Motivation refers to the forces either within or external to a person that arouse enthusiasm and persistence to pursue a certain course of action. Employee motivation affects productivity, and part of a manager’s job is to channel motivation toward accomplishment of organisational goals. The study of motivation helps understand what prompts people to initiate action, what influences their choice of action, and why they persist in that action over time. (Daft, Richard L 2010). Motivation represents those psychological processes that cause the arousal, direction, and persistence of voluntary activities that are goal oriented. Mitchell (1982) cited in Islam.R. & Zaki,Hj.I.A (2008). Every people have needs. Needs are the physical or psychological requirements that must be met to ensure survival and wellbeing. (Mc Williams & Williams 2010). There are three type of approaches which is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Alderfer’s ERG theory and McClelland’s Learned Needs Theory. Hence, the purpose of this essay is to discuss what motivation and explain reinforcement theory of motivation in detail and also personal example.

I am interested in becoming a RCCL (Residential Child Care Licensing Inspector) because I believe it's imperative to protect the children who have previously been in dangerous situations. The children that RCCLs help are already quite fragile and most likely have some mental and emotional scars. This sector of the child population need to be cared for and kept especially safe. In working and dealing with emotional and mentally scarred children can be quite difficult due to their lack of trust, self-esteem, and possible anger caused by the trauma and/or removal from home. While gaining those children’s trust would be an equally difficult endeavor, I believe the aid provided by RCCLs is life altering making the job one of the most rewarding positions
The reinforcement theory was of interest for a consideration as a tool in my current work environment and possibly be utilized as intervention of controlling the behaviors of employees. Since, I have observed the negative behavior of employees displayed due to varies unjust reasons that demotivate them to perform at an optimal level. Therefore, I believe implementing positive reinforcement to rebuild trust and to motivate employees by acknowledging a job well done, reward programs, and providing challenging task would encourage them and give them something to strive for to be higher achievers.
