Relationship Dialectics “are opposing and continuous tensions that are normal in all close relationships.” (Woods). There are three particular to relationship dialectic: autonomy/connection, novelty/predictability, and openness/closedness. Autonomy/Connection: means to want to be close to others, but also want some space of your own. Sometime this can be conflicting and difficult to manage. The example of this from my life is. I love my children and mate dearly, but I cherish my alone time more. We have a great time together, however I encourage them to do things that do not involve me. Sometime I feel guilty for not wanting to do more with them as family/couple time is a precious commodity. Novelty/Predictability: means to have a strict regiment,
