Imagine a place where it’s the idyllic getaway from the daily life. A trip to that place is the classic idea of a vacation for families, couples and singles. A place where you can forget about your troubles and simply enjoy life. A place that would feel like you are outside your country, due to its beautiful architecture design. A place that you can call it paradise. My favorite place to visit is Santa Barbara because of its beach, the Spanish architecture and the people. First, one of the most beautiful beaches on the west coast is found in Santa Barbara. The beach is most visited during the summer. Tourists would take over the beach and spend most of their vacation on the beach sleeping to the sound of the waves crashing in, seagulls …show more content…
This style goes back to the early Spanish colonization of North and South Americas. The houses and the building are unique, well-constructed with lots of character and charm. The houses have terracotta roof tiles, which is the red clay rooftops that give the homes its warm, earthy and rustic look. The walls are white painted with stucco exterior that gives the aged-looking old world surface. Because of the mild climate, Courtyards and patios are built to encouraged outdoor living. The patios often had fireplaces which allowed you to linger outside late into the night. Plus, arcades which are a series of arches supported by columns. Although it is an old architectural feature, the arcades sheltered walkways in town squares. Because the people always care about their health and nutrition, most of the restaurant in Santa Barbara provide a rich and a verity of healthy food. Plus, the people have the utmost respect for nature and are extremely cognized of the effect urban development has on the land, water and air; as a result, Santa Barbara is not just another sprawling, shapeless or soulless mass-planned development. Furthermore, because it’s such a tight-knit community, Santa Barbara is an easy place to make friends. The people are easy to talk to because they listen more than they
The resort is a magnificent place for relaxation- with many beaches, ruins, restaurants, tourist attractions, entertainment venues, and natural wonders.
“Sometimes it does not seem Santa Barbara anymore—the new houses and strange people and hotels. Some of us have little to do now, and our own town is no longer beautiful or gay. Even our houses are being pulled down, as you cans see, and in a few years, I think, there will be no Spanish town.” ( Chicanos in a Changing Society pg. 117) Albert Camarillo

Placerville California is located near Sacramento. This gold rush town was named after deposits of placer gold that was found in the river beds in the 1840’s. Being so close to where gold was first discovered in 1849 many people came flocking to this city in hopes of finding their fortune. It is located only 10 miles from the city that gold was first found in. The placer gold deposits the town got its name from were found in the river between Spanish Ravine and the town plaza. With all the miners rushing to the area Placerville soon became a much needed supply hub during the gold rush.

This paper will discuss the many unique aspects of Oakland, California. Divided into five major parts, Oakland is a very diverse city. The five major parts include: Downtown Oakland which is located in the heart of the city, East Oakland which consists of the majority of the city, West Oakland, North Oakland, and the Oakland hills where the terrain is quite different from other parts of the city. While many may perceive the population to mainly consist of African Americans and Whites, there is a significant growing population of Latinos, and Asians. The topics covered in this paper will shed light on the city of Oakland itself, and discuss the unique city that it is. I will also give my personal experience and perception on the city, after living there for 16 years of my life.
By the second half of the nineteenth century, many people rushed to California including Anglo. It can be said that California was entering an era of “Anglo hegemony”. sometimes in each persons life there is a turning point, a point in time when a revelation is reaveled to you. If you cannot see this revelation sometimes your vision may be clouded over by a voice that may or may not be your own. In the novel, many people are telling san jose to stop listening tom his own voice and folow them. But he knows that is wrong. At Polemarchus' house, Socrates discusses old age with Cephalus, Polemarchus' aging father. Cephalus says that old age is really not as bad as people say it is; if you're a moderate and contented person, your virtue makes old age pleasant. Socrates notes that some would say that it is Cephalus' wealth that makes old age bearable for him. Cephalus says that this is not true, wealth can help someone be virtuous, but it isn't the deciding factor. Cephalus defines just behavior as paying one's debts and speaking truthfully, and notes that wealth does help in these things.
Los Angeles was the first product off the assembly line of American urban planning. Turned on in the late 19th century, the city-making machine was fueled by an immense immigration of people who sought to create a new type of city out of the previously quaint pueblo. They also strove to craft the first major city developed primarily by Americans and outside of European archetypes. As a result, Los Angles is not only incredibly diverse, but also nearly impossible to define. Since it is a product of the American machine, understanding the community of Los Angeles becomes vital to understanding the United States. But to fully comprehend the present Los Angeles, one must look at the process that created it. Specifically, Los Angeles was created by upper class Anglo citizens of the 20th century, who strove to materialize their imagined reality of a rural city by establishing a process where affluent citizens fled to the suburbs and left the lower class residents their more urban rundown leftovers. This created world then became the setting for resistance from various groups, such as minorities and youth, who began to undermine the Anglo infrastructure through social interaction.
Santa Paula, California located in Ventura County is a community of hardworking people and I can say that everyone in the community knows an immigrant or field worker. Every morning my community wakes up before down to go work, at times until sunset, to give their family’s food and a better life. On any giving day driving through the hill, back roads you are able to appreciate the clear view of the valley covered with orchards and to the west, the Pacific Ocean. The kind of perfect combination to raise a family. Santa Paula is labeled as a “ghetto placed” by other communities but, to its residents; it’s just perfect.
When you associate anything with New York City it is usually the extraordinary buildings that pierce the sky or the congested sidewalks with people desperate to shop in the famous stores in which celebrities dwell. Even with my short visit there I found myself lost within the Big Apple. The voices of the never-ending attractions call out and envelop you in their awe. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is like a young child on a shopping spree in a candy store. Although your feet swelter from the continuous walking, you find yourself pressing on with the yearning to discover the 'New York Experience'.
