. It gives the viewer a sense that Belloq and Jones are very similar, In skill level in skill level in archaeology and that it is both their religion/life. It is not the act, which is good or evil, but the intentions of the person that does the act that determines whether the act is perceived as good or evil. This is shown in the meeting with Belloq scene, because Belloq places himself on the darker side saying. "I am a shadowy reflection of you" in saying, this Belloq also means his intentions are darker. Belloq and Jones both carry out the same actions, taking archaeological treasures from their place of origin, but Jones intentions are self-less as he taking these treasures for the college and museum on the other hand Belloq's intentions are much blacker because his intentions are for his own personal gain. This scene takes place in a crowded café in Cairo, Egypt. Jones is attempting to drown his sorrow in alcohol because he is sad because he thinks that Marion has been killed when the truck that she was in exploded. Belloq invites Jones to inside and talk with him. As conversation aggresses because Jones will not accept that he is similar to Belloq, Jones takes out his gun but just then everyone in the café reveals that they have weapons as well and that this was a trap orchestrated by Belloq. Then many children run in and surround Jones walking him outside to safety. "It will take more than children to save you next time" says Belloq.
Is an act still a moral one if you do it for selfish reasons, such as feeling good about yourself or being thought of as a good person? “Few of us are murderers or thieves, but we have all been liars.” (Harris). I think feeling good about yourself and wanting to be thought of as a good person is a good thing. It means you want to think positively about yourself and for others to do the same.
Claudia Card sees evil as “foreseeable intolerable harms produced by culpable wrong doing”, thus she builds her theory and views around this definition (Card, pg.3). She distinguishes wrongdoing and evil acts by the consequences and results of those actions, and to what extent they harmed the victim. She sees evils as actions that ruin people’s lives that achieve significant harm that causes permanent or difficult to recover from damage (Card, pg.3). However, she does make a point of differentiating evildoers from evil people, as they do not always have the purposeful intention to do the evil that they cause (Card, pg.4).
The lines that define good and evil are not written in black and white; these lines tend to blur allowing good and evil to intermingle with each another in a single human being.
...ld to do. Slaughtering thousands of Armenians, putting people’s heads on a stick and walking around with it with joy is definitely evil. This proves that human nature is evil. Only an evil person would do disgusting things to mothers, fathers, and innocent people. Committing a genocide is by fact part of human nature because humans were born with hatred. For example, a baby boy is playing with his toys when suddenly another child just comes and grabs the toys. The baby boy will react to this and grab his toys back and maybe even hit the other child for taking his possession. Hsun Tzu would say that this is an act of being evil in human nature. Our sudden instincts are to protect what we have. This connects to the Genocide, the Turks thought they had to kill the Armenians to get some piece of land. The land meant more to them than killing 1.5 million innocent people.
What drives people to act in an improper way, is not evil, but rather a lack of empathy hardwired into their brain. When a
When people realize that good and evil are just points of view that are placed on other people and actions, it is possible to transcend these superficial roles. Since it is people who create the meaning of evil, it cannot be said that people are evil, or are born evil, because not only is that a perspective that is assumed onto others, which will change with different cultures, societies, and eras, but the very same acts may appear to be both good and evil, depending on the perspective in which the acts are seen. Ultimately, it is the individual’s responsibility to decide for himself the effects of his actions on himself and others.
Good and evil can be summed up as a difference between rational and irrational thoughts, with the former being related to “good” and the ladder to “evil”. This is a view shared by Immanuel Kant and his Categorical Imperative. In the movie Schindler’s List, we are presented with two individuals, Oskar Schindler, who by the end of the movie displays characteristics of a man following rational thoughts, doing acts that he would want to become universal maxims. On the other end of the spectrum, we have Amon Goeth. Goeth follows his irrational thoughts, using the Jewish people as a means for his own ends.
...ly or mentally, a conscious effort to injure others that is no obvious benefit to the human race is not good. I believe that people try to do good most of the time. For example, the person had a motorcycle accident. He hated by a car on the local road and stocked under the car. The car was flamed. This news is from the yesterday of FOX25. When I saw many people stopped and together to get the car off the person and being without thinking about the flames, I am so grateful. The man was saved and no life injury and the story have a good ending. Accordingly, people are innately good. I think I am actually a good person. I like to open doors, push in chairs, listen to people, and help little kids. No meter outside the world how changed it doesn’t influence my good personality at all. I agree Carl Rogers’s theory people should be capable of becoming conscious good.
People aim to act based on what is good to them, but what seems good to them is something
The film The Green Mile was originally written by Stephen King and later directed by Frank Darabont. It is based on the guards and inmates of a penitentiary’s Death Row during the great depression. There is a certain monotony that comes with working on Death Row and Paul Edgecomb, played by Tom Hanks, has become numb to the fact that he is paid to take lives; that is until John Coffey gets sentenced to death and is sent to Paul’s “green mile”. John Coffey is a very large black man that was accused of rape and murder of two little girls, and in the 1930’s having charges like that brought upon you was grounds for the death penalty, especially for a black man in the south.
No meaningful discussion of good or evil in Buddhism can be undertaken without a summary understanding of karma. Buddhist philosophy teaches karma as a “creation” based on intentional acts of body, speech and mind, and that man is affected by the karma he creates. “When we plant a seed – an act, a statement, or a thought – it will eventually produce a fruit, which will ripen and fall to the ground and perpetuate more of the same.” (Makransky 334) This is to say that the “fruit” (creation of karma) results from care of the tree or as commonly mentioned in Buddhism; what a man does is what happens to him.

Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, was a very complex and interesting sci-fi movie. This movie in particular has a lot of factors playing into the movie. Everyone is able to find their favorite part about the movie, and various people can watch this movie and connect with it. This movie came out in 2014, and shocked millions of people by its intense ending. Interstellar was awarded for best visual effects, and then nominated for many other things including, best original score, best sound mixing, and best sound effects which played a huge role in making the movie. The image and sound complement each other, but I thought that image dominated over sound because there were so many silent moments throughout the movie. I thought the plot
Drawing a distinct line between right and wrong, or good and bad, is not always an easy task. Most people would agree that lying, murdering, and stealing are all very wrong indeed. Coincidently though, most people often would say they either have done/or would do one of the following things: tell a white lie to spare someone’s feeling, kill someone out of self-defense, or use someone else’s idea without giving them credit. Since there are exceptions to these “bad” actions, does that truly make them bad, or is it all a matter of perspective? From what I have experienced, the action isn’t quite as important as the intentions behind that action. In the motion picture Mumford, a man poses as a psychologist, and tries to solve his patient 's’ problems
