Response to Jian Ghomeshi’s Letter to His Friends and Supporters
Jian Ghomeshi is a is a journalist who worked for the CBC, which is funded by public’s taxes, who has recently gotten fired from his job there because he is guilty of sexual abusing and harassing several women. Yes, the CBC has come to the correct decision by terminating him of his post, and there are many reasons why.
To begin with, he states in his letter he posted on Facebook that aggressive sex he had was “consensual”, and that so it could not count as abuse or rape. Though, even if that is true, it’s still illegal to hit someone to the point they are injured extreme, even if they are begging for it. If he was “the dominate” in the acts of BDSM, he should be taking the responsibility of making sure his partner is safe and doesn’t get hurt, which is one of the basic rules on BDSM. Also, it seems a little suspicious he compared his relationship to the novel “50 shades of Grey”, because in the book, the character Christen Grey breaks one of the rules of consent in BDSM dealing with the “safe word”. Also he states that he has proof through text messages in his letter, but that only proofs that the person agreed to those things before it happened and not during the actions, and consent is supposed

If half the population identifies as female, why would those women want to be paying taxes to someone is an extreme misogynist? When someone who hits women, and get actually gets a pleasure from it as well is in fact a misogynist. It doesn’t matter how much they can say how they support gender equality and feminism, their actions can say otherwise. I myself as a female would not want to be paying taxes for someone who’s a raging misogynist, and I am sure I am not the only female identifying person who agrees upon this, and I’m sure there are people of other genders who may also agree upon this as
In her article, “Tax on Men,” Ann Thorpe says that a premium should be added to every tax return for every man in Canada. Men should pay a lot more of a share for these services since they are the ones that use them most. The government should follow the example of car insurance companies and tax men at a higher rate. Ann Thorpe’s position is reasonable and should be supported. Three reason why a having a premium added to every tax return for men is a good idea include the idea that men are more reckless than women, men use more of the public services that cost money to maintain and if men know they will be taxed more unless the statistics show that they are no longer reckless, they will begin to change their behaviour.
“On average according to [Larimer], women in California pay about $7 per month for 40 years of tampons and sanitary napkins” (Larimer 1). Over the years, paying for these products add up. Jordan Gass-Poore, author of “Citing Gender Bias, State Lawmakers Move to Eliminate ‘Tampon Tax,” argues that the tampon tax exist because of gender bias lawmakers. One of the reasons why these products are taxed is because they aren’t intended to be used internally or externally, or for diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or to prevent illness or diseases (Gass-Poore 1). This tax is making periods sound like an illness that all women have instead of a natural cycle that happens to most women. According to Mary Bowerman, author of “The ‘Tampon Tax’ and what it Means for You,” this tax on feminine products generates about $20 million a year. Eliminating this tax would save about $10 millions a year (Bowerman 1). Without the tax or a lowered tax, buyers of these products could be saving so much money. Because the tax is too high, many states are already eliminating the tax on these
In the documentary Crime After Crime, Deborah Peagler suffered abuse from her intimate partner through her life. The abuse started in High School. When her mother introduced her to Oliver Wilson, his charming personality fooled everyone. Oliver forced her into prostitution to make money for him. When she refused, he beat her until she promised to sell herself. The beating gradationally evolved to bull whipping. In addition, all of this occurred during her junior and senior year in high school. Oliver felt it was his right to have ultimate control over Deborah, this fact is generally accepted in the society (Belknap 247). The male dominance, male authority over women is something taught to young children. It is sought to be the place of women to wait for the husband by the door when he comes home. The male masculinity fact kicked in and it drove him to force his dominance over Deborah into physical abuse. When Deborah refused to do his bidding, he felt it was necessary for him to show her who is in control by beating her. This is the message sent to young boys of past generations and a bit less for the current one through media and entertainment.
Under the Equal Pay Act of 1863, the gender wage gap supposedly no longer exists, but the facts are that “as of 2012 women in the U.S. earn 77 cents to a man's dollar” (ProQuest Staff). Men try to justify this unjust statistic by saying that “wage gap isn't necessarily the result of discrimination” (ProQuest Staff). Although, there is no logical reasoning behind it. When women are actually given the same jobs as men they may be paid the same but typically, they are not able to reach the higher positions in the company that men do. Even with their 77 cents to a man’s dollar, “women still tend to bear a larger responsibility for child care and other household matters within families” (Mazorelle). Women are not given the opportunity to earn as much as men and then they still have to take on a majority of the responsib...
He wanted to reminisce in the videos as it would bring him sexual arousal. This article highlights how women are subjected to sexual violence and abuse from men, many theories have had further development to attempt to create reasoning behind these types of behaviours.
The major way through which sexism and heterosexism shape social welfare policy is by generating issues that need to be protected or helping in identification of needs to be met. These issues and needs in turn become the backbone through which social policy are formulated in order to enhance the well-being of every individual and group in the society for better functioning of societal members.
There are nearly as many women as there are men working, yet, as it was discovered in 2011, on average, a woman will only earn seventy-seven cents for every dollar that a man earns. Women owned businesses make up for over a quarter of all national businesses and earn more than one point two trillion dollars (“Assessing the Past, Taking Stock of the Future” 6). Since many women are now becoming are the primary sources of income in the household, making less that a man does not only negatively affect families, but also the overall economy suffers as well. These women, among many others, are the ones who end up purchasing the supplies that go toward improving communities and stimulating the economy. There is no reason that the general public should stand for this. Women should be treated equally to men in today’s American society based on their biological compositions, psychological profiles and contributions to history.
In all societies around the world, women are treated as if they are a minority group, just like any racial or ethnic group that is out of the norm. The justification for considering women as a minority group and the existence of sexism becomes clear through the examination of social indicators, including education, employment, and income.
Sexual abuse is “The use of psychological abuse tactics to keep an intimate partner in a submissive position of power. Strategies include sexual degradation, non-contact unwanted sexual experience (e.g., being forced to watch pornography), and reproductive and sexual control,” (Bagwell-Gray, Messing, & Baldwin-White, 2015, p. 323). It is low in force, because non-physical control tactics are used, and it is low in invasiveness because no sexual penetration is involved. Sexual abuse is different than sexual coercion in that the perpetrator is not coercing sex but is rather controlling sex-related decision making. Some examples of sexually controlling acts are refusing to wear condoms, having sex outside the primary relationship, and birth control sabotage (Campbell & Soeken,
It is almost a requirement for people in society to conform to sexism. Sometimes it is the legal system or a higher power that play a huge role. This is seen earlier with Levi, but also when Fausto-Sterling discusses how the Jewish books of law the restrictions of each gender on page 23. "The Tosefta expressly forbids hermaphrodites to inherit their fathers ' estates (like daughters)...or to shave (like men). When hermaphrodites menstruate they must be isolated from men (like women)". This not only demonstrates the unfairness of herms, but even with the two "normal"
Another large sexist factor in the workforce, is that women get paid less than men do for the same exact job. “Women get paid 77 cents on the dollar for every dollar a man makes, according to a recent study from the Institute for Women's Policy Research. That's a difference of more than $10,000 per year on average,”(Berman). Why is this? Some people believe that it is because women gravitate towards low...
...etting out of the relationship, she loves him more for it. When talking about him she says: "...even if he had beaten me on every bone, he could soon win my love again" (205). Feminists, who are against battery and rape, would be disgusted at the Wife of Bath's comments.
"Women should stay at home taking care of children." "Women should never disrespect a man." "Women who dress in skimpy outfits are asking to be harassed and cat called." These previous statements demonstrate misogyny. Misogyny is the hatred of women who do not conform to certain beliefs or practices on how woman should behave. These beliefs are centered on the idea that women are inferior to men. Now, not all misogynists hate all women. Misogyny is the hatred of specific women who do not conform to misogynist beliefs. For example, a misogynist can have the upmost respect for housewives, while one the other hand hating women who have a desire to better their career rather than have a family. Misogyny can have detrimental effects on anyone acting
Last I checked, rape was an act of violence; I seriously doubt that any man is going to point a gun to a woman’s head and say “Let me perform cunnilingus on you!” Of course, I would understand if Mrs. Russell would have said violent pornography. Violent pornography usually revolves around men overpowering women, or women overpowering men, or women overpowering women for that matter. Usually violent pornography has a lot of whips and chains, and a lot of nipple tortures and other clamps that are attached to any other orifices.
Sexual desire and interactions are an essential and apparent part of the human experience. This experience can create a wonderful and necessary bond between sexual partners to produce intimacy, trust and satisfaction both physically and emotionally. Beyond the scope of receiving pleasure and building relationships that are vital to our development, sex is undoubtedly a crucial element to our survival through reproduction. Unfortunately, when a sexual experience is involved with violence against one partner, it can lead to devastating results to the relationship, the victims and their close ones. One line definition: One of the most prevalent crimes of sex which is also hugely covert is marital rape in which a partner of an intimate relationship does not consent to the act of sex with their significant other.
